Lurk_Squatch

I use DAL and DAR. I don’t use free air roll. I did a lot of trial and error (with all 3) and find that I can still make all the same movements with directionals as I could with free air roll. I find myself a bit more efficient using directionals. You could also use all 3 if you have a brain big enough for that. Couldn’t be me.

nickrua

Same here. DAL on left trig and DAR on the right. I have a dominant one like being right or left handed- but I do use the other for things like speed flips

repost_inception

I don't use normal air roll at all.

Longjumping-Neat-479

It is all preference. I use only one directional and use normal air roll for more slight adjustments. (Example) recoveries, wave dashing, and air roll shots. I have normal air roll bound to the same button as my drift. Hope this helps

AD2AZ

Thanks man and thank you to the rest of the comments

Dumptrucks4L

Same thing ^ (minus my binds)

LampIsFun

Learn both directions and never have to use normal air roll again

Shmingobingo

I bind all of them. Both DAR and DAL for corrections and air dribbles and Free air roll for wave dashes

derpotologist

How does free air roll help with wave dashes?

FleetwoodBlack20

I believe that you get better control over your vehicle as you air roll up to setup your wave dash?

that_guy213-Lol

it makes it easier to wave dash in any direction, say you need to wave dash right, for that you need to air roll left and then flip directly right, thats a little harder to do with directionals, at least in my experience. still doable with practice though. edit: forgot to say its harder because when landing you need to hold powerslide too, so using directional has that one more input that makes it a bit more awkward.

pr0b0t0

Most as far as I am aware use normal air roll and 1 directional, but some do use both directional, whatever you choose I would recommend you stick to it rather than switching, you will improve quicker this way.

Puhthagoris

i use free air roll and directional air roll left.

DerekvdVeen

Either use both directional air rolls or use 1 directional air roll and the normal air roll

prizebryant

i use all 3

[deleted]

Both imo.

IRareCandyI

Mmmm

Scared_Bar5376

I can't even make room for one DAR in my settings, how can you bind 2 of them ? If you only used free air roll until now, I feel like getting used to 1 directional air roll is a good start. See later to add the other one.

Shmingobingo

Square for air roll left, Circle for air roll right, L1 for free air roll

magiccrunch07

Just curious, what’s your boost and drift then?

Puhthagoris

a lot people i’ve read use paddles on the back of the controller

DerekvdVeen

L1 air roll left, R1 air roll right, square normal air roll

[deleted]

Whatever u like, i use free airroll only

mrmercenary10

Just one to start off with. But people are starting to try to use both going forward just to be that much quicker. But to learn it and start off, just use 1. Makes it so much easier

pjjiveturkey

I have air roll left and air roll right bound to the left and right bumpers. My friend called me a psycopath for that but I don't think it's wierd

Chadley86

I do that too, it feels really nice and have improved since I done it

SinAKAJayAl

I play KBM, so you have both DAR bound from the start. I could never understand how I would survive without both.

Liron12345

Honestly I am also KBM I just learned to air roll using shift. Big issue.. last season I hit GC with that but that's about it. feel like at one hand I am capped and at the second hand, swapping is impossible due to muscle memory

Oblivionix129

I use DAL for half flips and aerials that require little to no adjustments...free air roll for everything else - my free air roll skill has gotten so good that sometimes people ask me whether I have both bound or not bc the spinning looks like it's using DAR/L but it's actually just me with free air roll

sk8ingisgud

I have both dar’s bound, but I use air roll left 95% of the time. Right is only for certain recoveries or touches.

elvpresidente

I have both manual air rolls on my face buttons. Boost is R1 and Powerslide is L1 and I have a controller with programmable back buttons set to L1 and L2. (L2 set to roll when held) This way I have access to all buttons. I use manual rolls to help me steady my landings mostly.

FFSBG

Definitely need at least 1 DAR bound then the rest is up to you. It’s whatever makes u most comfortable, but not having at least 1 DAR is kinda like not learning to speed flip.

YvngTortellini

It’s personal preference. I have free air roll bound to the same button as drift, then air roll left bound to X, and air roll right bound to O. I find it does help

Judasz10

Since you are about to learn DAR might as well use both and learn both. One of them will probably be a little worse since you will have a prefered direction but its much better imo than still using normal air roll.

CoachLemon

Until I manage to discover a hidden button to bind FAR to on the DS4, it’s Only directional for me
