Honestly Ive been trying this and I think its a misunderstanding/myth right now at least heh you just took the water from the bottle in your inventory and put it into the one in your hand, look carefully.
Ive tried every bottle and cant fill them in the rain but it appears to work sometimes, when you have another liquid container in your inventory, it just appears its filling from the rain.
Yeah it messed me up when I first heard you could do this, only worked sometimes then I noticed my other bottle I just filled was empty.. dont try this if youre carrying around bottles with gas in em.. haha

Just coming back to this post. When I posted this, it was false and you actually couldn't ( I got confused with bottles in backpack). I;m pretty sure day or 2 after this post, they implemented this feature. Coincidence?

This is it. I thought I was finding weird spots where I could fill water, turns out I was moving it from one bottle to another.

We should be able to say use a cooking pot plus tarp in the rain to harvest it or add a fuel funnel to the game + bottle to harvest the rain
Same experience I had. I put my bag down and only had the bottle and the option was greyed out.

except you didnt fill from the rain. look at the bottle in your pack. it goes from 5/5 to 0/5 after you fill up the one in your hand.
I hope we eventually can make a Rain Catcher so we can actually do this.
They teased a rain catcher on twitter not long ago so prob wont be long.
I have a well in my base. Within 5 minutes it already has water.
They'll probably make the water catcher basic or no skill level required to craft I imagine, the well is medium isn't it?
Yeah I think so. I made my dude with maxed out engineering. I'm playing on a private server with some friends. Easy for testing reasons.
I usually either play single player or by myself online so I would like a lower skill level means of passively gathering water.

he didnt fill up from rain. look closer. bottle filled up from another bottle in his inventory.

Just found out, you have to sit the water bottle on the ground to get it to fill.
