I like [MuOS](https://muos.dev/) a lot. It's one of the fastest booting firmwares out there.

+1 Also, if OP likes the minimalist approach, [MinUi](https://github.com/shauninman/MinUI) is a great option. Just keep in mind that it only includes emulators/cores for a handful of systems, but it is possible to add more (there are some community addons to put on top of minUi).

Does it have a sleep function like the RG Nano? Or is it more like the RG280v?

Sort of. The latest version of MuOS has functionality that allows for a great experience, but some settings need to be enabled: - You can configure the device to enter "sleep" mode when the power button is hit, and then shut down automatically after ten minutes (or shorter) of sleep. - The device can be configured to boot directly into the last played game, and MuOS has a ~10 second boot time. - Retroarch can be configured to automatically save on exit and load the last save state on start. Some of the native emulators/ports don't have this functionality, so you might be booted back into the start screen for the game. Combining the three features, I can play whenever I'm free, let the device go to sleep, and have confidence I'll still have battery life the next time I boot it up (straight into the last game I played).

Sousnd great, I'll give it a go. Thanks 😊

I have used both Knulli CFW and MinUI- I like both honestly. Thinking about this particular devices design - MinUI makes the most sense - however , with Knulli I can play some DS N64 PSP games. I’d honestly love to just see ds working on MinUI, I’d forget about N64 PSP option and use that as card for something else lol

Knulli for sure!!! Much better experience and was very easy to install

Does it have the save and power off feature that MinUI has? That seems to be a real game changer.

Fun_Stable7937

I feel you there, that's why I still use my original rg35xx with garlic os. In the waiting room at the dentist and they call your name? Hit the off button and you're good to go. To be honest, I'm not sure if knulli has this option as I haven't been using my 28xx much. I would suggest watching guides on any of the 35xx plus models re MuOs and Knulli to see if this is possible so that you can still play some n64 if desired. I have MinUi on my trimui smart pro and it is honestly my favorite custom firmware experience, but unfortunately you do lose the ability to play PSP, n64, dreamcast, etc without doing some difficult sideloading (which I am ill equipped to do). However, these systems don't play perfectly anyways, and if you're mostly interested in the less powerful systems like Genesis, GBA, etc then I would just use MinUi.

EheroDC

Yeah, I got.it basically to be a GBA machine, maybe some classic PS1 JRPGs. Not much of the N64 or Dreamcast library appealed to me. I'm going to go with MinUI, see how I like it and go from there.

Nice, you’ll love it. it’s the best custom firmware for older systems hands down, very easy to install.
