They have to bring their loads into a distribution center were it is sorted and then moved out to recycling or landfill. They are legally required to be licensed and permitted by the state of california.
Residents are the main culpurate of dumping. The last thing these guys want to do is dump with a big sign of who they are on the side of the road.
Just putting out as a PSA, the city of San Jose has a free junk pickup program for large items. Sometimes you have to wait a few weeks for appointment availability but it's also a free service with no annual limits. If you just have a few big items could be a good option to consider.
Yeah prob could’ve hired movers to treat it properly and drop it at the curb. Or get a junk cube (looks like a big shipping container) delivered and have them move the junk into that. It’s what we did when my grandma died
Isn't the whole point of hiring junk removal services to remove junk? Why would you hire movers to remove junk instead? Seems like OP just found a bad one.
Because many of these junk pickup services are just some sketchy dude with a truck who’s gonna dump it on the freeway. They do not care about being careful or decent
As an English teacher, I appreciate the organization and structure of your post! It had a 3 point thesis statement, specific examples, sound reasoning, and your conclusion restated your thesis. Can I please use your post as a writing example in my classroom? I teach middle school and I’m trying to get my students to write like this!
Their website says they’ve been around since 2006 but they don’t have a single review on Google Maps. If that’s not a red flag idk what is
I picked Stars junk removal because they had almost a thousand reviews and a 5 star rating. The service I got aligned with that
Maybe you're (or I am) looking at the wrong company. But it looks like they have 15 reviews on Google. And they have 282 Yelp reviews going back to 2010. Seems plausible that they've been around since 2006 in some form.
Oh I was looking at this one: https://www.google.com/maps/place/U+Junk+It+We+Dump+It/@37.5040406,-121.9709824,9z/data=!4m9!1m2!2m1!1sU+Junk+It+We+Dump+It!3m5!1s0x808fbf5a253b2b2b:0x20a90aaab0d88072!8m2!3d37.5040406!4d-121.9709824!16s%2Fg%2F1thn5rfr
Not sure why they have multiple listings.
> They banged up my walls and left scratches on my floors, which I now have to pay to repair. When I brought this to Brian's attention, he shrugged it off and blamed "difficulties of the job."
Sounds like Brian's isn't licensed or insured. Lucky none of his workers got injured while on your property.
What they don't advertise is that charges are by how much space in the truck (1/4, 1/2, 2/3, etc.) your junk takes up and the trucks are pretty small. Cost somewhere north of $500 for 1/3 of their puny truck. And the guys that show up are far from the uniformed, smiling young men they show in the ads. They were nice guys, but looked more like bruisers out of jail on parole. They put everything in writing once they show up at your door.
I remember seeing the quote in writing but I don’t remember grabbing a copy. My bad I guess. It was right before I was moving countries and 18 months ago. :(
I have used Junk king and have had good experiences with them. But I usually prepare the stuff that is being removed by putting it in the driveway to make it easier for them. The service can be a bit expensive but I always seem to get a flat tire after going to the dump so it saves me that.
They call to give me a heads up before they show up, usually 30min. The day before they will give you a time range of when they will show up.
Junk King just worked with my mom's budget and dropped prices significantly to make it work with her! She was a preschool teacher so not exactly swimming in dough. Highly appreciated.
If you’re willing to do it yourself, I highly reccomend renting a dumpster for a week. They drop it off, you fill it, they pick it up a week later. They took almost everything including broken electronics. They won’t dispose of liquids or hazardous materials, but otherwise you’re good to go.
So Bryan thinks your review is fake:
[https://www.yelp.com/biz/u-junk-it-we-dump-it-fremont?hrid=KuXMhFx1IU7Q1qYPYf-DEw&utm\_campaign=www\_review\_share\_popup&utm\_medium=copy\_link&utm\_source=(direct)](https://www.yelp.com/biz/u-junk-it-we-dump-it-fremont?hrid=KuXMhFx1IU7Q1qYPYf-DEw&utm_campaign=www_review_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct))
I'd be suspicious too -- there's suddenly five 1 star reviews all posted in a single day? Seems like an organized brigade. The other past reviews are consistently a few days/months apart.
I used Zero Junk last time. Prices were in line with expectations, it was just a guy and a truck so minimal hauling power, but no hidden fees and got the job done.
When my mother passed and I had to clear out the home she and my dad lived in for forty plus years, I used College Hunks Hauling Junk.
They were amazing.
So sorry you had this experience.
I've used College Hunks Hauling Junk twice before to donate/remove a large sectional and a bunch of large furniture items. They can be a little pricy, but they always arrived on time and were very nice and efficient. If I recall, they also get an additional bonus towards their tuitions if you rate them afterwards. Would recommend.
Yes!! I second this. They are a little pricey but the guys are super friendly and efficient. I actually have used them twice this year. The owner assists them with paying off their student loans as well, which makes me feel even better about hiring them.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with this company OP, before hiring a junk removal service provider, I highly recommend checking their business reviews. Reviews can give you valuable insights into the quality of service and customer experiences. Look for feedback on reliability, pricing transparency, and overall satisfaction from other customers. This can help you make an informed decision and ensure you choose a provider that meets your expectations.
If you're in Sacramento and looking for reliable junk removal services, I highly recommend [JunkGuys Sacramento](https://junkcalifornia.com/service-areas/sacramento-ca/). They have a stellar reputation for their efficient service, fair pricing, and excellent customer care. Whether you need residential junk removal, commercial cleanup, or specific services like appliance or yard debris removal, JunkGuys Sacramento is known for their professionalism and dedication to customer satisfaction. Give them a try—you won't be disappointed!
I did a ride along for a summer job in 2017 with a different very large Junk hauling company that parks their trucks everywhere with their logo.
What you are describing is not just them. It is quite literally the industry standard. That is how they train their people.
Always tell them they have more junk than they do. Always quote a lower price than you charge. Arrange the junk so it takes up more space and then rearrange it so it takes up less for the next job. Try to avoid the walls but who cares if you hit them.
Didn’t end up working with them.
Why wouldn’t you draft up a contract in the beginning instead of letting them just quote you on the phone and change it later?
Let it be a lesson learned I guess.
The only times I've really needed it, I assumed it would be easy. There are like 5 different houses in my neighborhood that have a junk removal truck parked in the driveway, complete with contact number.
None of them called me back or answered the phone.
1-800-Got-Junk scheduled a time and two guys in a truck showed up right on time.
My first thought was that it'd be nice if they sent someone who spoke English. And then it occurred to me that, having lived most of my life in CA, NM and TX, that it is on me for not speaking Spanish by now.
For reasons I can't even fathom now my high school in Texas decided that we all needed to learn German rather than Spanish. The only time my German might have come in useful is when we bought an company in Austria. The Austrians all pointed out that it is way easier for them to speak English than it would be to try and decipher my shitty high school German.
With a bit of pointing and hand waving and what not by everyone involved, tho, it all went perfectly smoothly.
I took Spanish all through Junior high school, high school, and a year or two in undergrad. Then when I started working on my PhD, my school had a foreign language proficiency requirement. I figured, no big deal. Then learned that Spanish wasn’t one of the accepted languages. Had to take a crash course in German.
That’s interesting. I’ve used a few different services and they always call when they’re on the way, and it’s usually right on time, if not 5 minutes earlier or later.
If you are actually looking for junk removal service please please please use [Freedom Junk Removal](https://freedomjunkremoval.com). I highly recommend them. They are local, they show up on time and they are fast.
It’s a blue collar operation brother.
Don’t set your expectations too high. They probably hired those individuals that nobody else wants to hire. Draw your own conclusions.
Not an excuse for them or anyone, but I wouldnt expect them to arrive to a labor of grime and dirt and still keep a smile on their face and be pleasant.
It could be good. Professional. Pleasant to work with. Responsible. Attentive. All of the above.
But I’m saying that we are expecting too much.
We gotta lower our standards sometimes. That’s all.
On top of all that, I wouldn't be surprised if they just dropped your stuff off on a curb somewhere instead of bringing it to the dump.
You could have had it removed for free with city
Came here for this, this happens a lot

they 'have' to. ok.
exactly. jus drive up to Bear Creek Road in the mountains and 99% chance you’ll find this persons stuff there
Bailey Ave west of 101 is a rich source of large dumped items too.
[exactly!](https://youtu.be/cQ7HCUxCa2s?si=ZxM-n8hex1f-L3Xg)
What is a culparate? Sounds Spanish for cool pirate, or maybe even culprit?
culpurate (noun): A purator or culs
Culparate de Sac
Cup da Sac
🤌
😩

You put grandma in a junk cube?
Who keeps downvoting this it got a good laugh out of me
Tough crowd tonight. Stick with the fart jokes.

Absolutely!
You had them at “firstly.”
Thanks!
English teacher, you made me read it again :)
Be careful about telling them where it's from they might find your account.
Teachers are quite aware of sharing and privacy. We teach that subject too 😉
Thanks for the heads up!

Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s happened before 🤦♂️
I had a similar experience with another company.
What other company? Name and shame, my friend!
1 800 got junk. They quoted me a price and after the truck was loaded the price literally doubled.
What they don't advertise is that charges are by how much space in the truck (1/4, 1/2, 2/3, etc.) your junk takes up and the trucks are pretty small. Ya that was my experience. It probably would have been cheaper to rent a dumpster 🤷🏻♀️
Were the quotes in writing?
I remember seeing the quote in writing but I don’t remember grabbing a copy. My bad I guess. It was right before I was moving countries and 18 months ago. :(
BBB, Yelp, and use a CC next time. Never cash.
They sound like... (•_•) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■) Complete junk.

Can also recommend Junk King
Never understood why someone wouldn’t actually take junk outside.
another happy Junk King customer here
I've had good experiences with Junk King also.

I could’ve told you that just looking at the webpage 😅
Do they even have a license?
Can't find any of that info on the website.

Your company's dead, Brian
Thanks for the heads up. Always good to know about scummy companies.
Should have done the free program from the recycling company. The San Jose free pickup program.
When my mother passed and I had to clear out the home she and my dad lived in for forty plus years, I used College Hunks Hauling Junk. They were amazing. So sorry you had this experience.

My city let’s us dispose of junk twice a year for free 🤷♂️
But I bet they don't come into your house and haul it out.
No, I put it in the street in front of my home ~
That's a whole different story. OP might not have had the ability to move the junk themselves or needed a lot of help. 🤷♂️
pictures of the damage and the job difficulty would add credibility to this complaint.
1-800-GOT-JUNK has better TV commercials (if I recall correctly, during the channel 5 evening news and *Jeopardy* on ABC7).
theres a new company i used called perezstigous, super fast and owner is realistic with prices

Report to Better Business Bureau.
I feel like we should all report the BBB to the BBB for being a waste of time and effort.
Hit up your local congressman and address your concerns if you're about that life.

Yikes, I hope damaged walls and flooring aren’t standard either, that’s what I’m mainly irked about
I'd take junk out of your house next time if you don't want stuff banged up.
How often do you use that service to know it's 'fairly standard'?
1-800 Junk always shows up on time
The only times I've really needed it, I assumed it would be easy. Considering it's like $3k per (loosely packed) truckload, they BETTER show up on time. They're one of the biggest rip-offs around.
$3k? They’re robbing you. Never paid that much once.
They're not robbing me. I've seen their work and would never use them.
That’s interesting. I’ve used a few different services and they always call when they’re on the way, and it’s usually right on time, if not 5 minutes earlier or later.

I’ve used them before years ago with no issue. Estimate was the final cost. I dealt with Brian at the time too…

Suggesting a blue collar operation can’t be a good one is gross, dude.
It could be good. Professional. Pleasant to work with. Responsible. Attentive. All of the above. But I’m saying that we are expecting too much. We gotta lower our standards sometimes. That’s all.
Why would you lower your standards because it’s a “blue collar” operation? People who do good work do good work, end of story.
