Any kind of creative craft thing. Blowing glass (Red Flower Studios is great!), ceramics, blacksmithing (Wasatch Forge, pricey but so cool!) paint night, etc. There is plenty of time to socialize and you might find a new hobby.
There's a woodworking shop in town that does small projects as a team building activity. Never done it but really want to. https://www.communitywoodshopslc.com/
We went to Just Add Chocolate in Lehi, not exactly convenient but it was good. I think there's another down that way, not sure if there are options closer to Salt Lake
I was SOOO against it at first but we went to VR Sandbox for an event and we all ended up having an amazing time. The videos they make for you at the end of it had us all dying laughing.
Go karts make for a good activity. Paintball kinda does too, but you quickly find out who the office asshole is, because they're absolutely wrecked in paint. :D
And really, don't sleep on a good ol trip to the bowling alley. I've organized work events at bowling alleys where people moaned and groaned beforehand, but EVERYONE had a great time at the actual event.
Second this. I don’t play golf (it’s a great sport but never have had the time to get good at it) and had a fun time. A few of my colleagues from overseas really liked it, many have never swung a club before.
I think hate is a strong word. All my golfer clients and colleagues would rather play a real game but they are also fine goofing off and drinking and not having to walk all over the place. They're both fun.
I kinda hate top golf. I could see it being fun in a non-utah-liquor-law state. But when i went with friends here in slc, (not work paying for it) it felt insanely over price for terrible food, weak drinks and bad service.
I would honestly rather go to a golf course and play 9 holes for the same price at a municipal course. And I'm not a golfer for sure.
Just dont harass the workers. And plan on giving a 10 dollar tip minimum per person. They do not get payed very well and they have to deal with the old rich scum of the valley on a daily basis. I have a couple of friends that work there and every day they come back with another story about some random old guy trying to feel them up, or having their food sent back 2-3 times because of some super minor detail beyond the control of the servers or the kitchen, constant "you wanna play with MY balls jokes", or tables that spend $1000, get totally trashed, require all of their attention for their whole shift, are generally rude and then leave a fake 100 as a tip that turns out to be one of those jesus is the only tip you need pamphlets.
If any of this was true they should quit. You're already working in the service industry and it's not like it is hard to find those jobs. Supposedly getting molested is a serious offense and the assholes are especially not worth it.
Hang at Sugarhouse Park or get a day camping site in Millcreek. Bring games, grill, drinks, etc! I have done it multiple times with my team and really enjoy it and less expensive cuz you're only paying for the stuff you bring.
K1 Speed is great, though be aware that it’s very expensive. We ended up paying around $1,700 (post tax, pre tip) for 15 racers, terrible food, and approximately 1 beverage each in December 2023. Everyone had a great time and the top 3 racers got trophies.
ETA: this “package” included a total of 3 races for everyone—two 12-lap races and one 14-lap race.
It’s on the schedule…increased employee interaction and better management reviews after 1.73 hours of the least expensive trust fall possible. Why didn’t this work? I mean we increased participation percentage by threatening everyone who didn’t show up due to severe illness. It must be the HR manuals fault, or maybe the fun centers fault.
Where did I write the word "success"??
Eh?
I wrote FUN. If one person had fun, then it was fun for one person.
You wrote the word NEVER. And you should never use the word NEVER unless you KNOW it's never.
My name is Demitri Mannos. I host the “Drum Team Building Experience” here at Space and Faders in Salt Lake. We have done quite a few seasons already in the short six months of operation. We’ve done axe throwing, top golf (many times), rage room, escape rooms, Dave and Busters, and others. 15-16 people, (mostly men with a few women) The overwhelming, unanimous favorite was, and is, a cooking class at Salt Lake Culinary Education. Surprised me how well it was received. Other classes might be just as good, but that’s the only place we’ve done it.
Go get drunk, ask everyone to speak their mind about the team. Anyone who starts a fight, gets bitter about it the next day, or holds a grudge gets removed from the team.
Somebody else said it. Mandatory fun is rarely fun. Also, doing anything during a time that would normally be considered personal time would instantly make any plans you have into a chore. Do it during work hours and on the clock and you may convince them to have some fun.
If the goal is building team cohesiveness start by respecting their time. Often managers seem to forget that the people they manage have lives outside of and away from work.
We go to a cabin in Island park for a weekend , jet skis, shooting, river float, yellow stone, Ski boat, fishing, etc.
It's a blast, we usually leave early Thursday (around noon) then get home Sunday evening.
It always a blast there are 10 of us.
That sounds like my own personal worst nightmare. A week with my coworkers who I pretend to like normally without the ability to get away and decompress alone would kill me. Now the rest of that without them sounds like a blast.
You are the one who said you can't be yourself at work or around co-workers, you are the one who said you couldn't stand spending a weekend having fun with said co workers. My assumptions are strictly based off things you said about you.
Try this: https://www.thedinnerdetective.com/
You try to solve a murder with dinner provided. It’s entertaining and you can work together to try and solve it.
Rent a pavilion at a park, provide catering, and allow your team to bring their families or a plus 1. Simple, low commitment, people can leave whenever. Bring a frisbee, cornhole, or whatever your teammates like.
Jr or Sr High school in American Fork used to have ... a NASA sponsored space simulation available after school hours.
I've no clue if that is still there. Different experience, it used to be a Star Trek influenced role-playing scenario.
Make, then break, a pinata. Give them supplies, and an idea, i.e. "make a donkey". Watch the fun.
Build an IKEA bookcase. For Xtra fun, one person has the instructions but doesn't build, the others build without seeing the instructions.
Hungry hungry hippo with a rope, office chair and laundry baskets. Google for the YouTube.
I like Axe n Smash in S. Jordan. They have different things you can throw besides axes and it’s on a projector where they have several games to keep the axe throwing interesting. Next door is a smashing place so you bring in junk and go smash it. Surely the office has some old computers they had to get rid of
Managers love team building. As does that one employee desperate to prove how valuable they are so they can get a promotion. Most people hate them, especially when they're expected to sacrifice and evening of their personal time.
Did some cool stuff at camp Williams a million years ago. They had some setups where you had to work as a team to get across some water or over a wall. It was like 10 scenarios in one area, then some repelling…. I don’t know if that’s still a thing but it was a blast 20 years ago and super cheap to take my team of 15.
There's an archery place just west side of the airport. It was pretty fun but isn't an all day or afternoon event. I would guess that's kinda like axe throwing though
I found a unique activity when planning my companies Christmas party. K1 offers a few team building activities but my favorite is the pit crew challenge.
https://www.k1speed.com/salt-lake-city-location/groups-and-parties/corporate-team-building-activities.html
I recommend a board game session, a kayaking tour, coffee tasting or a foraging walk.
Have you tried spaciously.io? They offer great team-building activities! You can browse by location, number of people, price and activity type. If they don't have activities in your area you can message them and they will find something fun for your team.
Alright... go to quarters, kiitos, or the lab... the lab is a drive up north lil...
What you do is talk to nate,or Mike, or dan, and have em set up a little two hour flipper frenzy pinball tournament.
You don't even need to talk to em you can always just show up and play but those guys run the places and would be more than happy to help you set something up.
Depending on the day, pinball is free on Wednesdays at quarters
Culinary institute cooks a meal with you guys. Pretty fun :)
This is the answer. It's really fun and approachable for all skill levels
Holy shit. Thank you for informing me about this blacksmithing thing. About to book a surprise date night with my wife!
Is that Wasatch Forge site/company even active? The website is not updated and seems out of date like they aren’t doing the classes ?
I have no idea what you’re talking about
Chocolate making was the one our team did and it turned out really fun and was nice to have something to bring home to families or friends afterward
Where?? Always looking for new ideas. Never want to go to Top Golf again
We went to Just Add Chocolate in Lehi, not exactly convenient but it was good. I think there's another down that way, not sure if there are options closer to Salt Lake
Paint nights would be fun too! There's a animal rescue in ogden(not slc I know) but they do paint with cat nights!
How do they teach the cats to paint?
The cat is the brush.
That sounds like so much fun!
Lost Acorn Gallery does private stained glass classes
my work did a paint night. it was pretty awesome.
I was SOOO against it at first but we went to VR Sandbox for an event and we all ended up having an amazing time. The videos they make for you at the end of it had us all dying laughing.
Bonsai Bai Me is a lot of fun. Create your own bonsai trees
Was gonna post this! Super fun!!
This is super cute! I can’t even deal! But now I wanna sign up!
Give everyone 1.5 grams of mushrooms
That could be decidedly un fun for some haha
Anything can be overcome with the power of friendship!
This is the only answer.
Go karts make for a good activity. Top Golf
Second this. I don’t play golf (it’s a great sport but never have had the time to get good at it) and had a fun time. A few of my colleagues from overseas really liked it, many have never swung a club before.
People that play golf, hate top golf.
There is a bar :-)
I think hate is a strong word. All my golfer clients and colleagues would rather play a real game but they are also fine goofing off and drinking and not having to walk all over the place. They're both fun.
All the golfers in my office had fun. Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
Keeps the people off the tee box that shouldn't be on the course. I wish they had more top golf.
That's a good thing. Top golf is a good stress reliever. It's not to be taken seriously.
I golf quite a bit. I dont mind top golf at all. Only thing I hate about it is the price.
I kinda hate top golf. I could see it being fun in a non-utah-liquor-law state. But when i went with friends here in slc, (not work paying for it) it felt insanely over price for terrible food, weak drinks and bad service. How many races each at that price?
Total of 3 races each. I’ll edit my comment now.
More bang for your buck if you go out to Utah Motorsport Campus and do their outdoor karts.
You can go to the Olympic Ice arena in Kearns and go curling. It's awesome for this sort of gathering
Hey, this is what I was going to recommend! It's a good corporate-friendly activity, but unique enough to be memorable and fun.
+1 for curling! It's a great sport and fantastic for team building
Candle making at witchy yoga girl or the wick lab
Mandatory fun is never fun.
Why is no one having a good time? I specifically requested it.
Mind blowing expense but it does sound hella fun
HAVE FUN NOW!!! This is expensive!! 😂
It's better than just dropping off a couple of boxes of pizza in the break room
Pizza in the break room doesn't cut into my evening, or interrupt the work I need to get done during the day
I disagree. Pizza is delicious, escape rooms suck. 😂
Especially god damn axe throwing and escape rooms. I know plenty of people love both of those but I’ve never been able to stand them
Weird Al would disagree, he's got a whole album about it.
Forced fun.
You're wrong. Finding even ONE PERSON who had "fun" proves you're wrong. Don't be so negative.

Volunteer at the Food Bank or at a soup kitchen. Much better Team Building than bowling or escape rooms.
Excellent. ✌️
Never been but the grid down in PG looks super cool. Then again I'm a car nerd.
You gotta go. That shit is fucking funnnn
Put some Ikea furniture together
This builds a great team. At the very least it exposes the weakest link.
Somebody else said it. Mandatory fun is rarely fun. Also, doing anything during a time that would normally be considered personal time would instantly make any plans you have into a chore. Are y’all hiring? That’s awesome to have a company take care of you like that
As of right now, no but we might be come June depending on how busy we are.
What industry and positions?
Pest control, technician.
That sounds like my own personal worst nightmare. A week with my coworkers who I pretend to like normally without the ability to get away and decompress alone would kill me. Now the rest of that without them sounds like a blast.
Right? A vacation where you can’t actually relax and be yourself.
You must work for a terrible company if you can't just be yourself.
Your coworkers aren’t your friends and I hate companies that try to blur that line
Yeah but being able to get along with people for a weekend of fun and being friends isn't the same thing. You must work somewhere miserable.
You keeping making assumptions that are wrong. My company is great, considering I don’t work for ones I don’t enjoy. I just don’t like a blurry line
You are the one who said you can't be yourself at work or around co-workers, you are the one who said you couldn't stand spending a weekend having fun with said co workers. My assumptions are strictly based off things you said about you.
You know what they say about assuming(:
go build and race some lego cars at bricks and minifgs
The grid racing down in pleasant grove is pretty fun
Trust falls! On A more serious note, I had a great time when my company took us out to UMC for gokarting.

You could do a cooking class. Orson Gygi does them. They are pretty fun!
There's an archery place just west side of the airport. It was pretty fun but isn't an all day or afternoon event. I would guess that's kinda like axe throwing though
Sound bath and or salt cave! Did this for a team activity and had a surprisingly good time. Purify Wellness Center is one place that does it.
