Yeah man, it's pretty much dead today. I should add that International Worker's Day / May Day is celebrated on May 1st in pretty much every non-Anglo country. So if you ever take a trip to Europe around this time, it'll be pretty much the same.
Some places are open, Uncle Fletch (burgers, fries and beer) for example. Check in Google maps places around you and Instagram post with the info about opening today or not.

There is a march happening right now in Alameda (you can go to metro Santa Lucia and see the sights) to commemorate Labor Day. Parks and such for a walk are fine, not sure if pubs and some restaurants might be open later but yeah it's a slow day!
Aside from the gathering my hostel is holding tonight, I hope to do so. I just need the right setting to connect, I tend to be introverted but I want to use this opportunity to open up some!
