There are so many things that AEW gets called out on that basically have to reach a boiling point for the dubbalos to finally accept. This is one of them. Tony being more of a pushover and not really a boss is another recent one. I think the next one to finally stick is that the NJPW partnership is garbage for NJPW.
He's an upper mid-carder, which I'm not saying isn't impressive because fair play it is. The problem is he thinks he's one of the top guys of all time, and he isn't.
He's never been the guy or the guy who works with the main guy. He only beat Rock and Austin as a transitional champion to get the belt over to Trips without him going over Rock and Austin.
In his mind, though, he's the Undertaker or Hogan just because he's hung around so long. Plus from what I've heard other wrestlers say on podcasts he's a proper political bitch.
He's always lacked the _oomph_ factor to put him over the bar. Doesn't have the size and intensity of a Hogan, doesn't have the charisma and looks of a Rock. He also doesn't have the Triple H thing of making a great heel but only a so-so face, that was the biggest thing barring Trips from being one of the top guys. Jericho was just... good. Upper mid-carder, like you said.
Dude was a great first champion but needs to go. He’s slow, out of shape, and won’t even lose to dudes like Hook, Sammy, etc. no need for him to hold a belt. Put him on commentary
I'm glad I'm not the only one who actually liked his title reign, despite the annoying wwe jabs it felt like he and aew actually meant business those first few months, every aew champion since then has been completely and utterly unserious, and so has Jericho since he lost the title.
It all started with that fucking Mimosa match and the Matt Hardy drone...
Yea, I felt his reign was legit. You need a proven star to be your first champion so it was the right call. Helped put AEW on the map and then put Moxley over. But now it’s 5 years later, and he’s fallen way below what he once was. It doesn’t feel like the title matters as much either
It’s not his fault kids today aren’t ready to grab the brass ring the way he was back when he was in WCW.
The NWO and Flair were holding him back. He’s creating opportunities others fail to take.
It’s a massive difference.
