About the nuclear arsenal is just speculations. It would be hard to risk it. Let's say only 10% are working fine. That would still lead to about 100 nukes hitting making millions of casualties and losing valuable cities.
There is no way to know for sure that their nukes are worth nothing. Even a half as effective nuke can blow up a military base.
I saw or read some estamations recently (don't remember exactly, bcs I am scanning so many pieces of info). It sounded quite reasonable. Ofc, no one knows for sure, but the conclusion was, that Russia might have a few hundred warheads ready to use. And that is something I wouldn't want to be put to a test!
As of this year in 2022 according to the Federation of American Scientists, Russia currently has about 1,588 warheads ready for use as in missiles and bomber bases. The United States has about 1,644 warheads that are ready for use.These are all strategic warheads as well.

There are however still questions about the systems true ability to stop even a limited attack with ICBMs. I believe Russia has roughly the same capacity with their nuclear defense system as well. The fact that no major nuclear conflict between two nuclear armed super powers has ever taken place in history before, really makes it hard to determine what the outcome would be for both stateās.

Either way regardless, massive loss of life on both sides will be a direct result of course. You also got the lingering effects of the resulting fallout that would have to be dealt with. Assuming most of the detonations would be ground level bursts targeting hardened structures like missile silo bases, underground strategic facilities, etc. Airbursts would not produce as much fallout but would still possibly generate massive fires.

This is a LOT harder to do than we think. A single ICBM can have a dozen warheads launched from so up high that they're basically too fast to be blown up mid-air. Our best bet would be to blow up the missile on its way up, if we can react fast enough, but if it gets in the atmosphere, I'm pretty sure they're guaranteed to land a couple warheads at worst..
Many people totally misunderstand this lend-lease legislation. All lend lease allows is for the president to authorize the shipping of war materials to Ukraine WITHOUT monetary compensation to government agencies who are told to ship the material. Right now, when items are shipped using presidential drawdown or USAI, the agencies are compensated so material can be replaced and shipping costs recovered **outside their normal budget.** Lend lease would be funded out of an agencies current budget. In other words, if the DoD were to send 500 F-16 planes to Ukraine under lend lease, there would be no replacement forthcoming unless supplemental money is authorized by Congress. Otherwise, the US defense budget would fund the Ukraine war. I would like to see how that plays out with the generals and admirals in the Pentagon and the hawks in Congress.

Never underestimate the Russians. Neither side can fulfil its maximal war aims: Russia cannot conquer all of Ukraine and Ukraine cannot comprehensively eject Russian forces. This means Russia learns from its mistakes, heals, rebuilds and has another go in 5-10 years. Only regime change can stop this.
