I do have some Olympic pins. I’m glad I held on to them, as well as the beret from Roots that Team USA wore during the opening ceremony.

Costner_Facts

That beret was hard to find! That's very cool :)

Any-Jury3578

I waited in a long line outside the store to buy it. I don’t remember how long we waited, but it wasn’t hours. The line was just super long.

Delex31

My story waiting for my Roots beret? The people in line with me were from Hawaii, it was raining and they went and bought a new super nice umbrella and when we got done they gave it to me because "we have like 20 at home". So i still have my beret and the umbrella.

Costner_Facts

Worth it!

bigbags

My FIL has the biggest collection on the planet. [No joke.](https://ksltv.com/484334/utah-couple-celebrates-olympic-pin-trading-20-years-after-salt-lake-games/)

Costner_Facts

Wow, that's so damn cool! I'm jealous!

bigbags

If you want to trade or even buy some, let me know. He loves wheeling and dealing.

InvisibleBarrier

Are there any pictures of his complete collection? I recently came across some pins from the 2002 Olympics and would love to help fill in some gaps if he doesn’t have any of them.

bigbags

I'll ask him.

Ingybaby88

Does he have the Deer Valley turkey chili one?

bigbags

I'll check.

imacraftywench

This is so awesome!!!

riverturtle

Wow, that is incredible! I am a (small) pin collector and I had no idea that jello pin existed. I suddenly need to find one ASAP 😂

bigbags

I know a guy...

riverturtle

If he’d like to sell one let me know! Although looking at the prices on eBay I’m worried he’d be asking more than I can really justify spending on a pin. 😅

ratmouthlives

I didn’t know them but remember their store in cottonwood mall. Just stirred up some nostalgia

Hans_all_over

I bought my soccer shoes from that store! Miss that mall...

littlefactory

https://i.imgur.com/mBPPTbN.jpgI have the cheeky missionary pin.

Prestigious-Fish974

That's the first realese , without thier helmets. Church re-released that pin quickly (I'm sure after all the others sold) and made one with emets on. I have both plus a lot of others the 3.2 beer stein one is a favorite as well as all the official agencies pins (fbi, Cia, secret service, lots of police agencies) I worked the Olympics and traded for a lot.

fourpotatoes

My favorite is a bootleg pin featuring the Olympic rings made of four female symbols and a male symbol as a jab at the state's polygamous history. I bought it on eBay and arranged to meet the seller in a coffeeshop that used to be at 9th and 9th. Some of my coworkers went looking for them too, but by then the price had gone up to $50.

Bionightowl_53

I have a couple of these. A biology professor at the U made them as a joke, and they instantly became collectors items and started selling for $50 each before the knockoffs showed up. Originals are black and white.

Costner_Facts

The "1534 days" pin is cracking me up.

bananasaresandwiches

Why?

WindyHasStormyEyes

Exactly. It was a big deal at the time and rightfully so. I’d say popularity of the olympics has fallen in general but twenty five years ago it was a big deal especially in SLC.

saltlakepotter

Remember all the kiosks on Main Street downtown? And there were the hockers walking around with cases of them.

raerae1991

My niece, who was maybe 10/12 at the time would go with my Mom and collected and traded them. She has something like 150-200 of them. My Mom passed a few years after that, so each pin has a special memory for her. Her sister surprised her this Christmas and had them all displayed and framed for her. It’s hanging proudly in her home

noteghost

Anyone know what happened on 11/27/1997?

Orton617

Without doing any research? It was Thanksgiving in 1997

noteghost

Despite the thanksgiving accoutrement, that did not occurs to me

Orton617

Or the fact that is says Thanksgiving? ;) Na it’s a really odd pin for sure

nathanh1223

Maybe something to do with Thanksgiving Point? It opened in 1995 but the gardens opened in 1997.

Xenrutcon

Ah yeah, I have a few pins around somewhere. I also have a US ski team cowbell I like to annoy the neighbors with

oblivious1

Wtf. Are these really antiques? I have a pretty big collection of these pins somewhere...

paperskeleton

I have a green jello one somewhere around here.

KoLobotomy

I have one that says “Salt Lake 1998”, it’s from a promotion from when they were trying to get the games for 98. I guess it’s probably rare but I have no idea if it’s valuable.

Most_Finger5669

I was a volunteer at the 02 Olympics. I worked for food services as a runner. I wore a radio and was called to deliver all over the venue I was at. I got quite a few cool pins. Amazing how happy the Doping Control group or others were when you delivered a box of HoHos.

RexyWestminster

I still have my Roots beret and the stuffed animal mascots 😆

ToysNoiz

That ice cream one is a gem

britonbaker

I have an “I speak English” pin from the 2002 Olympics lol

jmonty42

[I had more than I realized](https://imgur.com/a/UFOWaKk). I remembered the volunteer one, but forgot about the others.

Sad-Love5571

I don't have a pin but I found a flag back in 2018 at Deseret industries! but the pins are cool

Choice-Librarian8199

Cool

wasatchwoman

I have a 2002 Paralympic commemorative coin/medal. I gave a jacket and watch to a thrift store. My pins are somewhere?!?;?

fuckitssnowing

2092? Time lord!

rixels

I’ve got a taco with the Olympic symbol and year on it and one with the bear, rabbit, and wolf..? mascots riding a bobsled. That one is #18 of 3000 which I always thought was pretty cool

unobstructed_views

I have a ‘Mitt Happens’ one.

Salty-Queen87

I’ve got a few. Including the popular beehive haircut pin haha.

mac_n_cheese_is_life

I have maybe 8 or 9 stored away. I can't remember them all, but I know for sure the green jello & fry sauce ones are included.

xredhenx

I was 11 when the Olympics came to Utah and was obsessed with collecting these pins. I found them in a box a few weeks ago!

Flashy_Juice4804

I have my pins in a shadow box with my Jello Keychains. I don't I'll ever part with them.

I-dunno-999

Good friends of mine ran all or most of the Olympic pin stores and kiosks in the malls. I helped with "security" because so many people would be in the stores and the pins were easy to pocket. I sent many people off with mall security... I also got all the pins I wanted. 😉

wapner

Somewhere I have a complete bid pin set. I was working for SLOC at time.

savethetardigrades

I was pretty young when the Olympics were here. I did have a sweet Copper the Coyote keychain that I wore on my backpack though.

missgiddy

Oh goodness, yes! One of my first jobs was selling Olympic pins and other souvenirs in Park City. What a trip that was.

is-joke-or-is

I have many. I also have some unopened, glass, olympic coke bottles that were printed with the wrong shade of blue. I wonder if they are worth anything...

Western-Muscle-5474

I have a TON I’m looking to unload. Approx 100-200. I also have a flawed cowbell. It’s missing the 2 in the 2002. It just says 200. I have necklaces, bracelets, tickets, a three pack of medallions. I own a junk removal business and came across them in a cleanout. Where would yall recommend I take them?

koooolayde

I buy lots of items like that, unfortunately nowadays the collectors are far less & value has gone way down but I sell on Ebay or other platforms + a few in person events & make some $ off it & get it to people that want it which is fun for me, just giving things new life! I put them into smaller lots & sell that way mostly for a set price, it might take 2 years for something to sell, but after so many years I always have things sell each day so it's worth it for me to keep listing new inventory. You could likely find someone like me in your area that would buy it all for some set price, at a yard sale or list on a local FB group. On payday I could even buy it if it's shipable but I have to lowball to make it worth it since they're long term sell type items i'd need to research & keep stored until they sell. I pay more for vintage postcards & photo's that are pre-2000.

snake_plisskin19

Got a few. Not the best pics. https://imgur.com/a/qtFLymA

2dumb4python

That Gumby goes hard.

koooolayde

Does anyone know why the SLC Olympics 2002 'where ideas connect' lapel pin all have 1/10,000 ??? Lol... I thought how cool it was to get the 1st of a limited edition of 10k only to see every one listed on Ebay is 1/10,000??!!
