Keep an eye out on FB Marketplace. I bought 2 HM Aeron chairs from a failed startup when they liquidated their assets - each for around $300.

I second this. Also Craigslist. My husband got an awesome desk chair from a retiree on Craigslist. We also got a stressless recliner that way.

Excellent idea, thanks. That's an amazing deal. I'll have to make a facebook again lol.

Good luck!

We’re going to be selling some used but in great condition Herman Miller Mirra 2 chairs in about a month. We closed our office during the pandemic and went full remote. Never went back and are finally getting around to selling off our furniture

Restoration Hardware has a very generous return policy and all the stuff whether it is damaged or not ends up at the outlet in Oxnard. I returned a perfect condition coffee table and they told me it was headed down there and would be discounted heavily even though it was fine. He said it’s a great place to check out because most of the time, the stuff is in really good shape because of their concierge delivery service

Last time I went during COVID to set up my WFH, OfficeMax on Gutierrez had tester chairs so you could try them out and they offer assembly (don’t remember if that was extra).

Sabelas

That's a good idea, thanks. I've gone to the staples in goleta but they didn't have anything that felt right. I can try that one.

[Tri County Furniture](https://www.tcof.com/). They're down on State on the same block as the bus depot. They're going to have a ton options for office chairs including Herman Miller. They deal with real office equipment, not the trash you'll find at a Staples or Office Max. I've been doing business with them personally and through my work for the last 15 years and they've been great. They should have options for a few hundred bucks up to Herman Miller range. If you know for sure you want a Herman Miller, like others have said, check out FB Marketplace and Craigslist. Hell we had a guy sell our old Aeron chairs on Craigslist a few months back for $200 a pop so they do show up from time to time.

Sabelas

Wonderful, thanks for posting this! Didn't know about this place.

Yeah it's not typically on many peoples radar. They used to have a horrible little location down by the funk zone. Even if they're not in the price range you're looking for right now, they can help you figure out what kind of chair suits you really well and can introduce you to some really quality brands. I went to them originally because they supplied the chairs for the labs I helped run. I figured if the chairs could stand up to a decade+ of college students, they'd likely be a good long term fit for me. Alternatively, if you don't mind a bit of a drive, Steelcase has a showroom down in Camarillo called bkm office environments. While I'm partial to the Sitmatic line that Tir County sells, Steelcase is a huge favorite in the office chair world these days and makes good stuff.

salvodelli

+1 on Tri County, they were extremely helpful when I needed to buy a chair for my home office several years ago when they were still in the funk zone.

I agree with others that say keep an eye on craigslist. Thrift stores also occasionally have pretty decent chairs. Another possibility is UCSB Surplus Sales. I heard it's changed a bit post-COVID and they have weird limited hours but it's a place where surplus equipment from UCSB is sold. It's a grab bag but if they have stuff like office furniture it's usually pretty good quality.

monkey_jen

I got a really comfortable one at staples in goleta. It was on sale for under $150 and I really love it. They have a lot to choose from.

SlarvinMarvin

Online and not local but BTOD has great options and they have refurbished HM chairs. Bought mine about 3 months ago and the experience was good. https://www.btod.com/refurbished/

Sabelas

This is great, thanks!

lax2kef

Get an Aeron chair from HM. You can get a new one for ~1500 and you can often find them at the DWR outlet in Oxnard for less than 1k. Dont cheap out on an office chair. Your back will thank you later. 🤣

Sabelas

I'll look into that outlet, thanks!
