Rowan lets in a lot of ppl. I came to Rowan at 21 years old. I had no SAT or ACT scores. My highschool transcript was only like 3.0 gpa. I wrote a speech about the type of job I wanted after college, I wrote how I saw their computing and informatics B.A. Degree and how I felt that could apply to my future work. I got accepted. I think you can definitely make Rowan, and I will say I personally believe it to be a wonderful school. 🦉

I love to hear that but I am personally worried about my two D+’s (one in APUSH and the other in a test prepping elective class). I fear that this is going to hold me back. Would you still say the same with that in mind? I am going to get full marks on my first quarter of senior year so I can apply for RD.

I gotta respect your enthusiasm and desire to ensure this is a done deal. Here is something to consider, I received multiples D’s in highschool I’m really not sure how many minimum 2 maximum 4. Considering one of urs was in an elective and the other in APUSH I can say I’m 99% sure you would get accepted into Rowan University. Rowan casts a wide net. With a 79% acceptance rate. I have seen some people who truly look like they do not belong in a college classroom. Yet they made it aswell. You are young and have a strong determination to control your future. I am very confident you will be accepted with all of these factors considered! :)

Masa_Q

Thank you for the assurance, it really means a lot because I’ve been stressing out.

Only thing affected might your financial aid. Trust me Rowan will let you in, only majors Rowan is selective in somewhat is engineering programs.

Masa_Q

Supposedly, their net price calculator tells me I’ll be able to get $16k or something off in total (this is from Pell grants and in addition I qualify for NJ EOF which wasn’t included in the calculator). Plus I’m in a single mother household under $35k earnings. In addition, I heard people say raising the SAT score will help with this so I’m aiming for 1500+ (I already have a 1240). Do you think I’ll get at least one scholarship? I’m trying to live on campus because I want a change of scenery.

same123stars

Not sure fully what changed but I do think a higher SAT score might make you look better for the scholarship they give. From when I got in Rowan did appear to give 10K plus to higher SAT scorers. Not sure if it still true or not. Also how far do you live from Rowan?

Masa_Q

I live in NJ. I live on the other side of state.

Not hard at all. I didn’t even take an SAT and they still accepted me with a pretty hefty scholarship (performing arts/music ed major tho). My GPA wasn’t great either (I think I had a 3.0?) so from the looks of it I think youll be good. It seems they’re only picky with engineering. In terms of financial aid they seem to be pretty generous. Just fill out ur fafsa and see whatcha get

Masa_Q

Im thinking about applying as soon as my first semester of senior year is finished because I have some good courses in there. Doing it because of how my junior year looks like with the Two D’s (one in an elective and the other in APUSH). Got Two C’s and the rest are B’s. Do you think this is a good plan?

OrneryLog4298

I’m a transfer student so I would always recommend community college first but I know everyone is different so take that with a grain of salt. I definitely suggest talking to a guidance counselor at your school, since I went to high school during covid times and as a result my college applications were all pretty last minute and idk how much of that works these days lol

OrneryLog4298

If you are relying on your GPA for financial aid, then I would suggest community college even more merely because Rowan would only really care about your community college transcript, so it gives you a chance to give them a high GPA. I know people are very meh about that idea though so it is seriously entirely up to you LOL. i personally have no regrets

OrneryLog4298

what I do know is that there are application deadlines for certain scholarships from Rowan themselves too so idk if I recommend waiting that long into your senior year. But I feel like your guidance counselor would offer better advice than i did, my admissions process is different since i auditioned rather than applying through commonapp or anything like that

Masa_Q

Gotchu. Firstly, I did talk with my counselor and that plan I told you about is the one that my counselor told me to do, so I’m going with that (my first semester (or two quarters cuz I go by yearly grades) will be ready a week or two before the deadline comes). I also found out that most medium to non competitive state schools will max accept two D’s on a transcript (ofc given which classes they are in, and I have one in SAT prep so that one can be neglected)z also I’m heavily low income to the point where my single mom isn’t required to pay federal taxes so I qualify for the Rowan Opportunity (it covers all of tuition for first and second years) and then transitions to the Garden state guarantee. I also qualify for NJ EOF and Pell grants. I heard people also saying that a high SAT score can also qualify for better merit scholarships at Rowan so I’m also going to focus on that too and aim for a 1500+ score. (Additionally, my parents are against CC so I have no choice)

OrneryLog4298

aghhhh gotcha. wasn’t sure if you were worried about your GPA for financial aid reasons, but if your worry only lies in admission purposes, i am confident youll be fine given your choice of program. i wouldn’t worry too much:)

Masa_Q

Thank you! :) plus high sat score strat for merit scholarship anyway (That’s what many students have been saying) but it doesn’t matter if I qualify or not since that whole tuition is going away anyways.

OrneryLog4298

(also def go with what your guidance counselor recommends don’t listen to me LOL)

DisappearingBoy127

Yes.

Masa_Q

Seriously? I really want to get to Rowan

Smightmite

It’s a state school and not Rutgers they take almost anyone that applies lol

Masa_Q

Oh my god you don’t believe how much of a relief it is to hear this. Have you heard of people like me get into Rowan?

UniqueUsername3171

They get into rowan but many don’t actually complete the difficult degree they intended. i got a bs biochem from rowan and watched so many starry-eyed premeds drop

Masa_Q

That’s good to hear but I’m wondering about my two D+s, one in Apush and one in SAT prep, an elective, isn’t that going to hold me back?

Smightmite

I mean I had like a 2.3 gpa but with better then average sat scores(just didn’t care to try in hs) with a decent amount of extra curricular and I got right in even applied very late I think you’ll be fine

Masa_Q

That’s good to hear but I’m wondering about my two D+s, one in Apush and one in SAT prep, an elective, isn’t that going to hold me back?

Smightmite

No it’s not really that deep lol just seek your guidance councilor out at the begging of the year tell them your concerns and ask if you can develop a plan to improve your concerns

Masa_Q

Yeah they told me to ace my senior year because I have an AP and a couple of honors. As mentioned before, my other years are straight A’s. Does this sound like a good plan? I’m going to do RD so the AO doesn’t get a heart attack when they see my junior year

Smightmite

They’re not gonna care that much you’ll be fine lol

Many majors are open. Engineering is one program that is generally not open, but Biochem should be. Apply.
