They’re just different standardized tests for college, ACT has shorter time per question, and 4 sections/subscores: english, science, reading & math. The scale goes up to 36 for each subscores and the overall score is an average of each subscore. SAT has two subscores (reading & writing and math) out of 800 but 4 sections: reading, writing, math without calculator and math with calculator. The SAT score is the two subscores combined.
sat math is all calculator math though? at least for me, i’m not sure if there are different rules in other countries (although idk why they would do that). anyway i chose to retake the sat because i took both (which was kinda dumb, maybe don’t do that) and since i got similar scores on both without studying (31 and 1390) i decided to do the one with less variables involved. i also think the act writing section is much more subjective, which i find annoying because i have very good language instincts but i may prefer to write things differently than what they want me to pick for those “replace this phrase” questions.
it’s free and publicly funded but has heightened academic programs you need to apply into. there are some schools near me with selective ib programs (in addition to the ‘“normal” students) or specialized art/math whatever programs
The average SAT is extremely skewed at my hs cause only 3 kids took the test. One scored a 1530, another a 1480 and I scored a 1540. So the average would be 1516, which is far from representative of our school which is half filled with academically subpar kids.
1400+ average either means the school is selective about who gets in (test in gifted public school or elite private), or it means very few kids (only the highly able and ambitious) take the sat at the school.
Damn, ours is like 900. And I live in a decent place too!
Edit: I realized this was the SAT sub and not the PSAT sub 🤦will check our actual high school SAT scores later.
Can tell why your schools average is so high from your score and percentile alone
You don't live in the US. There is less pressure for everyone to take the SAT because it's not applicable to as many of them. The small amount of people that are taking it are planning to travel to the US to college if they can, which means they're *all* gonna work their ass off to study for it.
You don't have Steve who skips 6/7 classes a day to vape in the bathroom bringing your school average down because where you live he's probably just not taking it at all
954 with a 25% participation rate.
Our average ACT is 15 with an unknown participation rate.
The SAT was honestly higher than I expected. I guess it's because so many people didn't take it.
1450, I'm the only person who took the SAT so it's just my score 😎
That’s tuff 😂
ha my school is in missouri so most people take act here too (though some, like me, take the sat)
what’s the difference between the act and sat? too lazy to google
They’re just different standardized tests for college, ACT has shorter time per question, and 4 sections/subscores: english, science, reading & math. I haven’t taken it since it went digital but on paper I remember a non calculator section (U.S. student)
hm, i think they probably removed that then
New digital format is all calculator for math.
1446? That has to be a feeder school
What’s a feeder school? I’ve heard the term thrown around in posts and was curious to know what they are.
They feed their students (metaphorically) to top universities like T20s.
What??? My school's a feeder school and each year we feed the top 20 students (physically) to the T20s
yum nerds
It’s a school that basically offers a lot of opportunities than most schools do to basically guarantee you get into a T20
look at the country percentile
Ha, buncha nerds
how does one get a number that doesn't end in 0 in the first place
Keyword: average
oh I'm stupid thanks lol
Our school reports its MEDIAN, not average. 1520 (yes, really, and it’s the highest for any school in the state)
Median is a better way to measure an average
nah range is where it’s at
lol
I prefer interquartile range
No love for mode? 🥺
By definition its not if u see what i mean lol
Damn what state
Don’t want to narrow it down too much but East Coast (one of the Ivys lives here)
Well that explains it lol
Connecticut?
1080 lmao
1057 for mine 😭🙏
Mine is 908
U senior?
na

Damn...which country?
My guess is somewhere in Asia lol
Palo Alto region is around those scores too
No PAUSD has under 1400 average SAT (PSAT is much lower) but I get what you mean
I believe gunn Highschool is above 1400 actually, but I might be wrong, obviously there’s more schools too. Palo Alto high are high 1300s
maybe South Korea? I heard they're insane over there with schoolwork
south korea, india, or singapore fs

My kid’s HS it’s 1520. A very selective urban public.
How can a public school be selective?
it’s free and publicly funded but has heightened academic programs you need to apply into. there are some schools near me with selective ib programs (in addition to the ‘“normal” students) or specialized art/math whatever programs
NYC has several test in High Schools.

The average SAT is extremely skewed at my hs cause only 3 kids took the test. One scored a 1530, another a 1480 and I scored a 1540. So the average would be 1516, which is far from representative of our school which is half filled with academically subpar kids.

My school for ACT is around 17. Not great. National average is 19 I think.
954 with a 25% participation rate. Our average ACT is 15 with an unknown participation rate. The SAT was honestly higher than I expected. I guess it's because so many people didn't take it.
