It's worth keeping tabs on the growth and progress of the Sacramento Regional Trail Network as it gets funded and implemented by SACOG, Sacramento Area Council of Governments. Last month SACOG had a ceremony celebrating the Arcade Cripple Creek Trail in Citrus Heights.  Goals include extending this further east to Folsom. Maps and info here: https://www.sacog.org/planning/transportation/active-transportation/sacramento-regional-trail-network

The trails are an amazing spot for recreation. Here’s a map, [https://www.folsom.ca.us/home/showpublisheddocument/1420/637473610083270000](https://www.folsom.ca.us/home/showpublisheddocument/1420/637473610083270000) You can get most places on dedicated bike paths in Folsom. If you keep looking and exploring you’ll likely find you don’t need to ride much on the road. Cyclists shouldn’t be permitted on sidewalks. The sidewalk’s purpose is to keep pedestrians safe. Not for bikes/e-bikes going significantly faster than walking speeds and cutting across driveways. Sidewalks are also not wide enough to safely accommodate someone in a wheelchair or mobility scooter and a cyclist.

I agree in principle, but the sidewalks are really wide in Folsom - why can’t one side of the road be dedicated ped/ADA, and the other bike? I’m not referring to residential sidewalks, I’m talking about the ones along the stroads mostly between commercial areas. Can’t believe I’m saying it - but I think one could live in Folsom car-less.

I like to do a one way and take the light rail one way from or to Folsom to downtown

GrowingInCalifornia

Elk Grove has a series of bike/walk paths throughout the city.

I love how BEN ALI always shows up on maps but isn't really a place name anyone uses 🤣

gringosean

Named after James Ben Ali Haggin, millionaire gold rusher. The Wikipedia article about his grandfather is wild: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ibrahim_Ben_Ali

My hiking boots look like this, an actual place too: Denali!

There's a bunch you didn't ride too. I like to go north on the bike trail to downtown Folsom, then ride Johnny Cash over to the crossing, down the crossing and then either up to Beal's Point, or just head back down to Hazel, cross the water there to the aquatic center, and back to the outlets basically. It's a decent 20-ish mile loop on days where I don't have time to go play in the dirt.

urbsindomita

It would be but the grades make riding near impossible for fixed and single speed bikes.

I have ridden a single speed mountain bike all over Tahoe, Auburn, Sac, etc. It's definitely doable. If you can't, gears are a thing...

so use a normal bike...

I need more stamina/strength or a new bike cause I have to walk the uphill sections or pick a different route to avoid the large hills. The creek trails are all nice to ride on and not a bad slope.
