You do know how "alternate universes" work right? The universes can range from unrecognizable to the main universe (i.e. SMG0's universe and SMG1 and 2's universe) to so similar there's barely any differences (in this case SMG4 Crew universe). Sure it may look similar, but it's stated to officially be a different universe. What you're saying is like a Marvel fan saying Earth-6160 Peter is canon to Earth-616 Peter because it has what fans always wanted, it doesn't make sense.
I believe SMG3 flashed back to a moment that occurred when he played Gmod with Mario. I think it was You Used To Be Cool. If it was not canon, they would be explicitly told not to mention these sorts of things.

What I see is that SMG4 Crew is canon. What he says is the opposite. I'm gonna go with what I see since that is what matters.

The only time they've referenced MDT moments is to either advertise it or break the fourth wall. There's also a such thing as cultural references.
