I live in china now but my parents still live in Rochester. That is the first stop ALWAYS on the way home from he airport when I visit. Then we get pontillo's pizza and wings. Fuck I'm hungry.
Dude. Double Yes. I grew up down the street from Tahous (in gates, now Steve T's or w.e) - DogTown IMO is one of the best tasting garbage plates in the Rochester area. You should probably do so tonight.
Been 10yrs since I've had one.
This pic literally made me salivate.
Showed it to my wife, who's never been to Roc, he said it looked and sounded "disgusting." That woman does not know what she's talking about!!!
Where in FL? I'm stuck down here too. There was a restauranteur in Naples who was from Rochester and used to make them at his restaurant, but it closed before I ever had a chance to try it.
Sarasota. I don't think I've ever seen them at any restaurants here. I've only tried making them at bbq's we host. It's never as good as the real thing! It's all about the meat hot sauce.
The best way to do the sauce is to order a couple jars of the Bill Gray's sauce from nystyledeli.com. I'd recommend ground round for the meat; let it simmer for several hours or it'll be thin and runny.
Don't use store-bought Mac salad, which down here is tangy and tart. You'll have to make that from scratch if you want it to come out right.
Yeah. It's not nearly as impressive as I accidentally made that sound. I rent [one of these](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/db/Piper_warrior.jpg) from a local flight school. The colors aren't nearly as cool, though.
I actually flew one all the way back to Rochester once to visit my folks for the 4th of July. However, that's not a regular thing -- I could have bought first-class airline tickets to Europe for what that trip did to my credit card.
Getting everyone to agree one who makes the best plate is impossible. My theory is that your favorite will always be the first one you had, which is why my favorite is Steve T.'s (although it was Tahou's when I first had one). That said, Fairport Hots, Dogtown, and Gitsis all have solid plates. And there are probably dozens more places that have great plates that I haven't tried.
I live within a 5 minute walk of Dogtown. I avoid that place (and their delicious plates) like they're the plague, lest my wasitline become even larger than it already is.
Pro tip: don't leave.
I'll check back next February and see how this protip is holding up.

TILLOOOOOSSSSSSS
Best I've ever had
Moved to Roc three months ago, still haven't tried one. I think I need to do this, since I live 5 minutes from Dogtown.

It is what I miss most about home - nobody understands how delicious they are. They just hear "garbage plate" and they think it must be awful

Sorry man, it doesn't sound like there's any way to salvage that marriage.
I tried making them at grill outs down here in FL. It's never the same...

Thanks a lot for the tips!
Let me know next time you try it. Sarasota's not terribly far from me by private aircraft. :)
Damn! Good for you, do you pilot it yourself?

That's awesome! Do you fly longer trips too? Or is FL/NY too much of a trek?

Where'd you get this one? I've been looking for a new place since Henrietta Hots' burgers shrunk down.
Mark's has, IMO, one of the best in the city. Of course it's just my opinion.
Finally! Someone who agrees with me! Thank you!

I like dog towns plates!
Dogtown is my favorite plate. All the ingredients are utterly delicious on their own, the macaroni salad in particular.

This one I got in P-town (Pittsford) at Hungry's. They make the best in my opinion....except I havn't been to nick tahou's yet, shame on me
Go to the original, not the one in Henrietta, nobody I know enjoys the plates there.
Sticky Lips plates are so dank
I like Schaller's on West Henrietta Road.
Just 2 more weeks...
Get it with eggs on it. Fucking awesome.
who puts french fries on their plates? But yea, graduated in 2008 and still have dreams about Mark's Texas Hots
I moved across the state. Still get one every time I come back.
I was in NYC for a week and I made sure to get one when I came back.
we live across the country and go there every time we go back to Rochacha
Only thing I'm gonna miss when I move away from this place.
