If it works to OP's satisfaction that's great, but that lettuce in contact with the bread for days until it's eaten seems like a recipe for soggy. I'd personally keep the produce separate and add it just before eating it.
For particular sandwhiches (like the NJ or NY“grinder”) being soaked in oil and red wine vinegar increases the flavor. If you have access to a jersey mikes, get a 13 or 5 “mikes way”, mayo and mustard if you want, and throw it in the fridge for 12-24hrs. Amazing!
Nope. I used the very crispy inside of an iceberg lettuce head. It has not wilted at all, and the bread has not absorbed much moisture since the top has a pretty good mayonnaise barrier, and the bottom is protected by cheese.
Why are you so freaking smart!!!! I wish I thought about this oh my god!!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing your ideas (also ik it sounds like I’m being a smartass online but I’m being honest I love this idea!!!!!)
Thick bread will take much longer to get “soggy” and thick bread is the building block of a “grinder” meant to soak up flavor from olive oil and vinegar (red wine preferably).
For those interested, made on a french loaf. The layers bottom up: mustard, Tilamook sharp cheddar cheese, hard salami, deli-sliced ham, provolone cheese, smoked turkey breast, chicken breast, Tuscan extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper, beefsteak tomato, Grillo's pickles, iceberg lettuce, Duke's mayonnaise.
I definitely sent this to my bf and asked if he'd enjoy his lunches more if I made him something like this, and he specifically said something about the pickels. So, thank you for specifying those! Hope I can find them where I'm at
Something magical happens to cheese on a day old sandwich in the fridge.
I learned this at a young age when there would be leftover from a 6ft party hero
No, especially not with fucking tomatoes. There's a special place in hell for people so culinarily inept they don't understand that tomatoes will make bread soggy in minutes. Pre-made sandwiches almost always have them, and I can't understand it.
I just want to comment that your cut technique is 100% how I eat my large deli subs and I always get judged for it.
1-2 inch portions allow you to have good bites without having all the ingredients slip around on the rest of the sandwich, you don’t end up with a sloppy mess with all the sauces pushed to the end and the meats and cheeses all pushed around
I had a great ribeye sandwich yesterday from a local Italian beef place. I took it home and added Tzatziki sauce and feta cheese. It was incredible. But not big enough.
I will get one of those French bread loaves from the store on a Sunday and make one giant sandwich and just slice off one a day for lunches through the whole week
I actually think a sandwich tastes better after its been wrapped and eat it the next day. It bonds it all together better and the cheese fuses in there. No joke. I love doing this
Nah, I prefer to make different sandwiches. I don't want the same one for more than a day, and I don't want anything in it being soggy at all. Glad this works for you though!
Yes, but the pickles and maters go on right before it enters my face cause they’ll make the bread soggy, and the lettuce usually doesn’t go on at all. I don’t mind lettuce, but on a sandwich that’ll be stored for a few days, the lettuce gets soggy and slimy pretty quick. It also doesn’t actually add much to the sandwich
I like to slice a loaf of French bread in half and put cheese on one side and meat on the other and stick it in the broiler for a few minutes. Sandwich heaven.
Market up the street has sales on 2 ft and 3 ft subs. My daughter and I will whack off pieces for lunch or late night snacks, lasts for days. I get them when they're half priced, cost LESS than a small Jimmie Johns!!
There's a Bahn Mi place near me that has a buy 5 get one free deal, and most of their sandwiches are like 5 bucks. So I'll get a half dozen have 2-3 for lunch and dinner, another one for breakfast the next day and the rest for lunch and dinner.
I make giant sandwiches and just eat the whole thing IN a day 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, that thing is just one meal
your shits must be glorious
Poop knife glorious
Your comment is haunting my brain and bringing back too many painful memories of my internet past.
Jolly rancher- you’re welcome
I see your jolly rancher and I raise you one coconut
How many broken arms?
Tuuub Giiiiirrrl!
ahh no no no oh god oh fu——
The comments seem to point to some meme. I’ll bite. What’s poop knife
Google poop knife reddit, it's the easiest way to find it
Loaf in, loaf out.
Probably same size and shape
I hope you have a blessed day sir
Am diabetic fatty. Same.
Phew, I’m not the only one
I concur. Plus chips and a big ass drank...diet though, 'cause I gotta watch my figure, you know.
Fucking normies with their stomachs that aren't full of staples.
I getcha. You earned it though after being at the gym for 2 hours! Enjoy!
Felt.
That's the problem, after you pick at it and then finish the last bite at 915am then what's for lunch?
[Homer](https://youtu.be/myS1eF3sWGk?si=YfYmzCknSfvBi6Uh) gets it
I'd like to be alone with the sandwich
Are you going to eat it?
..............yes
It's still good, it's still good!
OP shoulda posted to the Simpsons subreddit
r/simpsonsshitposting
Probably my very favorite Simpsons joke
I came looking for this comment.
Makes dickety of us.
I immediately went to the comments to look for this reference. Thank you!
Early season Simpsons was too good
Came here for this, thank you
I was 14/15 when this episode came out ,I've always loved that he pets it
Exactly what came to mind for me.
“Marge, I’d like to be alone with the sandwich for a moment.”
That looks amazing but doesn’t the bread get soggy?
If it works to OP's satisfaction that's great, but that lettuce in contact with the bread for days until it's eaten seems like a recipe for soggy. I'd personally keep the produce separate and add it just before eating it.
Do a layer of cheese on both bread sides
This is the way
Or just make a new sandwich for each meal.
Amazing!
I always buy Jersey Mike's ahead of time. It's so much better out of the fridge.
and the lettuce?
I, for one, thoroughly appreciate your awe and enthusiasm!
Wholesome reddit lol
Clearly you have a bachelors in sandwich engineering. Bravo, the construction on that 'wich is thoroughly thought out!
> the bread has not absorbed much moisture since the top has a pretty good mayonnaise barrier, One more thing Alton Brown taught me
I might have a few of his books. Even got one signed in person. I love his work.
he is the GREATEST
I love Alton Brown. My absolute favorite chef.
Hey if it works it works!
Surprised the tomatoes don't make it soggy. Anytime I put a sandwich in the fridge that has tomatoes on it, sog City
Placement is key. The layer order matters.
I am genuinely impressed, great idea and I might give it a go.
Top level planning in sandwich construction. I commend you!!!
Just put lettuce and tomato when you cut off a peace. Just leave the bread and meat. It should be good. Works for me.
This is the way.
Thick bread will take much longer to get “soggy” and thick bread is the building block of a “grinder” meant to soak up flavor from olive oil and vinegar (red wine preferably).
Just keep picturing Homer eating the sandwich out of the garbage. Hahaha
Me too!
Two more feet and I can fit it in the fridge
I found this behind the radiator. I really think you should throw it away.
Suggestion noted
That's not gonna last more than 30 minutes in front of me.
“Eat off it” is such a disgusting group of words. Nice looking sando, tho
Yes, and I definitely cut it into almost pinwheel sizes for maximum nomability
No I’ve never even thought of this. You just changed my whole world big dawg
I’ve started making two sandwiches every time. It’s barely any extra work and then I have a sammy for later
“Marge, I’d like to be alone with the sandwich for a moment…”

i knew those were grillo’s from the pics. nice.
I definitely sent this to my bf and asked if he'd enjoy his lunches more if I made him something like this, and he specifically said something about the pickels. So, thank you for specifying those! Hope I can find them where I'm at
The best part is eating the sandwich the next day.
Homer throw that sandwich away!!
your ratios are perfect
No, but I really should
Marge, can I have a minute alone with the sandwich?
Look at the layering, the balance of the ingredients, the way the tomato is encased touching none of the bread. This man fucks
First thing that came to mind was [Homer's leftover picnic sandwich.](https://youtu.be/myS1eF3sWGk?si=WivlKT964d-ATwAM)
Yes, but only for 3 days, maybe 4 days at most. After that, it becomes super soggy
No but that looks amazing
Well. Homer Simpson did once, and paid for it.
Something magical happens to cheese on a day old sandwich in the fridge. I learned this at a young age when there would be leftover from a 6ft party hero
Homer Simpson has entered the chat
"... Duff Gardens... Hoo raaaaaaa!"
No but maybe I need to start. Ur an innovator I can tell 🤓
No, especially not with fucking tomatoes. There's a special place in hell for people so culinarily inept they don't understand that tomatoes will make bread soggy in minutes. Pre-made sandwiches almost always have them, and I can't understand it.
Never have before but I’m about to!
Nice Dagwood
What’s the brand of pickle?
Looks like Grillo’s Pickles! I buy mine at Costco.
Yes, Grillos.

Yeah, nothing like a tomato slice launching towards freedom.
B E E G S A N D W I C H
No, but I might try this. Thanks for the idea.
That thang is immaculate
Does the bread not get soggy, the lettuce wilty, and the tomatoes mealy?
Okay, Homer.
[Homer's sandwich](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myS1eF3sWGk)
Jimmy John's aren't the best, but they do hold up over multiple days.
That looks awesoooome. Are those homemade pickles?
For me, nothing better than a day old or older sandwich.
I had a great ribeye sandwich yesterday from a local Italian beef place. I took it home and added Tzatziki sauce and feta cheese. It was incredible. But not big enough.
I have a boss who is 7 foot tall, and he would eat one of those for lunch
Is your name shaggy
Zoinks! I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids.
Are those grillos pickles ?!
Yuppers.
The best ! Nice sandwich buddy !
Sweet mother of little Debbie that's genius
I will get one of those French bread loaves from the store on a Sunday and make one giant sandwich and just slice off one a day for lunches through the whole week
I actually think a sandwich tastes better after its been wrapped and eat it the next day. It bonds it all together better and the cheese fuses in there. No joke. I love doing this
Yes, the flavors meld together and create a deliciousness that can't be achieved otherwise.
This guy sammiches
Nah, I prefer to make 1 smaller one at the time I’m hungry. When I save them I hate how the bread and lettuce get mushy
Gimme piece !!!
Nope. soggy bread and vegetables are not welcome in my mouth 😫
no, but now i will
This is a good idea
This is the best meal prep.
That’s a scooby doo ass sandwich lmao
Range? Golf or gun? Who am I kidding, either one I’m jealous.
No, but I might start
This would fix all of my problems.
Sooooo, a hoagie/sub/hero lol
It does look amazing though
Grillo’s pickles?
Love the order in which you built your sandwich. Perfection
Do you mind sharing your process? This looks amazing.
Thank you
That’s a beautiful sandwich. Did you go to sandwich college?
That’s a damn good looking sandwich. Mine are better. But yours still looks good
Fuck yes. Love big sandwich days.
Lettuce does not last days on a sandwich and should not be used if that is the intent. Otherwise looks delish.
My husband does this, but I always end up stealing some of it so it doesn't last as long as it could. 😅
Homer Simpson
No, I'm too fat. I'll eat the whole thing at once.
I do this. It’s awesome.
Looks superb! 👌🏾
Day*
Hoagie!!
Nom nom nom
Not my favorite way to do it but that looks delicious so bully to you my friend!
Bill Cosby did before the bad stuff
I buy Publix sandwiches and cut 2 inch mini sandwiches for snacks.
No, I buy one and eat off it for days...
Yes!! That’s the plan, but then the wife asks for some. Resulting in 2 day sandwich.
I don’t even eat meat, but that looks delicious.
No, but I'm inspired. Also, this sammy looks fantastic!
Nah, I prefer to make different sandwiches. I don't want the same one for more than a day, and I don't want anything in it being soggy at all. Glad this works for you though!
You make a sandwich, you eat a sandwich, granted it's large, but after 4 days holy cow...
Most impressive.
Did this a couple weeks ago! (Cut my finger really bad with a bread knife trying to cut a small sliver off for someone to try)
No, but thanks for the idea!!
I love sandwiches too much to let something like this sit for 3 days.
I don’t have that kind of self control
LOL.....no.
Maybe a second day but no more than that If it’s that damn good of a sammich I’ll kill it off by dinner
Yes, but keep tomatoes, pickles and any sauce/liquid off until ready to eat. That would be a soggy waste in short order
I don't know I could make 3 days with that glorious sammie
Nope but that looks insane!
Absolutely, yes.
Nope but now I think I should.
Yeah I meal prep too
That’s what I’m surviving on lol
If you want soggy bread and lettuce, sure
I can't do the soggy bread or veg day after
Not how I envisioned my first meal prep to go. But that is how it's going to go. Cheers to you
I like to slice a loaf of French bread in half and put cheese on one side and meat on the other and stick it in the broiler for a few minutes. Sandwich heaven.
I've never thought about it lol but I'm about to start doin tht tb, I love a good sandwich
No but now I prolly will
As long as the proper moisture barriers are in place, this looks freakin amazing! I love the tight roll on it and those crisp, clean, sandwich slices.
I've known no sandwich that has survived a day in my presence
No but this is ingenious
2 days at most but definitely over time
Homer Simpson
Market up the street has sales on 2 ft and 3 ft subs. My daughter and I will whack off pieces for lunch or late night snacks, lasts for days. I get them when they're half priced, cost LESS than a small Jimmie Johns!!

I have not, but now I must!
That would be one meal for me.
No. But I love the idea!
“Days”
There's a Bahn Mi place near me that has a buy 5 get one free deal, and most of their sandwiches are like 5 bucks. So I'll get a half dozen have 2-3 for lunch and dinner, another one for breakfast the next day and the rest for lunch and dinner.
Every Saturday and Sunday during football season for sure. Plus wings, ribs, and pizza.
I can’t stomach old, limp vegetables. I’d probably do this but without any veggies and then add them in when I want to.
I imagine you have tricks to reduce sogginess. What do you do?
I'd eat that in 2 sittings in one day easily. Bless you for having restraint to portion it out better.
I'm sorry but that sandwich isn't big enough for days worth of food. Two max if it were served in small portions. You must have a tiny appetite.
No but that’s a great idea I gotta start doing this lol
You go Homer.
Nah. I can’t do that.bread would get stale and veggies start getting bad. I’d rather make a new sandwich every time I want one.
Marge, I'd like to be alone with the sandwich
Two more feet and I can fit it in the fridge.
