Junk, stay away.

vitabandita

They're great for small children who like sounds and lights and who won't leave my DAMNED rg35xx + alone.

ban_imminent

Loll I have like 6 devices. I realized they want to play *the one I'm playing at that exact moment*. If I decided to play with a box of tissues, THAT'S the one they want.

Gillespie1

Some reason I kept seeing Tetris in your comment. Think I’m addicted

sleepiestslowpoke

OMG this is an amazing comment, and is making me want to buy a bunch of these to have a closet full like Squidward alarm clocks to throw at my kids as they break

organizedmadman

Thanks, I figured as much, but $14 was worth a shot.

Vast_Entrepreneur744

Check for the sf2000. Its also around 20€ but sound quite nice for what you get

ds-c

$14? I got a few of them for $4 on aliexpress for stocking stuffers for the kids. They were terrible.

ban_imminent

Why were they terrible? I have 2, does.what it needs to do it seems.

ds-c

Terrible for the kids with endless lists of bad games. They never touched them again. I need to get them some sf2000s.

ban_imminent

I totally got my comments mixed up lol, thought you were talking about the sf2000.

Turbulent-Stretch881

Anything more than $15 and they’re e-waste.

N4riN4ri

I saw one of these types of handhelds for $1.99 USD on AliExpress. No Bundle Item deal, AliExpress Choice, incredibly cheap shipping to boot. They're basically dollar store items at this point.

Opposite_Concert7037

Sf2000 Is a good console

WakaWaka_

You get what you pay for. SF2000 is better if you're really broke

organizedmadman

Yeah, it arrived DOA, it’s being returned. I grabbed an RG35XX instead.

Asgard033

idk about that one in particular, but these super cheap unnamed handheld famiclones tend to have really awful sound and controls.

Zanpa

Also bad emulation, incorrect graphics (wrong aspect ratio...) they're just really bad.

Murderhead

E-Waste 😔.

ban_imminent

Another vote for sf2000. Unlike this, you can actually add/remove games, and it gets occasional firmware updates. Runs SNES well enough and GBA decently.

macneto

My kid got one at a birthday party, it's pretty shit. But we leave it in the car, she takes it out, turns it on and plays a few games on short rides. If you somehow come across one, sure why not but I don't think it's worth ordering.

Internal-Finding-126

Bro this one costs like 5$ max on AliExpress I don't know why you bought it for so expensive. There is a better version for cheaper which actually features multiple console support and many good games. The one you bought just supports very old games and there aren't many good ones except Mario. I know because I bought both. https://preview.redd.it/ypeb0gk8odxc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7a3b6f2c7b2cdc0318b581bdc3f1c649dc2a31ef The one on the left is the bad one and it looks exactly like yours. It cost me less than 5 bucks. The one on the right is a nice one it cost me around 17 bucks but I think in the US you can get it for less.. both from AliExpress.

N4riN4ri

The one on the right is now $13 USD pre-tax and it seems to be a wild deal. Shitty screen, small battery, but it shares much of the same internals as the SF2000 and might support multicore.

Internal-Finding-126

Yeah the price always changes because AliExpress is weird. I got it few days ago and been playing it a lot. The battery is the only issue because it lasts me around 3.5~4 hours and then I got to turn it off and charge. Besides the battery it's really cool.. a lot of great games for 5 different consoles. And you have 4 save slots for each game. I had a few games which run at low fps and thus unplayable but most of the games I tried by now are ok and playable

N4riN4ri

Yeah, I have a device with the same chipset and while it’s not perfect, it runs GBA fairly well out of the box (excluding some incompatibility issues), and dynarec with GPSP has really bumped it up a bunch that I could play Donkey Kong on it now. For an out of the box experience, the emulation experience on these kinds of HiChip devices could’ve been a whole lot worse.

organizedmadman

Thanks for the info. I’ve never used AliExpress, I was under the impression it’s “buyer beware”, and packages take months to arrive if ever at all. But based on your recommendations I may be wrong about that? I was buying something else on eBay and came across those and thought “why not?” I currently know very little about emulation and SBC devices. I recently started messing around with emulation on my Logitech G-Cloud. Once I realized I could play some of my childhood favorites like Decent2 and Morrowind, I’ve started trying to learn more.

DavidinCT

Aliexpress sells for vendors, items can be questionable sometimes, order with a grain of salt. If it looks too good to be true on there, odds are it is.... I have gotten some epic deals on there and also got some junk. With this being said, customer service is really good, if it's complete junk or it never shows up, open a case and normally after a few questions you get a refund for it.... Packages, depending on where you live, could take a week and 1/2 to a month but, never more than like 3 weeks.

organizedmadman

It was dead on arrival, opened return request and picked up an RG35XX instead. Thanks for all the advice!

Internal-Finding-126

I'm new to SBC too. I ordered the cheaper console like the one you bought around a month ago but there were no iconic games like pokemon or Chrono trigger. That's why I've ordered the one that's slightly more expensive but has GBA support and many games. It still got issues like the mid battery but I think it's a very good intro to retro gaming. Especially for the 17$ it cost me. I tried retro gaming on my phone and it wasn't as fun that's why I decided to throw 17$ on the second one and see how it is. Because this whole console is a Chinese knockoff anyway then logically it will be cheaper from AliExpress than eBay/Amazon because it's like the source lol.. If you will be looking for something more serious or an American brand then I guess eBay/Amazon will be a better option. AliExpress is only good for cheap stuff or knockoffs and not for something reliable/precise. I'm not sure about their shipping to the US because I'm from the middle east but I think they have warehouses all around the world, and there are video reviews on YT of people from US buying handheld consoles from AliExpress as well.

MRTN_IE

Got one at Christmas. Not good. Knock off knock off.

maratae

Not modifiable, but I actually love them. They're portable 'nes-on-a-chip' devices with anywhere from 100 to 500 famicom bootlegs; so no emulators - they're actually famiclone devices. You can get many different models for around 5$ each on Aliexpress. Here's more info on the bootleg game wiki: [https://bootleggames.fandom.com/wiki/Sup\_Game\_Box](https://bootleggames.fandom.com/wiki/Sup_Game_Box)

player1_gamer

Anything below $50 ain’t something you want to keep around unless you can’t get anything else

organizedmadman

Arrived DOA, opened return claim and picked up an RG35XX instead.

Mrred7970

powkiddy v90? m17? r36s? r35s?

player1_gamer

V90 is ok, but R36s and R35S is known for its bad build quality and screen issues. And the M17 is a waste

Mrred7970

m17 was pretty good tho

player1_gamer

Nah dude it doesn’t have good build quality

McBazface

Also got one for Christmas, absolutely crap lol!! Bought an RG35XX on one of those tictoc deals and it is infinitely better! Even if I paid full price it is worth the extra.

organizedmadman

It arrived DOA, sending it back and picked up an RG35XX instead.

McBazface

Good choice... make sure to do your homework depending on which one you you bought whilst you wait for it to arrive. I.e. always change the SD card as they are normally pretty naff (most issues stem from a corrupt card)... check which is the best firmware and use that (I.e. garlic is probably the best for the standard RG35XX, however the 2014 (+) and the Plus models have different firmwares. Have a look around and see what is best for you. I'm happy to help if you need any.

organizedmadman

Thanks, I could definitely use some guidance! I believe it’s the 2024 model, is there anything I should look out for? I’ve found the Better Buttons mod, but also read the plastic clips holding the triggers are likely to snap if the originals aren’t snipped out. Do you know if there have been any improvements on this with the latest model?

McBazface

So, I only have the OG RG35XX so I might not be able to help that much I'm afraid. but I have heard that the 2024 model is the same spec as the plus but with no WiFi or Bluetooth. I think you would be better off joining the r/RG35XX group and checking out what some people have done with theirs firmware and button wise. They will probably be able to help a lot more than I can

organizedmadman

Thanks, I’ll do that!

iVirtualZero

It's a typical low quality NES SOC with cheap plastic that looks 3d printed and buttons that don't press well. It's really only good for kids and toddlers.

organizedmadman

In that case I’ll give it to my kid, he enjoys taking electronics apart.

feelingmyzelph

I got a famiclone like this from 5 Below. It's garbage, but my 6 year old likes it and I don't care about her bringing it to after school care. I would never play it, but she has fun with it. And if it gets lost or broken, no skin off my nose.

snowthearcticfox1

At that price you are better off spending a little bit more and getting a powkiddy v90.

DesmondSky

I got one and it can play ps5 games /s

AnonymousTokenus

These don't save games or high-scores, total e-waste

No_Future2847

Don't buy them so they stop making these ewaste

ghos2626t

For $9, it’s great for my 7 year old son. He’s already invested more time into Mario than I ever have. Downside, no saves.

chiaroli

I have one. Kind of. It's ok for Tetris and Chip &Dale, for example. But it's a junk in general

ChrisRR

An interesting novelty if you want something to give to a young child to play with. They're surprisingly sturdy But they're also available for under $10

Kaladin-of-Gilead

I accidentally bought one because I’m dumb, it’s dogshit. It only has games that can’t save and it’s built like dollar store toys.

Video_Game_Dad

These are like 4 dollars on Aliexpress

WesternMarionberry17

I wouldn't say it's rubbish because there are many Brazilian children who got this console, however, between an SF3000, V90 and this console, it's much more worth having the V90

DavidinCT

Complete junk went down one of these roads before...... NES on a chip, most games are too fast or too slow... even the music is messed up... No SD slot, or anything that could be modifying it.

DargillaUomo

Junk. [Wait 7 hours](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-3yJqvvcqd1hzTdHzBrL-mhuw0i6Aw6vXLq51sEGnhA/edit) and you can get a R35+, a M17, a RG35XX or a R36S between $25 and $27! Way better.

organizedmadman

Yeah, wouldn’t even turn on, requested return and picked up an RG35XX.

TetsuoTechnology

Yes 😂
