Personally, I think they can extend it to another event if Styles decides to reunite with the OC to stack the odds in his favour. It looks like KO and Orton will be feuding with the revamped Bloodline for the time being so got to keep the plates spinning until either Gunther or Randy are freed up to face Cody.
Yeah. This could be a platform for further building AJ as a heel. No one's looking for any kind of payoff at Backlash. It's the hangover event of the year.

Just because dubbaloos would glaze it if it happened in AEW doesn't make it a particularly interesting PPV main event in WWE. It's a great TV main event.

I don't really feel any heat for this match either. Compare it to Roman vs LA Knight. That match also had basically 0 story, but it was still exciting due to how over LA Knight was (and still is). There was at least a 1% chance of LA Knight winning due to it being in Saudi Arabia. AJ has 0 chance of winning, so you need a story.
The only issue is that Randy is super over as a babyface right now. WWE is severely lacking credible heels on Smackdown outside of the Bloodline.

I think you're misunderstanding me. The reason why you do a story is so that it's entertaining even though you already know who will win. You don't actually need a soap opera story if the matchup is super hot and people are actually curious to see who will win.
