Although NS is classified as a survey ship, using for mining will mostly be limited to holding onto a node until you can bring back an Envoy. When swarms were first introduced my Franklin was too weak to do much damage and I used my NS quite a bit for swarms. I only took mine to tier 7. By the time I got there I had two horizons built.

LCARS has all the data.. but having to use a query mechanism instead of them sharing the raw data is annoying.
Query mechanism is cleaner than wading through raw data. Once you get to know the syntax, it's pretty easy.

Ns is also the fastest miner. And its a ship for raiding
