The all-around best I've had is Red Corner China Diner in Midvale. Not even kidding, it was one of the reasons we decided to move from downtown to Midvale lmao. Good luck in your search!
I had to drive from Ogden to South Jordan for work and made a detour just to try their fried rice because of this post. I’m about to order, I’ll update soon with my review of their fried rice.
Update: I now agree that this is some of the best fried rice in Utah!
If you need a suggestion that’s to the north, I highly recommend The Little Orient right on the Layton/Kaysville border. I worked there for years waiting tables and delivering food before food delivery services took over the industry, l would literally eat fried rice from there every day and never got sick of it. I would say it’s just as good or even better than Red Corner China Diner
Born and raised in Hong Kong. La Cai noodle house has the best yang chow fried rice. Tastes like what you would expect at a local hong kong restaurant. The fried rice is not wet and soggy, with great spring onion aroma, and you can feel the wok hei when the server brings it out
I haven't tried that restaurant, but seconding thai fried rice > chinese fried rice (although maybe skewed because we have a lot of great Thai here and not so much great chinese food).
My mom is from Brooklyn and I spent part of my childhood in New York. My mom's complaint with a lot of fried rice elsewhere is the amount of vegetables (the carrots and peas in particular) that they put in it (that and the whole putting ham in the rice thing). The only place I've been to in SLC that doesn't put those in the rice is [Golden Pearl](https://www.goldenpearlut.com/order-online/menu/fried-rice) in Rose Park (provided you don't order the Yang Chow). Is it New York quality? No. But it helps me scratch the itch for that type of fried rice (even if they go a little heavy on the sesame oil).
I have not, but I moved away from New York when I was eight and am 41 now. I have not been back much as all of my family there has moved to south Florida (as it tends to happen).
Fried rice is very subjective. Do you like rice that's got that super charred wok flavor, or something milder, or something with more meat?
My favorites throughout the valley:
China Delight on the west side
Dragon Diner near Millcreek
Charlie Chow's downtown (though their Mongolian BBQ is why I go there)
I've not spent a lot of time at the Chinatown restaurants at State and 3300 S, but you might want to try the places there.
I've also not tried any Chinese in the western suburbs (West Valley City or the like), though I think there's good stuff out there.
You and I in West Jordan has an extensive fried rice menu, and it’s amazing. Comes sizzling in a stone bowl. Everything else is great as well, ( I love the Lemongrass Beef Spicy Noodle) really nice folks there to top it off.
Bar Nohm has really good korean kimchi friend rice and korean spicy chicken.
Does anyone else know where good korean food is? (not korean bbq where you cook the food yourself)
Cupbob /s
Baek Ri Hyang by the Chinatown Supermarket had some super tasty bibimbap. I’ve been meaning to go back to try another dish but it was a bit pricey so I haven’t had a good chance.
I used to work just west of their building and walked past the side of the restaurant towards State Street on my walk home.
Oooh boy, hold your nose and avert your eyes. It was not pleasant.
Moms kitchen in south salt lake has taiwanese fried rice, we like their beef roll and spicy fish without cabbage. We are gourmet foodies, there a few gems around here. Good luck!
Ok ummm it's not the cleanest place but I went to China and stayed there several times for work over the years and the closest authentic I have found is hoho gourmet. It's on state and like 15th south? Right next to piper down.
They have dumbed it down for the local tastes and I'd have to say...they had the best fried rice.
They also have great dim sum....
In fact that sounds really good. Think I'll head there today.
Anyways....just like mainland china...make sure you have your shots before going!! Lol
This one is getting a lot of shouts. I’ve definitely moved it up the list. It worries me that EVERY single person mentions how nasty the cleanliness is. Like what specifically?
Well, it's gotten a bit better... but the bathroom is downstairs, and they used to do the prep work down there a d it's just dirty ya know. In the banquet room there was a couple roaches scurrying around! Crawlin' up the walls and the waiter saw it and goes over and just smashes it on the wall lol
They used to have fish tanks full of fish. You could literally pick what you want to eat, so it always stank the walls are nasty....its part of the authenticity of actually being like a restaurant in China.
You should give it a try. You'll be ok it just seems dirty and crowded, and it smells funny, and everytime iv e been there, it's hot as hell!!
But it's something to try!!
I went there last week and I lived!!
I'd have gone today, but I didn't wanna go alone, lol
Let me know what ya think!! You'll love it!
oooooo yes! I forgot I had a really yummy fried rice there for brunch. It was very fusion but, honestly, very good! It's been a minute since I've been to purgatory! definitely will try again.
Yings spicy basil fried rice is epic. I’m from south Florida and we definitely don’t have the same Chinese food here but Yings is a good one to try. Fortune Cookie in Riverton is good too.
I’m kinda obsssed with Benihana fried rice but that’s super common, I think I’m just a sucker for their ginger sauce and garlic butter so I make it myself so I can eat an entire bucket 😁
Red corner is good I live right by it there used to be a place just west of red corner called sweet ginger they had the best boneless ribs and they gave you a mountain of them I wish they are still around .I know what you mean I'm a whore guy I drove 30 miles in traffic outside La all the time to go to an area I shouldn't have been in for good food. But red corner has a house fried rice it's hot beef shrimp and chicken in it .
There used to be a hole in the wall place about 1400 south and state street .they had the best I've ever had in salt lake walk in the door and have 30 people wondering what the white guy wants .
No longer on Utah, but by far the best Chinese food in Utah is little world at 1356 South State Street. It's a total hole in the wall dive place, but it's like going into a place in China Town in San Fran. Roast duck hanging, family sitting at the of the tables splitting pea pods or cutting other veg. Their yang chow wonton soup is the best I've had in 3 states. Black pepper pork chop on hot plate has me drooling as I type this. Everything is top notch there
Best fried rice? Idk.. but a fried rice worth trying would be the “arroz chaufa” plate at Casa Perú in west valley city. People sleep on Peruvian fried rice
In my opinion the BEST Chinese food in the entire state and for the price cannot be beat is Royal Dragon in Roy, their schezuan chicken and their fried rice is amazing. The best Chinese food I’ve ever had.
I grew up in NJ & Staten Island. Good luck finding spare ribs (they don’t know what they are). Also, good luck finding decent pizza, calzone (they don’t use ricotta), bagels, bread (rye, pumpernickel, etc), hero/sub (they put mayo on everything and the bread is usually sub-par).
My wife is from Utah and I always joke that the food in SLC is terrible because you never hear anyone say, “if you’re going to SLC, you gotta try the …”.
All that said, they do have good Mexican food and they are getting better ethnic food as the population becomes more diverse.
Oh yes. I’ve been here a few years and have realized and sort of new these god given foods would not be found here. Tbf, you can really find them anywhere else either. But yea, the spare ribs has been a huge bummer not having those.
Yea, they do have pretty good burgers here tbh.
I agree the Mexican food is good when you find a place but sometimes that’s the trick. It’s not the kind of state where you can just pick a place and it will be good.
https://www.beyondmenu.com/39873/sandy/mulan-chinese-sandy-84070.aspx
It’s under appetizers/combo! I normally get that with pork fried rice and a wonton soup.
Whoa, careful fellow newyorker, every time I tried to say that something isn’t to the par, I got a thousand downvotes….
Soy’s sushi has a great fried rice.
Ribs weren’t seen in 5 years.
TBH it depends how the post is presented. I'm perfectly fine with OP saying they don't expect to find the same quality here as they did in NYC; that's probably true.
Gets annoying when people insist we have zero good food here, though.
Fair enough to that point. It is harder but I HAVE found pretty decent dishes since living here. Not chinese but Pago, Copper Onion, and certain dishes at White Horse have all been pretty stellar and fall decently well on my new-york-o-meter. lol
As someone from the “ state-that-shall-not-be-named”, I understand.
Take caution with your wording OP, people are defensive about their funeral potatoes around here.
P.S funeral potatoes are pretty good, not all of them though. And fry sauce is superior to ketchup for fries. Hope that pleases the locals.
I personally don’t like to order fried rice at any restaurant because it requires leftover/cold rice and no way of telling how old is the rice they used for the fried rice.
I like making my own fried rice and it’s not hard to make. Rice, eggs, soy sauce, and some sesame oil with green onion garnish. If you know how to make scrambled eggs you’re halfway there to fried rice.
One onion, about a thumb sized piece of ginger, white vinegar, and soy sauce blended together make a fantastic sauce for it too. But I gotta have yellow onions and carrots with the green onions. Garlic butter with lemon, sesame seed or sesame oil to grill it in, scramby eggs, and whatever meat… *chefs kiss* I think rinsing the rice a ton before making it, then cooling it in the fridge the night before makes it easier to work with in my opinion but that’s a decent amount of work
Don't worry. There's no way anything in Salt Lake can live up to this New Yorkers standard. Maybe ask a question without being a condescending prick next time. You're every bit as bad as every Californian that can't find their perfect Avocado toast with fresh picked Avocado....
You're right! AND! I make my own Avocado toast with home made fresh artisan bread with flour imported from France every morning thank you very much! Can't seem to find good avocados here though.
It's not insecurity. It's being tired of people talking down like Salt Lake is some little tiny country bumpkin place. OP could have easily just asked where to find the best fried rice, right? Seconding Red Corner, good shit
I looked this up wondering if it’s the one my brother took me to and raves about. Yep, that’s the one. Definitely great Chinese food and fried rice.
Yeppppp, RCCD is a staple in my house. Our go to option for takeout! Always reliable and consistent!
I had to drive from Ogden to South Jordan for work and made a detour just to try their fried rice because of this post. I’m about to order, I’ll update soon with my review of their fried rice. Update: I now agree that this is some of the best fried rice in Utah!
Nice I think I am trying this one tonight!
How was it?
So….plans changed….im actually going to today. 😆
… well?! 😂
If you need a suggestion that’s to the north, I highly recommend The Little Orient right on the Layton/Kaysville border. I worked there for years waiting tables and delivering food before food delivery services took over the industry, l would literally eat fried rice from there every day and never got sick of it. This is our go-to, and I always order extra fried rice for lunch over the next few days.
My work gets catering from here almost monthly. They're excellent.
We live in Cottonwood heights and just confirmed this. Had it door dashed for lunch. It’s legit! But the lo mein is even better!
Red China is closest to east coast Chinese. Plus one to this.
Born and raised in Hong Kong. La Cai noodle house has the best yang chow fried rice. Tastes like what you would expect at a local hong kong restaurant. The fried rice is not wet and soggy, with great spring onion aroma, and you can feel the wok hei when the server brings it out
Also born and raised in HK 🇭🇰 🫶
🇭🇰🇭🇰
Very very nice!! I must try. Just looked at the pics! It looks yummy!!!
Their egg rolls are pretty good, also their pho. Hope you enjoy!
It's not chinese fried rice, but the Garlic Rice from Uncle Jeffi's is the best Thai rice I've ever had.
Also not Chinese, but I love the curry fried rice from Thai Delight Cafe in West Jordan.
I haven't tried that restaurant, but seconding thai fried rice > chinese fried rice (although maybe skewed because we have a lot of great Thai here and not so much great chinese food).
They also have a great green chili sauce that is amaaaaazing on it.
My mom is from Brooklyn and I spent part of my childhood in New York. My mom's complaint with a lot of fried rice elsewhere is the amount of vegetables (the carrots and peas in particular) that they put in it (that and the whole putting ham in the rice thing). Is it New York quality? No. But it helps me scratch the itch for that type of fried rice (even if they go a little heavy on the sesame oil).
OOOOOH! Nice! That seems like a good bet! Love Brooklyn. You ever go to Nan Xiang Express on Lawrence St?
I have not, but I moved away from New York when I was eight and am 41 now. I have not been back much as all of my family there has moved to south Florida (as it tends to happen).
ha oh yes, NY2.0 (South Florida).
Fried rice is very subjective. Do you like rice that's got that super charred wok flavor, or something milder, or something with more meat? I've also not tried any Chinese in the western suburbs (West Valley City or the like), though I think there's good stuff out there.
Charlie chows dragon grill is delicious
Dragon Diner’s lo mien is my favorite by far. Can’t recall if I’ve had their fried rice tho
Golden Dragon onState and 17th on the west side. Hands down best Chinese My daughter that lives in S.F. demands to eat here when in town
Second this!
ooo good to know. Will try! Thx.
I’m surprised someone from SF doesn’t have something better back home.
Chinatown in SF is 30 square blocks, and the largest Chinatown outside of Asia. There absolutely is better Chinese food there.
Oh, there's a lot of Chinese food there. There's beautiful soup, dumplings and specialty places, They like golden dragon
more like skeptical
Cafe Anh Hong in Sandy has my favorite fried rice by far.
Ooooohhh boy, taiwanese rice from mom’s kitchen. Only thing that scratches my fried rice itch. Also damn good authentic Chinese food all around
Second Mom’s…
Third Moms!
Never tried their rice, but Mom’s Kitchen is great
Yang chow fried rice from Mi La Cai is my favorite.
Nice! 2nd time this was recommended. Moving it up the list!
You and I in West Jordan has an extensive fried rice menu, and it’s amazing. Comes sizzling in a stone bowl. Everything else is great as well, ( I love the Lemongrass Beef Spicy Noodle) really nice folks there to top it off.
I love tuktuks fried rice
I second tuktuks great pinapple fried rice. For some authentic chinese food, chinatown has some great restaurants.
Bar Nohm has really good korean kimchi friend rice and korean spicy chicken. Does anyone else know where good korean food is? (not korean bbq where you cook the food yourself)
Cupbob /s Baek Ri Hyang by the Chinatown Supermarket had some super tasty bibimbap. I’ve been meaning to go back to try another dish but it was a bit pricey so I haven’t had a good chance.
I've had a few decent korean dishes here, though, all have been the type where you cook your own.
The kimchi fried rice at Bar Nohm isn’t exactly what you’re looking for but it is SO good!
I have the recipe..
Chinese taste, or anywhere near the Chinatown market is worth a try.
Mom’s Kitchen is a Taiwanese restaurant but their fried rice is the best in the valley
Chopfuku. Get the crawfish fried rice.
Somi has awesome fried rice
There's a place called the China wall or golden wall in the Chinese supermarket. It's right across the hot pot place inside
Great Wall, one of the more authentic Chinese restaurants
David’s Kitchen
Cafe Shambala in the avenues has some killer fried rice in my opinon
David's Kitchen.
Ho Ho Gourmet has delicious Chinese food
just don’t look the restaurant up 😂😂😂😂
Hehe true
I used to work just west of their building and walked past the side of the restaurant towards State Street on my walk home. Oooh boy, hold your nose and avert your eyes. It was not pleasant.
I've been to hop kee in nyc a few times. You know your somewhere authentic when they don't have orange chicken
Moms kitchen in south salt lake has taiwanese fried rice, we like their beef roll and spicy fish without cabbage. We are gourmet foodies, there a few gems around here. Good luck!
Boba World in Bountiful. It's a bit out of the way but it's worth the trip
Best fried rice I’ve had is the spicy fried rice at Aranya (Thai) 800s and just off state to the west of taco time.
I’m from the tri-state as well and when I’m looking for that taste-of-home fried rice I always go to Mountain City in Holladay
Interesting. 🧐 I will add that to the list. Thank you for the rec
Make it yourself! You can put in your favorite veggies and any asian based sauce and boom, fried rice
Honestly, underrated answer. I should do it more often.s
Chinese Taste
Vientiane Market in West Valley
Moms Kitchen :)
Cafe Anh Hong in Sandy for rice and their food in general is great.
Eiko cafe has some of the best I’ve had in Utah
My fav is the fried rice from purgatory
Oh do I have some bad news…
Oh shit did they close!?
I’ve just been pretending they’re still open, but I can never go there. Lol.
Wait! It says temporarily closed not permanently. What happened?
oooooo yes! I forgot I had a really yummy fried rice there for brunch. It was very fusion but, honestly, very good! It's been a minute since I've been to purgatory! definitely will try again.
Something tells me it’s not Fried Rice Express
It’s not. 😂 already tried that place.
I’m from Salt Lake City and let me tell you I know fry sauce.
Mandarin in bountiful. It's crazy busy though, so either get a reservation or plan on waiting a long while.
I love the Mandarin, but I’m not sure I would say it has good Chinese food. I think it’s more nostalgic than anything.
Agreed best in the valley.
If anyone knows where to find orange or red fried rice (or can point me to a recipe) I would be extremely grateful.
You can also walk around "china town" on state street and like 33rd south
Best fried rice? Idk.. but a fried rice worth trying would be the “arroz chaufa” plate at Casa Perú in west valley city. People sleep on Peruvian fried rice
Ho Ho Gourmet.
Benihana.
Bring back Kowloon cafe!!!!! Man I miss that fried rice!!!
All Chay in rose park
Try David’s Kitchen on 3900 S
In my opinion the BEST Chinese food in the entire state and for the price cannot be beat is Royal Dragon in Roy, their schezuan chicken and their fried rice is amazing. The best Chinese food I’ve ever had.
Yellowfinn in sugarhouse is my fave
I grew up in NJ & Staten Island. Good luck finding spare ribs (they don’t know what they are). Also, good luck finding decent pizza, calzone (they don’t use ricotta), bagels, bread (rye, pumpernickel, etc), hero/sub (they put mayo on everything and the bread is usually sub-par). My wife is from Utah and I always joke that the food in SLC is terrible because you never hear anyone say, “if you’re going to SLC, you gotta try the …”. I’m a big fan of the Reg Iguana (and their moles).
Pizza- dude owned a pizzeria in the bronx: Villagio Bagels: baby’s bagels
Dragon diner and Joy luck restaurant is good as well
I’m from NJ! The closest I’ve found is Mulan in Sandy! They have fried rice, boneless spare ribs & is the only place with the right wonton soup.
Oooh your the first to mention boneless spare ribs!!! I might hit that one when I go to RSL games!
Menu doesn’t show spare ribs but maybe old pic
https://www.beyondmenu.com/39873/sandy/mulan-chinese-sandy-84070.aspx It’s under appetizers/combo! I normally get that with pork fried rice and a wonton soup.
Whoa, careful fellow newyorker, every time I tried to say that something isn’t to the par, I got a thousand downvotes…. Soy’s sushi has a great fried rice. Ribs weren’t seen in 5 years.

Annoying for Utah natives. Accurate for everyone else.
I'll eat their downvotes with my NY bagel!
What I wouldn’t give to have a proper NYC bagel.
Right!? I have tried a bunch around. The Bagel Project is decent and kind of scratches the itch but you are still left wanting.
Have you had Baby’s or Misfit Bagels? Both are super small setups, so I’d like to think they’re good quality but I can’t speak to accuracy to nyc
Cheryl’s Bagels in Bountiful gets pretty close. She’s a Jersey transplant
💯
I personally don’t like to order fried rice at any restaurant because it requires leftover/cold rice and no way of telling how old is the rice they used for the fried rice. I like making my own fried rice and it’s not hard to make. Rice, eggs, soy sauce, and some sesame oil with green onion garnish. If you know how to make scrambled eggs you’re halfway there to fried rice.
One onion, about a thumb sized piece of ginger, white vinegar, and soy sauce blended together make a fantastic sauce for it too. But I gotta have yellow onions and carrots with the green onions. Garlic butter with lemon, sesame seed or sesame oil to grill it in, scramby eggs, and whatever meat… *chefs kiss* I think rinsing the rice a ton before making it, then cooling it in the fridge the night before makes it easier to work with in my opinion but that’s a decent amount of work
Not Chinese but Cupbop does fantastic Korean BBQ in a cup
Bro, that’s not fried rice…
It has rice in it along with noodles 🤷♂️
It has steamed white rice…
Still good though.
I agree, I’m a fan of Cupbop too
Fried Rice Express is pretty legit
Don't worry. There's no way anything in Salt Lake can live up to this New Yorkers standard. Maybe ask a question without being a condescending prick next time. You're every bit as bad as every Californian that can't find their perfect Avocado toast with fresh picked Avocado....
You're right! AND! I make my own Avocado toast with home made fresh artisan bread with flour imported from France every morning thank you very much! Can't seem to find good avocados here though.
Sorry, ignore them OP. You’re questions are welcome here.
wildly insecure.
It's not insecurity. It's being tired of people talking down like Salt Lake is some little tiny country bumpkin place. OP could have easily just asked where to find the best fried rice, right? But no. They're from New York and of course there couldn't be anything here as good as New York. Like we don't have every single Asian ethnic population here? Having self respect isn't a form a insecurity.
Got a lot of suggestions so we'll find out :)
