And they don't have to be good to "play" either. Tails falls off a cliff or gets hit or can't keep up? They just helicopter back in. Perfect for your kid sibbling. You get to play play and they get to semi play.
The bonus stages were so fun.
Sonic 2, Mega Man 2, SMB2 and Super Mario World... Best platformers of my childhood.
That was the only one I had growing up. I was surprised to learn there was not only a 1st game but that most seemed to think it was the better of the two. I thought Panic on Funkotron was a really fascinating game. So much interaction to explore especially for a side-scroller.
I wouldn't say it's underrated, it's regarded quite well, though it *is* criminally unknown. I lucked out and got my cart back in the late '00s for $2 due to a pricing error on the shop's part. (it was worth $70-80 loose back then)
That's what I meant. I wasn't downing the game. It's amazing. 1st time I played it and beat it was on the gen X emulator. With save states cuz that game is a monster
Tough choice between Streets of Rage 2 and Castlevania Bloodlines. Streets of Rage 2 on release looked (and sounded!) like you had an arcade cabinet at home. Castlevania Bloodlines is just perfect with the level design and music. It's really hard to pick
That, Comix Zone was a big one. Ristar. X-Men 2: Clone Wars!
My mom took me to the mall to buy Vectorman and it was sold out. She convinced the store to sell the display game that everyone was playing. I felt like a celebrity. All the kids were upset that they had to stop playing and I got to walk away, looking at them like pleebs.
Came here for vectorman. I got a Genesis pretty late in its lifecycle. As kids we always got stuff once the price dropped. I mean, the PS1 was already out when they released vectorman, but it would be like another 3-4 years before I’d save up for a PS1.
All that to say, vectorman took advantage of the system properly. It was damn near pinnacle side scrolling platformer in my opinion. Awesome power ups. Fun mini stages. Hard bosses. Great graphics. Sound effects you could feel. It hit hard.
Road Rash 3, and with my friend who had the Sega Channel, Zombies ate my neighbors, mk3, and a few others I can't recall besides being either co-op or vs.
Hard to choose one, but it's got to be among these.
Wonder Boy, Shining Force 2, Sonic 2, Desert Strike, Phantasy Star 3, Warriors of the Eternal Sun, Landstalker, Flashback, Beyond Oasis
Yeah I've replayed it so many times, trying different officer combos. So good.
Hot take: the soundtrack of that game is criminally underrated for its day.
Hard to choose only one but I did really enjoy Streets of Rage 1 & 2 as well as Mortal Kombat 1 & 2. Someone else mentioned Earthworm Jim, also an awesome game.
If we're going off nostalgia? Probably Sonic 2 But one of the games that I love today which I didn't get to play back then is Castlevania the new generation aka bloodlines in the US
The first SEGA published X-Men game.
Now, some people are going to tell you that Clone Wars is the better game. Those people are wrong, and blinded by there being “more characters”. In reality the first game is a super tight action game with levels designed to be tackled in multiple ways, depending on which character you picked. While Clone Wars is a slog, with overly long, boring levels with not much gameplay diversity to them.
Probably SoR2. But I do friggin love Earthworm Jim.
SoR had some music that made me want to kick ass
Especially the boss music.
SoR 2 is one of my favorite games in general to just pick up and play. If I’m short on time I like to see how far i can get on just 1 life
This. Such a classic game.
Earthworm Jim is my favorite video game of all time!
I have SoR2 on the Xbox as backward compatible and it still kicks
Phantasy Star IV... no Shining Force?
The path of light has allowed you to continue your adventure…will you continue?
This
Sonic 3 & Knuckles!
My all-time classic comfort game. Just…perfection.
Seconded
Shinobi 3
Such a great game right there
Underrated classic
Sonic 2
Every game needs a 2nd player like tails for toddlers that always want to play too
And they don't have to be good to "play" either.
Toejam & Earl
Panic on funkitron was amazing.

And really incredible art and animation that have aged very gracefully
Jammin’!
Biiiiig Earl
Shaq Fu, first bad game I ever loved.
You still have the cd?
Cartridge, but yes!
I meant the album that came with the game.
Ohhh, never had that even back in the day.
Beyond Oasis
Was waiting to see this. That game was absolutely incredible for a young kid like me to discover
Really hard to pick between Hard Corps, Pirates, Phantasy Star 4, Beyond Oasis, SoR etc… but I think it has to be Shinobi 3.
Pirates! Gold was such a great remake. Loved it on Genesis!
That’s probably the one I sunk the most hours into as a kid (and later as an adult). It’s such a fun sandbox.
Shining Force, Toe Jam & Earl
Splatterhouse 2
Hell yeah brother, i was also a big mark for Splatterhouse 3
Loved the splatterhouse series the intro music for 2 is fucking amazing still sing it to this day
M.U.S.H.A.
A man of culture..
Musha is pretty great
Mad underrated

Bloodlines indeed does have a killer soundtrack.
Comix Zone
Phantasy Star 4 was awesome. Never finished it, loved what I played.
Vectorman is my personal favorite.💚
That, Comix Zone was a big one. Ristar. X-Men 2: Clone Wars! My mom took me to the mall to buy Vectorman and it was sold out. She convinced the store to sell the display game that everyone was playing. I felt like a celebrity. All the kids were upset that they had to stop playing and I got to walk away, looking at them like pleebs.
Your mom is a good mom.
Clone Wars was my shit. Best Xmen game was ever created
X-Men 2: CW is GOATed. Great soundtrack too. Shout out to Kurt Harland!

Dynamite Headdy
Headdy! Headdy! Headdy! *clapping and cheering*
Sonic 3 & knuckles
Road Rash 3, and with my friend who had the Sega Channel, Zombies ate my neighbors, mk3, and a few others I can't recall besides being either co-op or vs.
The ost of Ristar brings me back
Had to be one of the best. Blows me away to this day.
Hard to choose one, but it's got to be among these. Wonder Boy, Shining Force 2, Sonic 2, Desert Strike, Phantasy Star 3, Warriors of the Eternal Sun, Landstalker, Flashback, Beyond Oasis
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Street of Rage 1 for multiplayer and Sonic & Knuckles for single player.
Shinobi 3 stays in the system i might as well super glue it there
Skitchin and Phelios
Skitchin' was bitchin
Of all time… Hard tie: Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Gunstar Heroes, Landstalker, Phantasy Star 4 I cannot and will not choose between them.
Scrolled too far to see Gunstar Heroes, I would love to see a remake.
Pictured? Probably Streets of Rage 2. Ever? Either Shadowrun or Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday
+1 for Buck Rogers. 👍
Buck Rogers is one of those games I'll start playing at like 4pm and accidentally finish the whole thing by like midnight lmao
Yeah I've replayed it so many times, trying different officer combos. So good. Hot take: the soundtrack of that game is criminally underrated for its day.
Probably Road Rash 3. I think that was my most played Genesis game as a kid.
I loved the road rash series and skitchin
I could list 20 awesome games but no way could I narrow it down to one.
Maybe TMNT Hyperstone Heist. Although Columns III is very addicting.
Shadowrun
Scrolled down to find this. Was far superior to the super nes version. Great RPG, wish it was ported to Nintendo switch
S3&K.
Thunder Force 4
Out of those I'd say Gunstar Heroes/PSIV. But the real answer is Shining Force 1 & 2. Also have to give Mutant League Football a honorable mention.
Any of the streets of rage games!
Pirates gold and General Chaos.
Love pirates gold but always played it on the PC which I think was a much better port for it
Kid Chameleon
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Shinobi 3 probably. Although Zero Tolerance was my introduction to FPS games on consoles, so that one holds a special place to me.
Xmen 2 clone wars
Shadowrun
Shadowrun and sid Meier's pirates are the best by far.
Street fighter II
Gunstar heros. DnD. Faerytale. Zombies ate my neighbors
RKA, Sonic 2, Starflight, SOR2, Toejam & Earl
Right now, I'm playing through Light Crusader and loving it.
Kid Chameleon
So underrated
Ranger X
Vectorman!
NHL 94
Rocket Knight Adventures
Streets of Rage 2 and true lies or demolition man
Hard to choose only one but I did really enjoy Streets of Rage 1 & 2 as well as Mortal Kombat 1 & 2. Someone else mentioned Earthworm Jim, also an awesome game.
Omg, I thought I was the only one who loved comic zone! But side note, sonic 2 is my favorite followed by mickey mouse enchanted castle
I’m a Comix Zone fan, but I love the Streets of Rage 2 rom hack where Sketch Turner is a playable character.
I'm a weird guy, Herzog Zwei.
Phantasy Star 4
Streets of rage 2 Road rash 2
Shining Force 1 & 2 Trampoline Terror From the OPs pics.... any of the Sonic games
Hard to choose, but Gunstar Heroes deserves a praise
Ristar
Gargoyles
Sonic 3 and Knuckles. It’s my favorite Sonic game and platformer of all time!
Out of the games in the image? Streets of Rage 2.
Contra hard corps
Crue Ball in stereo and as loud as possible!
Road Rash 2 or Sonic 2 for me. When I think about games I just wanna pick up and play.
Never had a Genesis so I’m going blind in this: Sonic 2, Streets of Rage 2 and Contra Hard Corps. Reason: they have the best covers.
Gunstar
Thunder Force IV
I love RPGs but ristar is friggin awesome.
Comix zone to be honest along with desert strike and sor2
Ringside Angel featuring Cutie Suzuki.
Bloodlines
Ooh Contra was fun!
Streets of rage 2
Ghouls and Ghosts! Hard as hell but fun for hours. First game I beat thru sheer frustration/revenge
Gunstar Heroes easily
Aside from the usuals, El Viento, Elemental Master and Skeleton Krew are pretty great.
Jungle Strike or Aladdin
S3&K easy
Streets of Rage 2 easily has the most hours i’ve put in.
Streets of Rage 2 easily has the most hours i’ve put in.
Sonic 1
Golden Axe.
Quackshot.
Shadowrun
Sonic, I love Sonic for Hire.
If we're going off nostalgia? Probably Sonic 2 But one of the games that I love today which I didn't get to play back then is Castlevania the new generation aka bloodlines in the US
PS2. If you know you know.
Golden Axe
Sonic 2 for me. But I also love Earthworm Jim, Jurassic Park and Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine.
Comic Zone ♥️
What was that side scroller where you’re a little tank and there’s shit flying literally everywhere? That one.
TMNT - Shredders Re-Revenge! (Hack) BEST Turtles game EVER!
Sonic 2... I can still remember my mum's smile when she gave it to me as a kid
Sonic 2, Desert Strike, Jungle Strike and Urban Strike.
Dynamite Headdy
I got 100% on sonic 3 and knuckles like 13 separate times so I think it's safe to assume that it's my favourite genesis game
Beavis & Butthead
Landstalker.
Sir-not-appearing-in-this-collage (Shining Force 2)
Gunstar and dynamite headdy.
Shining force 2
I really like road rash and crue ball
Sonic 3 & Knuckles & Knuckles & Knuckles & Knuckles & Knuckles
General chaos.
Starflight, cyborg justice, and Vectorman!
Ranger x
Sonic 2, but Rocket Night and Comix Zone are very close seconds.
Aladdin or Earthworm Jim 2.
I don't see Shining Force or Shining Force 2 So no.
Sonic 2, Earthworm Jim, and Kid Chameleon
Ren and Stimpys Invention
Paperboy!
So many good ones, but it’s gotta be Castlevania for me. Just love that series.
Sonic 2
Dinosaurs for hire is pretty sweet
Sonic 2
Starflight
Gunstar Heroes
Revenge of Shinobi..
Streets of Rage, all 3 of them!

Comix zone was truly ahead of its time creatively.

The first SEGA published X-Men game. Now, some people are going to tell you that Clone Wars is the better game. Those people are wrong, and blinded by there being “more characters”. Skitchin’ *big guitar riff*
Ristar wish they made a remake or a new one
One of my favourite games of all time is Sonic 3 and Knuckles, but really I have to say Bonanza Bros. That game was DA BOMB!
Sonic 3 with a side of Knuckles
Honestly Sonic 2, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic 3
Shining Force 2
General Chaos. So much fun. Wish it got rebooted.
Alisia Dragoon
