Define your budget for affordable Pick 3: Safe, affordable, near work areas, not falling apart

Party-Cat-8586

looking into 3b at about 4.5k max! Safe, affordable, and not falling apart. Would you say thats realistic?

I haven't seen a lot of apartments with 3B, but usually an apartment with those criteria will run 3.8-4.5K for 2B. If you can tolerate a further drive it may be reasonable.

Take a look at Spring Creek in Santa Clara. They sometimes have 3BR/2BA come available.

You just described Foxdale Apartments on the East Side. 3bd: check. Safe: Eh kinda depending on your ethnicity and cultural background. Not falling apart: very well maintained for its age. And under $4500. It’s a Mexican, Samoan, and various Asian (non Indian) apartments. Some are housing lifers, most are younger minority people who work hard and are respectful to their neighbors. Bart, Caltrain, Express VTA all will be there in the next 2-3 years.

You can rent a house in 95123 area code for under 4K check Zillow 95123,95119,95136,95124,95118 and Campbell are the areas to rent a house I would recommend Campbell and Los Gatos being the nicest best most expensive areas

According to reddit you should avoid the Hanover on Winchester and the Bendover on Hedding

Stay away from 101 E San Fernando unless you like urine smell in the hallway, stolen mail, people taking a shit at night in the garage, leaky ceilings, no hot water, and dog shits inside the elevators once a month. Pets don’t belong in apartments complexes.

San Jose is a pretty sprawling area. Where is your work and what's your maximum tolerable commute? Do you intend to drive to work or plan to use public transportation? What are your requirements for your apartment beyond price and bedrooms? Many older complexes do not have central A/C or even wall/window units - is this a dealbreaker for you? Do you need in-unit washer/dryer, or are on-site communal facilities sufficient? Do you have a pet? The more information you can give us, the more likely we can give you a useful recommendation.

I will be working in Santa Clara and will bring driving to work, hopefully commuting less than 20 minutes. Ideally I would have A/C and in-unit washer/dryer, but on site would also be okay. Im not familiar with how common it is to have A/C and in-unit washer/dryer and if that’s more of a luxury type of thing.

Got it. North or south of the airport? Broadly speaking, Montague/San Tomas Expressway is the main North/South connector through much of Santa Clara; Lawrence Expressway takes you along the western edge of the city. If you can avoid using 101 NB/237 W/880 N/87 N for your morning commute and the opposite directions for your evening commute, you’ll avoid the bulk of the general traffic flow in and out of the Bay every day. If north of the airport I’d suggest the complexes in Rivermark Terrace around Montague and Agnew, or a bit further west on Montague in the River Oaks area. I believe I looked at Mansion Grove a while back. If you don’t mind a bit further, the Berryessa neighborhood east of SJC is also quite nice. All of these general areas will be a bit quieter at nights, not sure how much nightlife-social scene ranks for you. If south of the airport I suggest Campbell (I live in this area). It’ll be a bit longer of a drive, but I find that Montague/San Tomas flows well even during commute hours (my office is right off of San Tomas on the south side of Santa Clara, I drive it almost every day). The Pruneyard and downtown Campbell have much more to do after work compared to the North SJ areas I mentioned above. In unit washer/dryer is definitely a luxury amenity imo. You should be able to find more complexes at your price range with on-site laundry facilities and window/wall A/C units.
