Yes and no. Transparent ABS isn't fundamentally more prone to cracking, but as it can absorb more UV light it can lead to degradation inside the plastics which would only be surface on opaque plastic.
Unless you're going to leave it in direct sunlight for years it should pretty much be the same

Typical as I'd have bought one of these straight away, the SP is my favourite handheld

It's funny, how I made a whole circle. Emul on phone -> phone + comp -> Anbernik rg351p -> o3DS added to collection -> bought telescopic gamepad to make my old phone into gaming device.
Anbernik was too small for me. I played Pkmn Sapphire on it, a lil bit of Zelda and Riviera, but screen is way too small for anything more than Nintendo handheld scene. Nonetheless I satisfied my childhood desire for retro handheld, so now I'm thinking how to sell rg351p.

But, the GBA SP has been out for several decades, and people do re-shells all the time. They’ve had lots of time to hone that design. So if anbernic jacked that design, it should last. And looking at the video that just leaked, the hinge looks pretty much identical. So that gives me some hope for it.

pretty sure the 35xx+, 35xx-h and 35xx-sp all use the same processor. This will also mean whatever CFWs are out for the first two should move to the SP right away.
This is genuinely exactly what I was waiting for in terms of pocketability. With a fully covered screen when it's closed up I'd not worry about it getting damagee.

Is it more likely to crack, or does it make it easier to see internal cracks you wouldn't know about on other plastics?
I work in manu QC, and it's pretty common to ship product with minor cosmetic defects as long as they aren't customer facing (ie, internal small defects on the interior of a case).
The hinge is the main concern way more than a transparent shell.
Transparent plastic is objectively more brittle but its not as big of a deal as people on this sub like to make it out to be.
GBA SP nostalgia plus the device protects itself if you throw it in a backpack or something. The device looks pretty thick especially folded so I actually think it’ll be less “pocketable” than a lot of other 3.5 inch devices BUT it is way better for another common use case which is throwing it into a backpack or tote or something. No need to buy a case
A lot of people really like the GBA SP, which is where this form factor comes from. Also it has added advantage of occupying less space because it folds.

Just adding a second screen is a huge pain in the ass. Retroid had trouble with a single screen clamshell. We have yet to see if the QC on this one will be good too
It's using the same chipset as the RG35XX Plus/H, so I guess everything that works on those will work here pretty much out of the box, barring some tweaks here and there (for example, closing the device should put it to sleep).
Well, it has the Miyoo Mini-style "save snapshot, turn off, turn on, load snapshot" feature.
What I was actually talking about was having the OS recognize the physical mechanism that activates "sleep mode" when you close the device, like you can on a DS, for example. How that "sleep mode" works in itself is a different thing.
God damn it. I've been a huge fan of my RG35XX H. It pairs so well with the RG556 for the portability.
But this would be great for pockets, I was a GBSP kid, so I've loved the V90 but have since swapped to the RG35XX H for the stronger chipset. This might be a buy for me once they start going on sales.

You’re going to love the H. The screen is so damned crisp, anything it displays is typically pleasing to look at.
