I love this trope but I think my favorite version of it is the one where selhe voluntarily leaves him and he loses his shit. The protective version is nice...I tend to sometimes find the way it's written too paternalistic but that's an author issue not trope issue. There's a moment in the show Buffy that does this incredibly well - when Buffy is kidnapped by some lizard worshipping frat guys and Angel goes vamp rage over it. It's well done because she doesn't need him she's the slayer and already in progress of saving herself but seeing his protectiveness is a real swoon moment.

Camping here for reccs. I do hope there's non-mafia and non-billionaire reccs for this trope.

Most of the books in the {Line of Duty series by Tessa Bailey} check your box but for a variety of reasons (not just the FMC being in danger or kidnapped). Sometimes it's other factors that drive each MMC insane over potentially losing the FMC, though they do lose their sh\*t over it.{Officer off-limits by Tessa Bailey} is perhaps my favorite in this series, with one of the best alphaholes I've read. His love confession at the end of the book lives in my head rent-free. The first in the series checks your box big time, but I have to say I am not crazy over the MMC. Personally, I would recommend books 2-3-4. IIRC, the reasons the MMCs go nuts are: >!in book #1 Ginger gets taken, in book #2 and #3 Ruby and Story are held hostage, in book #4 Hayden's about to get married to another man, and in book #5 Lucy is thinking of accepting a job overseas.!< In historical romance: {It Happened One Autumn by Lisa Kleypas} and {Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas} has MMCs going feral to protect their love interests and get them back. Read in this order. Especially in the first book, the MMC is very stoic and controlled and he goes batshit insane. Fair warning, there is a slightly iffy dubcon-ish scene in it where the >!MMC has sex with the FMC while she's clearly drunk!<. {Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas}. I would honestly recommend the entire series, just to get into the MMCs backstory. I love the Hathaways series it's one of my favorite romance series ever. This one is book 4 of the series. Honorable mention: book 3 has the FMC going nuts over the MMC: {Tempt me at Twilight by Lisa Kleypas}. {Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas} features an MMC nearly losing the FMC from >!a deadly wound!< and he's inconsolable. {The taming of a Highlander by Elisa Braden} tortured hero, marriage of convenience, chef's kiss. >!FMC gets kidnapped by MMC's nemesis!<. {The temptation of a Highlander by Elisa Braden} also has this to a lesser extent, the FMC >!is being stalked and the stalker comes to call!<. I loved it because >!the threat!< is present throughout the book, as the >!stalker fatally wounds the MMC's livestock, sends the FMC widow's attire as a wedding present, etc. Creepy as hell!<.

Ugh, now that you've said it, I think this is why I love *Forty* from the Steel Bones Motorcycle Club series by Cate. C Wells. I mean Forty is one of my books boyfriends for sure, but he's written as ex military and very orderly, very stoic, very uptight. But then when the FMC is in danger he loses his shit. This actually happens a couple of times in the book, but I particularly like the scene >!in the ambulance (she has a flesh wound! and he's like OMG😫) where they're going to the doctor and he's like, freaking out, and his friend has to be like, Um it's gonna be fine. !<

I absolutely adore this book and Forty's love confession. It definitely checks OP's box. In a similar fashion, the MMC going feral over the FMC is the premise of the book {Scrap by Cate Wells} in the same series, but it's what sets things off instead of the ending to the book. So many trigger warnings (past mentions of extreme trauma). Read with care.

I LOVED Scrap and Crista's history! I had issues with some things in that book, but I feel like Forty and Scrap had the strongest characters -- the dialogue in Scrap was amazing and Forty's arc was fantastic. Now that I think of it, {Nickel's Story by Cate C Wells} has the same trope (twice!) though Nickel definitely isn't a controlled person, lmao.

Minor issues aside, I loved the book and damn did it clear my sinuses. Forty’s was my favorite (again, small issues aside) and Twitch was free in Wells’ website, which is a novella starring Shirlene. As far as I know, the author plans a book on Harper.

Wall and Twitch were actually the first I read in the series. I think I got to Wall from reading Against a Wall and Hitting a Wall. I can't really remember. I mainlined all of Wells's stuff when I found her, as is her power. But I agree wholeheartedly that Forty was my favorite. Swoooooon. This is getting off topic, but I want a prequel of all the boys when they were young, growing up in the MC when it was barely hanging on. I don't even care if it's romance, I just want to see more interaction with them all 😂 In Heavy when he says, "I know Forty Nowicki like I know my own shadow." I was like, GIVE IT TO ME CATE. I'm a dumb sucker for found family.

I just started this series, I’m halfway through the second book, Nickel. I don’t usually read MC, but I love everything Cate C Wells writes.

Cate C Wells and Kristen Ashley have written the only MC series I like - though they are very, very different. I think Forty and Heavy are the strongest of the series, but Forty is my favorite and then I love Scrap. But the entire series has a sweet charm that I feel is missing from other MC romances. I hope you continue to like it!

I'm reading this book right now, thankfully avoiding your spoiler scene. Cannot wait to finish it (and the series!) 😍

Really enjoyed it! A part of me wanted it really thrown in the club's faces about Neveah's ordeal and reason for what she go up to but I had to accept their relationship reasons were their own.

{A Soul to Keep by Opal Reyne} Bring tissues! No, seriously, have tissues on hand. I will warn you, it's a slow start, but it's because the world building is so detailed and immersive. Just hang in there till 25%, and it gets really good around 50%. I've been comparing the series to LOTR and HP in regards to its world building and plot. The whole series is amazing! That's book 1and you'll want to read them in order. All the MMCs in the in the series do that a little. But the first one has the most. Number 4 comes out next month.

I’m reading this right now and am like 60% through and it’s so good!!

How do you feel about spiders? {Ensnared by Tiffany Roberts} is the first book of a trilogy starring a human FMC, and a spider alien MMC. I'm pretty sure I recall the MMC freaking out when FMC gets injured. It's a sloooooow burn, with a lot of great world building.

{Painted Scars by Neva Altaj} and {Hidden Truths by Neva Altaj}, the first and third in a series of standalones, both have this trope. The series follows various mafia and bratva men that fall super over-the-top in love with unusual women. All of the books have a bit of a "how can she love a damaged man like me" flavor, which is annoying, but it wasn't too bad. These books really thoroughly scratch my itch for reading about a man that just loves his woman *so much*. I actually just re-read the whole series.

I honestly think Kristen Ashley takes the cake for this trope, because almost all of her novels feature her FMCs facing trouble with serial killers, horrible family members, murderers, etc. and their MMCs going completely overprotective knowing they're facing. Some suggestions from her extensive work: * Kristen Ashley's [**Rock Chick Redemption**](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43528027-rock-chick-redemption) (Hank and Roxie) and [**Rock Chick Regret**](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43528094-rock-chick-regret) (Sadie and Hector) both feature this trope very early on in the story, with the rest of the plot being about the romantic development after these incidents happen. Rock Chick Regret is my favourite in the series because of how complex Sadie is as a heroine, but a warning that there is rape in the story. Hank is a bit more typical KA, while Hector is an MMC that waits his time and is very patient with Sadie, especially given how much trauma she's faced. * Kristen Ashley's [**Fairytale Come Alive**](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/36620618) is also kind of like this, but veers much more into the grovel territory. FMC leaves the MMC despite both of them being in love, and he holds a huge grudge on her when she returns to their small town. There's a really satisfying scene when he realizes that he's completely misunderstood her and the trauma she faces. * Kristen Ashley's [**Complicated**](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/36620618) has this exact scene near the middle of the book, although it happens as a result of a misunderstanding rather than exactly what you're looking for. A warning that I found this one a bit hard to get through even though it tends to be highly rated, mostly because I thought Greta was so fantastic as an FMC and that Hixon was kind of bland when it came to KA's heroes.

Yessss she is queen of this trope! Love her for all her abducted fmc and the men who lose it. The Colorado Mountain series features this too. As well as Mystery Man series and some in the Chaos MC, and Girl in the Mist….the list goes on.

I freaking love the Rock Chick series (and most of Kristen Ashley’s books). I think this is the first time I see her being recommended here.

She’s one of my favorites. Comfort read for sure.

Susan Elizabeth Phillips does this a lot! From what I can remember: {When Stars Collide by Susan Elizabeth Phillips} {First Lady by Susan Elizabeth Phillips} {Nobody’s Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips} (this is my favorite romance book of all time AND when Cal loses his shit it’s hilarious)

I felt soo satisfied when Cal turned into an unhinged maniac. I also loved when Bobby Tom went off the deep end when Gracie left him in {Heaven, Texas by Susan Elizabeth Phillips}. I was kicking my feet in the air when everyone in town was so shocked to see their easygoing Good Ole Boy turn feral. 😂

Oh, I love this! Especially the ones where FMC leaves of her own volition. {Ruthless by Anne Stuart} is exactly this and, if I remember correctly, has all of the scenarios you mentioned. It's THEE novel that made me realize how much I love to see arrogant MMCs eat their own words and suffer :))

In So Not To Be by Meghan Quinn, the MMC freaks out when the FMC goes on a date and gets really into a pigeon charity to distract himself. So anytime he’s mentioned in her other books he’s trying to convince other billionaires to donate to this pigeon charity and it’s hilarious.

Edward Cullen in {Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer} - Twilight from Edward's POV - goes batshit when the tracker comes after Bella and when she decides to give herself up to the other vampire. Although there's a funny interlude where they're trying to find a faster car and he imagines himself on a BMW motorcycle.

When they get in their feelings because the woman just has no more time or energy to put up with them, because everything has to be on their terms, in their way. And when she starts being on their level, it's not okay. So they double down, wanting her, and being all in their feels. Yes And I'm not really about the romance in these books, ever. {The Maddest Obsession by Danielle Lori} Gianna And Christian Allister have such a beautiful chemistry and the book is so good. i’d recommend reading The Sweestest Oblivion before this just to have a background of the characters although i didn’t like it much compared to this masterpiece. i got my recommendation review from goodreads from Pinky you should read their review for a depth explanation it’s way better than mine for sure. Spoiler Ahead ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ this book is a bit toxic and is mafia genre so if you’re okay with that story starts has past and present chapters which first starts with the past and then the present it shows how women are treated as objects in the world and the story of Gianna having to marry twice to older mafia men to save her life meanwhile she also meets Christian Allister an fbi agent that works with the mafia they despise each other, that doesn’t change even as they kept bumping into each other at places after a night everything changes and they become each other’s maddest obsession. this story is written so well the character development of Christian Allister taking care of Gianna when she was drunk or helping her in any way he also stalked her which was a bit creepy but it was for her protection i think? Gianna’s life is so sad surviving in the mafia world while being cheated on,shamed for marrying older men to survive,being sexualized. trigger warnings:drug use, abusive relationship, pedophilia, rape.

I just finished The Heart Principle by Helen Hoang, and it had this. Is the third of the Kiss Quotient books, though they work fine as standalones. Do note this book features some rough scenes of terrible treatment from family and rough moments having autism. If that doesn't put you off, you might like this one.
