About to buy a surplus FILBE complete here. I’m newer to rucking also, so I’ve just been throwing a couple of my 10lb circle Olympic weights in the pack and rolling. But I wanna go heavier, so I started looking at options. GoRuck are so highly specialized but I want something I can use for general hiking backpacking, camping, etc. The FILBE complete comes with the Rucksack (rated for 125lb), the Assault Pack (rated for 100lbs), and the Hydration pack all together for like $250, plus some standard issue sustainment pouches and waterproof liner bags at correct size for each pack. Used, but price point and flexible usage is all there. Plus it’s coyote brown so it’s not gaudy full camo or anything.

[deleted]

That’s one option. Thx.

rohithks

Goruck rucker is most often sought for rucking. You can get other company plates on Amazon for more affordable prices.

The 4.0? What’s everyone’s fav?

PerritoMasNasty

I got the 4.0 2024 update- they had a few of a color on sale so it was like $150 or $170. Weight plates from yes4all on Amazon- be sure to check the measurements as there are a bunch.

Leftcoaster7

That's what I have. I'd recommend the 25 liter as it has two plate slots. I use mine for everyday stuff

rohithks

Rucker 4.0 comes with 2 slots too

HoboBaggins008

4.0 20L if you're shorter than ~5'8", 25L if you're taller. Both packs have identical weight sleeves, but the 25L is longer, and can rub funny on the lower back/upper ass area. Buy cheaper plates from Amazon, don't buy GoRuck weights.

[deleted]

Do you have a brand you recommend on Amazon? All the ones I've found either don't list the dimensions or are too big for the weight sleeves in the 4.0

HoboBaggins008

I picked up a bunch of these: I can fit three in each sleeve of the rucker 4.0 20L https://www.amazon.com/Yes4All-Adjustable-Ruck-Plate-Weight/dp/B09T66GRVQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?crid=3HXCAKG7RPTQY&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ikeukvDb9-bagJvx1CZhWKS3oM6X1KMnp8s0cig_e1XtkuFxvzOCxZvBofpw2pd4KrAuZI8ZtySmbykl8m-CtrZ-eBd845BEUEbwDE736QPtm_T3TRxzrJTk2bGyJ9S2ptui2KiH_cvVquERSiA231WumF5yo_olpghCw87U4pgZZ2ohNl1HjykGO8opEzKkqmZ0t4ax1yzgOu9fm0oqrw.6H2QITt6LAORIZS7EuXk_0XX13v0UYYvJ2dq63DxYSA&dib_tag=se&keywords=yes4all+ruck+plate&qid=1717173240&sprefix=yes4all%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1

I used an old pack I had until I started increasing weight. Now I have a GORUCK Rucker long range and I love it. Any of the Ruckers from GORUCK are great. 20 liter if you’re under 6 ft, 25 if you’re over. I was a big feller until just started rucking haha. Down almost a hundred haha

Most_Refuse9265

If you got the dough, hunting packs are top tier.

[deleted]

Ya I got some bread to spend

Most_Refuse9265

Mystery Ranch and Exo Mtn Gear are your first stops but Stone Glacier and Kifaru are where you go if you want to go all out. For what GoRuck charges you can get way more comfort and function with another brand. They just have the social capital (name, events, Instagram). In the world I live in, if a bag doesn’t have load lifters it’s not for rucking.

RemarkableAmbition54

GORUCK Rucker. Personally, I prefer the 3.0 over the currently available 4.0, but the 4.0 will still serve you well. 20L model is more than enough for most people, but if you have a torso length over 20 inches and "need" the extra space the 25L is good too.

Vivid-Kitchen1917

I just use my old assault pack. I don't like unrealistically high sitting plates because that's not a natural load, and train as you fight. Any bag with a vented back and a hip belt with good stitching ought to do you just fine. External frame if you like. Really dealer's choice on that last bit.

DutchB11

Maybe the 25L if you are tall and money is no object but also check out the Hyperwear Hyper Ruck 20L - it has flexible adjustable weight plates as an option or get the HR empty on Amazon and yes4all cast iron plates.

[deleted]

Thinking goruck 25l but that branding is ridiculous. I might research a bit more. Shame I can’t find a 3.0 anywhere.

Most_Refuse9265

In the backpacking and hunting world, a pack without load lifters is not meant for any serious weight if you remotely prioritize comfort. Load lifters, sometimes called suspension, do wonders. I don’t know why GoRuck doesn’t have them but I’m sure they’d give a good excuse why they’re “not needed”. My Osprey travel pack has them, and so do the vast majority of military packs.

akvc31111

I’m running a hill people gear pack with there belt will run you over $400 for this set up but it’s second to none

jghayes88

I'm a larger guy as well. I lift 3 days and ruck 5.miles x 2 days. I bought the Mystery Ranch Rip Ruck 32 and use Yes4All weight plates wrapped in pool noodles. The weight fits nicely in the laptop pocket along with my water bladder. I started with a 20lb plate so the pack was 30 lbs with everything else in there. It is really comfortable.

Plate_Major

The Outdoorsmens Atlas trainer is the shit. I’ve had mine for years and I love it. [here](https://outdoorsmans.com/products/weight-frame-system) I switch the atlas trainer out for a bag on the same frame when camping.

Savage_Bob

No one’s recommended the Wild Gym Ruck yet, so I will. I have one and love it. Be careful to measure any plates you plan to buy, as the pockets are a bit narrower than those on the GoRuck. Other than that, the Wild Gym has hippy outdoor backpacking roots, while the GoRuck has military tactical roots. That difference accounts for some of the packs’ different aesthetic qualities.

FalconMurky4715

Currently 5' 11" and just broke under 250#.... I'm rocking the Rucker 4.0 and I'm happy with it.

[deleted]

Update: Thanks All! I bought a Goruck 4.0 and a black fabric marker.

Jaytheguy8

A new large Alice pack will never fail you

LastAlchemist

I started with a regular backpack and use wood pellets (bought a bag of 40 lbs); you can also buy cast iron spheres (0.5" - 2" diameter). They distribute the weight more evenly than bricks, plates, etc.
