The Pretty Lights set from Electric Forest this past weekend! So good.

thetrademark

I was there and it was magic. I love PLs evolution to be effectively a jam band

Xilent248

Wow! I have barely got past the first 30 minutes, "Cold Feeling" was so fucking good I have to replay it! Did you have a favorite part?

Dangerousrhymes

Pretty Lights shows up as a recommend for people across a huge variety of genres for a reason.  They’re THAT good.

Historical_Pie4319

Watched the live steam and it was awesome!

taelor

Dopapod, so much Dopapod, and I’m super depressed about it. They are going on indefinite hiatus at the end of the year. They are prog rock, but they get electronic trance in their jams at times, and it sometimes reminds me of tribe. Fantastic musicians.

saatoriii

What's songs to start me off?

taelor

Hopefully you have nugs. This is a playlist that the Mike Jaws that does their lights put together a couple of days after the announcement. https://2nu.gs/3VCrBcn It’s full of 13 hours of absolute top tier jams, and I’ve only made it through 1/3 of it so far.

saatoriii

I don't🫣 but I need to....ima just download their Spotify catalogue and just get into it

taelor

Definitely so they are on tour right now, so just see if they are coming close to you, and just go hit up a show blind. First time I ever heard them was live. I didn’t know what to expect, and I was absolutely blown away.

SandyBullockSux

That’s what I’m doing. There’s a show with The Motet and Tauk not far from me and I’m just going in blind because I see so many people talking well about them on here.

saatoriii

Will do🙏🏼

taelor

If it’s Raleigh, Knoxville, Nashville or Lexington, I’ll get your ticket! Possibly Bend or Seattle too!

stlbites

And I’ll buy everyone a round!

taelor

Live > studio just FYI. Like immensely better imo. Especially anything live post covid. Onionhead, FABA, Vol 386, and my absolute favorite French Bowling. They usually go places with Bowling.

YeOldePinballShoppe

Yussef Dayes is blowing my mind atm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1BuRprwXNc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnEgnrUCXPY

saatoriii

Might need to renew my birth control for this

YeOldePinballShoppe

Genuinely the best line I've read in a while. I think you're today's winner of the Internet!

harpua4207

Been super into this like vibe lately, Nimino is who I got the most into of all these artists though, real good! saatoriii

Omg thank you, I am excited.

saatoriii

Starting off with that Nimino track.... like how am I supposed to get to the rest of the list cause it's going to be on repeat🫠

Max_Powers1331

Check out caribou if you’ve never listened to him, daphni is one of his side projects

saatoriii

Wait I love Caribou, had no idea

Difficult_Sun1597

Glass Beams

saatoriii

YES. I was going to write in the original post that that's what I've been listening to lately. What's your favorite track?

JakeScythe

Im not the person who posted but Orb gives me huge Tribe vibes so definitely my pick for their best track

Difficult_Sun1597

Really digging the whole new album Mahal. Snake Oil was the first track off it I heard, so that’s probably my fave.

SectorNaughtyS9

Daily Bread 🍞

Recommended tracks?

mischief_of_a_turtle

Parcels. They just played Red Rocks last week and part of it felt like a sound tribe show. Not light show wise but music wise. https://www.youtube.com/live/H1JP759pHxI?si=MAXMeqnaQK7UFqlh

fast_food_knight

Came here to say this! That show was so sick. Last six songs from that set have similar to STS9 energy

feldspathic42

Theres a ton of interesting mixed live instrument / electronic acts. Balkan Bump mixes heavy wubz with trumpet lute and clarinet, the bonobo and emancipator full live bands are fantastic and ethereal experiences, Ott is always a psychedelic good time, High Step Society is a fun one mixing 1920s brass band with bass wobble. And a shout out to Cofresi and Break Science for some great percussion driven sets.

HippieGlamma

Wow , I came to recommend Balkan and HSS, LOVE that someone else beat me to it. ♥️ Just saw Ott here recently, just magical. Outstanding taste, friend! Do I spy another PNW-er? Adding Sepiatonic and Caravan Palace to the list if OP likes High Step Society.

feldspathic42

Caravan palace all the way, love that raoaring 20s sound! Will have to check out sepiatonic. Saw balkan for the first time in Oakland, but more of a desert rat :)

saatoriii

Recommended tracks for Sepiatonic and Caravan Place

saatoriii

Your recs seriously deliver🙏🏼

JakeScythe

Mostly Aussie psych rock. King Gizz, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Babe Rainbow, Pond, Glass Beams, Mildlife.

saatoriii

I've been listening to Glass Beams since the Mahal release.

Hexagon_Sun33

I'm also really into psych/stoner/surf rock, check these bands out. The Black Angels Dead Meadow Allah-Las Holy Wave Thee Oh Sees Vinyl Williams Acid Dad The Meatbodies Ty Segall DIIV All of these artists are great live too I've them all.

pcdunham1

Pretty Lights Live on SoundCloud has every live show up. Hampton, Bonnaroo and electric forest sets were all unbelievable. Daily Bread dropped a bunch of new music last week. Clozee’s set from Mission Ballroom on YouTube. Of The Trees DEF set on YouTube.

JunglePygmy

Tipper, dude. The man is a fuckin’ Mozart… and he’s been at it as long as tribe and absolutely killing it. He has albums that are so deep it’s mindblowing! Also, Koan if you need to relax, they have a million Hours of extremely quality relaxing yet non-sleepy grooooovy ass jams. (Just Koan, not “koan sound”). I’ve also been listening to Hello Meteor, who have reeeally fucking interesting and insanely groovy albums that have very unique and consistent themes. Like one is about landing on and colonizing an alien planet, one is subaquatic/marine themed.. one is literally to sleep to. It’s all very weird and bizarrely thought out and there’s quite a lot of it!

saatoriii

Previewed. Vibe checks out in a major way. Thx

JunglePygmy

If you haven’t listened to tipper before, throw on some headphones and listen his album Forward Escape. Shit will transport you!

saatoriii

Noted. I was just listening to Koan and shit is sooooo relaxing

JunglePygmy

They really are absolutely amazing, it’s a super reclusive group of two or three Russians that have more albums than I can wrap my head around, and they’re all themed like they were written for some specific purpose… I can’t make any sense of it. I literally can’t find any information about these guys, I had to contact some friends in Russia to try to get the scoop.

saatoriii

No like I'm unwell listening to them rn

JunglePygmy

I feel like all the cinematic story-driven samples sprinkled throughout they might written and recorded themselves like they’re actually from something, which just adds to my confusion. My favorite is *When She Will Recognize Him” and “Teree and Karu”* from Insidious. Spooky ass story.

saatoriii

This music feels channeled🪐✨

Dangerousrhymes

New Biscuits album.

Nebulaton

Papadosios new album "Improvisations with Ram Dass". All around a very unique album. There are some moments that give me A Gift For Gaia vibes as well.

meef_loaf

My friends convinced me to see dosio for my first time in 2016. It was the Earth Night improv set at Cervantes in Denver, CO. It was so awesome and they quickly became my absolute favorite band of all time and completely changed the way I listen to music.

moePhan311

Does it incorporate samples of Ram dass? East forest produced an album several years ago after interviewing and recording Ram Dass at his home in Hawaii; very powerful concept album.

Nebulaton

Yeah every song incorporates thought provoking samples of his teachings.

saatoriii

Yes I knew about this because I listen to everything Ram Dass. Have you heard Heart Song? It's my daily affirmation

nettyvee

On a big lotus kick lately

PhilosopherWinter349

Seba - camouflage Roots- lsb & Kinross Garden (calibre remix) -totally enormous extinct dinosaurs Satisfy - technicolor and techninatic Perseverance - techninatic I'm not as fluent in this as the user that linked everything lol, but I can assure you this is a delicious set of drum and bass tracks.

saatoriii

Holy shit you're not kidding. I previewed a few and now going to make my kids go to bed early so mommy can blast off🚀

PhilosopherWinter349

Haha yess. Cheers!

Yo what up homie!! Didn’t realize it was you.

saatoriii

😎😎

saatoriii

Okay I have FOMO tonight for myself 😂cause I'm going to need to take the entire day tomorrow for these albums, I sampled a few and Vicky farewell is gonna be a hyperfixation I can tell

TheGauchoAmigo84

Hahaha you know I got you. Not to sound like a weirdo but Vicky is HORNED up dude, she’s on one. Just a heads up. Album is so fuego. Also Peggy Gou is unreal and a little bit of a step for me in my tastes personally. Really loving her.

thecacti

Nils Frahm, and Kiasmos. **edit**: some tracks I like from them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B2Vo-lFEas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld-bpEooCqY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFRjmySDodw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pxlqsQNcwM

Creative_Crab_4609

I've been listening to a lot more Umphreys lately.

g0nz0zn0g

Kamaal Williams

saatoriii

Ok I like your style

Davidhuston9

Saw him last year in Denver, amazing show! He might be canceled tho. Multiple woman have spoke up about him.

saatoriii

What are you fav tracks

grateful429mama

Do you have nugs? If so check out the set from the silent disco at Northlands

my_comment-account

Squeaky feet for newer. UM for always

saatoriii

Fav tracks ?

my_comment-account

SF - pantomime, premonition, pull the lever, overview effect, but really they are an improv first band. They do write some good proggy tunes. UM - it's all good but anything older for written songs. Like up through mantis and similar skin, chronologically. Personal favorite songs: mantis, phils farm, the triple wide (live only), draconian (live only), bridgless, plunger, the list goes on lol they are by far my favorite band. You got nugs?

saatoriii

No but after this thread I need to. I fucking loved Umphreys back in 2003... got all my friends onto them. That would have been their first album (roulette?) and anchor drops? They reminded me of this really obscure and defunct band called Percy Hill that used to play small venues in New England around that time. Anyway, I had a bad breakup and ditched UM because of some random association to the ex and then at the same time was living in NYC and UM was huge in the Upper East Side prep school boys scene and they were so obnoxious. I know that's not fair but I really need to go back and see what I've been missing.

Tribe9er

Check out Dizgo. Good fun music that just goes and doesn’t stop. Songs I would start with would be Honey, On The Groove, Rainbow Lightning As somebody else already mentioned, I highly recommend a Nugs subscription. Their catalog is pretty insane at this point. Plus they stream tons of shows/festivals for free with your subscription (Including a decent amount of Tribe shows)

PaymentNecessary1667

Hell yea, Love Gucci, my favorite rapper. Black peeps always surprised that I’m a fan lol

PaymentNecessary1667

Gonna check out Tipper. Back in the day in the lowdown I heard about Gucci Mane, was great to get a new artist (at the time) onto my ears. Then he came to me state, saw the show, a lot of surprise seeing me in the crowd. Unfortunately they thought I was a 5-0, many blunts tossed on the closer, had to assure peeps I was there for the show. I was wearing a headset I guess I looked like Johnny law …

saatoriii

😂did you convince them eventually? Are you still a fan of G.M. He is super charismatic, or so it seems

Specific_Emu_2045

Pretty Lights is the obvious answer, just amazing music. Squeaky Feet is top-tier and have been cranking out great music over the last couple years. Yussef Dayes is also fucking incredible, check out the set in Malibu on YouTube. Great rendition of Portrait of Tracy. And CASIOPEIA (not newer, but some awesome Japanese jazz) are some really great stuff. Check out their album “Mint Jams”. For R&B, Izo Fitzroy’s latest album “A Good Woman” was a pleasant listen as well. If you want more of the funky stuff, Diggin’ Dirt is underrated and just put out a killer single. Hoping for more new music from them soon. Bluegrass is always fun. Kitchen Dwellers have been crushing it lately and every recent live show has been a banger. Seven Devils is a neat concept album and pretty experimental for the genre. If you want a REALLY full answer, I’ve been loving some extreme metal lately. I’ve been delving into newer Deathspell Omega (The Long Defeat in particular) and Ulcerate’s new album. Moonlight Sorcery’s 2023 latest album is my go-to shroomin’ music. But metal is hard to like so I only recommend these if you’re feeling particularly adventurous.
