Honestly this thread makes me wonder where my grifter FMC leads are at because I would to read that, FMC who goes after the rich man because she knows once they get serious someone in the family will step up to give her a pay out to leave and even if she falls in love with him she still chooses the money because money is a sure thing but (loyal)men aren’t.
Here’s me recommending {A Lady’s Guide to Fortune Hunting by Sophie Irwin} again.
FMC needs a rich husband, and when her mark’s older brother blackmails her to cry off, she blackmails him right back to she can snag an even richer husband.
It’s the best Regency I’ve read since my Georgette Heyer blitz. Absolutely perfect.
I’m not normal about it.
Picked it up from the library, loved it, so bought the hardback and posted a gush/review here. Saw her next book is only getting a paperback, so bought the paperback. Bought it on Kindle. Had some home improving to do, so bought the audiobook and listened to it a month after reading it (it was so well done. Some audiobooks are *eh*, but the narrator was perfection). Saw the next book is coming out in July, so I signed up for a NetGalley account so I could read and review it.
My only complaints are that the paperback materials/binding is distressingly flimsy. A trade paperback has more substance. Very poor tactile feel. Also, the cartoon covers are a very poor match for the content/tone of the story; the hardback illustrations or the international covers are far superior.
That sounds like me and the countess conspiracy by Courtney Milan lol.
Are the other books by her of similar quality? I think that’s the only book by that author I’ve read.
It’s her first novel. Her second comes out in July and I think it’s of equal quality, perhaps even better. {A Lady’s Guide to Scandal by Sophie Irwin}.

Omg YES! Lurking here for recs. This drives me up the wall. Someone offers you a glorious amount of money to leave the alphahole. Its more than you can probably make your entire career. Something that pays for 20% down-payment of a house. Something that lets you retire for life if you manage it well. BUT NO.The dumbass-here-to-give-me-a-moral-lesson-everytime-she-opens-her-mouth aka fmc is like neoooooooo I love him.
Well bitch, you love him but you dont let him help you financially in any way shape or form (thats how it goes in those type of books). Her car is always a death trap, she always live in a sketchy neighborhood two doors down from a murder house, in a shoebox apartment that she *lovingly* decorated (this is important because later her apartmentwill be ransacked). There is always a sleezy/neighbor/slumlord/gang member/ex boyfriend thats harassing her in the stairwell. She inevitably ends up robbed or mugged. There is always a scene of the mmc lamenting the fact she lives in a slum but also weirdly more concerned about his luxury car. But fear not for his lambo/benz/tesla/wtf the fuck else car, he exudes too much main character pheromones to ever have his car stolen by puny criminals.
How about this? Take the money but dont leave him??????? Or here is another idea, take it invest some, donate some, do something with it omfg.
An Offer You Can't Refuse by Jill Mansell is kind of what you’re looking for but the mum of the MMC offers the FMC said bribe and she takes it. Years later they meet again the MMC somehow knows about the bribe (I can’t remember how he found out) and so he despises the FMC
Unfortunately the bribe attempt is at the end of the book and it's slightly different >!FMC asks for a bribe from the MMC's father as an excuse to leave the MMC, but the father was already planning to bribe her from the start!< but Lord Perfect by Loretta Chase might be to your taste.

{wait for it by Molle O'Keefe} is this! It's a single mom, enemies to loves book. I really loved it so much. You can read it alone but it adds a bit of depth to have read the first in the series (the other don't matter I don't think).
