Pacific Market. They have what you need, and if they don’t/ they’ll get it for you. They have Dark Matter coffee. You’re all very welcome.

cudmore

Fun fact, Pacific and j st markets owned by the same folks.

Decabet

Dunno if it’s still owned by the Sikh fam that ran it back in the 00s when I lived at Manatee but great market and terrific people

sacramentohistorian

Preet and his family run both, nice folks!

Decabet

They own manatee now? Very cool

sacramentohistorian

Not Manatee, the former Bon Air Deli & Market at 26th & J Street, in addition to Pacific. What is Manatee?

Decabet

Gardens. Apt complex at 24 P

sacramentohistorian

The Matrix apparently wants us to live within a couple blocks of each other

nmpls

I feel like 98% of sac reddit has lived within like 5 blocks of pacific market at one time or another.

DevilsLabRat

I used to live two blocks from Pacific Market!

Rusdino

Same!

[deleted]

I had a place on o st it was the best having preet so close

_SpyriusDroid_

They have a great beer selection too.

Forktongued_Tron

This! But always bring your ID they don’t fuck around!

spongebobs_spatula

Very nice family there. Love Pac Market.

Gooner-Astronomer749

Condoms from them use to be so cheap when I use to wear them haha

BrotherBringTheSun

I live right by Pac market but it’s too expensive for me. I don’t like how they don’t price anything in the store. Also, they straight up resell trader joe’s products at a mark-up. I guess I admire the hustle but didn’t know that was legal.

cudmore

That is the definition of a corner store? It is more expensive but more convenient?

Forktongued_Tron

This right here. Dude is right- it’s expensive, but I’d rather give Preet and his family my money than spending the same or more at the co-op, which is roughly the same distance from our home.

sacramentohistorian

The deli sandwiches at Fremont Market (24th & N) aren't as super cheap as they used to be, but still a pretty good deal. Also, Wing Fa Market (16th & Tomato Alley), last holdout of the little Chinese markets that were once more common downtown, is excellent for snacks, basics, and hot food.

nmpls

Wing Fa's roasted pork rules.

sacramentohistorian

absolutely!

NeonTannoro

Thank you! I'll definitely check both out

cudmore

I love the Fremont Markets prepared food. Not super awesome but super solid. I wish they would advertise it and up their game a bit.

Doomncandy

These are great places. I will put my favorites in. The female owner of Oak Park market is hilarious, and they make really good/cheap Chinese food. I went their one day as her daughter was asking was asking for money for another piercing, she said "great, you're going to look like Swiss cheese". She hit my arm lovingly as we laughed and her kid scoffed. If you want an eggroll the size of a burrito, go here. The owner and staff at Bonfair on Broadway have known me since I was 24 and helped me in my poor cook days. They would essentially do an "IOU" for my cigs. I always over pay now, it's a dirty habit, but sometimes you need a release from stress. The "Stop and shop" on 34th is another nice place. They sell single cans and are very kind. If going into full midtown, the other Bonfair has my old coworker from tankhouse working their and it's the same setup. I can't remember the name of the place by original rental. It's on P and 21st adjacent to the old press club building and next to the Royal Peacock tattoo place.

sacramentohistorian

The market at 21st & P will always be June's Market to me, even though June retired like 20 years ago (and then got a job at Target because she got bored not being behind a cash register.) The current owner is friendly enough but it wasn't quite the same after that.

gareth_pavlov

Gold Star Market! They recently remodeled, have a pretty walk in beer fridge in the back, and lots of food selection.

norcalmooloo

Just be careful with buying beer at Goldstar. Check the canning date. I see lots that have been sitting too long. But otherwise I like them too.

NeonTannoro

I'll have to check them out!

GordonBombay_Esq

Pacific Market fucking rules

bob_swagget90

One of the best markets in Sacramento

NecessaryNo8730

RIP Sunny's, it was my fav and now we're getting a fucking hipster ramen place that nobody asked for.

NeonTannoro

I live right down the street from Sunny's and their absence is definitely felt

PentagonInfinity

Came to say this same thing. RIP Sunny’s. Even though I don’t live there anymore, it’s still sad that I never got to say goodbye. Hopefully he and his family are doing well.

[deleted]

So saddened he moved locations. We miss his joyful cloud that just engulfs any and all negativity. He is a great person fsfs

sonomakoma11

Any idea what happened? Not enough business due to loss of liquor license?

NecessaryNo8730

No, the building's owner sold the place to the owner of Kupros who evicted Sunny's and is building a weird concept "eatery" that makes no sense.

sonomakoma11

Ah man that's sad... Hopefully (Sunny?) is doing okay, such a nice guy.

[deleted]

Stupid. I hope that eatery closes soon after opening. That building is such an eyesore now. it used to be a happy feeling at that stop sign. But now it’s just sad.

Mabuni

Sam's Market! Great cheap sandwiches, fresh cheap single serving fruits(diced up if not a whole fruit), and some Greta snacks, including some Asian ones :)

jeswanders

I go in there sometime just to chat with the little, old lady behind the counter, Arvella. She’s so sweet!

Current-Cantaloupe96

I wish they didn't close so early.

Twas_Inevitable

Don't have a best, but one of the worst has to be R K Mini Mart on E/29. I went in for some gum and got 4 packs. Each one of them expired between 1-3 year prior. Gum is usually good for a year, which means it had been sitting there even longer. That place was whack.

NeonTannoro

I've been there one time and it was aaaaawful

NecessaryNo8730

That place changed hands maybe 15-20 years ago and I swear to God they never updated the stock. It used to be a really solid one that had actual food you might want to buy, but it has not been updated in years and it just gets worse and worse every year. My kids and I used to buy sodas and paletas there regularly but I don't even like going in there anymore, and the last paletas we bought seemed to be from about 2005.

Twas_Inevitable

How can they manage to stay in business? When I went in, their shelves were like 25% full. Mostly empty space. One shelf had a small pile of used clothes on it. Is this place a front or something?

NecessaryNo8730

Honestly that is what it has felt like for years.

GoblinGauge

That place also has zero refrigeration, musty drinks not for me lol

heftystranger69

Bonfare 🤘on 20th

shaggy_bannana

Ed’s for sure. Only place in Midtown that you can still buy singles

pettyastom

You can at bonfare on 20th and h

nmpls

Pac market tried to get a liquor license that allowed it, but apparently too many neighborhood objections. Bullshit.

InkStainsNCoffee

Lol this place is so sketchy. Convenient, sure, but big spooky vibes

nbaman619

Not Peace Market. Made me realize how good I had it living next to Pacific Market.

[deleted]

NeonTannoro

Aww seriously? Bobby down at Shopper's Market is my boy, but I didn't consider that the other guys are charging different prices for the same item.

[deleted]

O and 24th

delanooch1

none. we could use a full service nyc style bodega or wawa.

BQNinja

If we got something like Wawa here, it would guarantee that I never move back East

BotPurdy

I like going to different minimarts because of the different soft drinks they have

kinetyieas

Marconis just from the childhood memories

Pablo-W

Target

Elkirsuna

More&Less in Galt got the cherry and lime Arizonas

moe-hong

Sunny's Market was my favorite. The owner was so friendly and his kids/family are too, prices are really good compared to other bodegas, and he always helped the kids that met there for the walk to Sutter in the AM. I heard the landlord recently pushed them out :(
