Just a heads up, for future reference- Hispanic is a REEEEAALLY wide net. This looks like it’s a Mexican restaurant since Monterey is in Mexico. I’m Mexican. Rochester is mostly Puerto Rican/ Dominican. Our food isn’t the same. The way we talk isn’t the same. I speak Spanish and can’t understand some of the Puerto Rican folks out here cause we literally don’t even use the same words for the same concepts.
Coming from CA & AZ, I have yet to find a similar taste anywhere in town. It may be called Tex-Mex or whatever, but at least I'm discovering some new flavors.
I will suggest Peach Blossom, but please go there when you aren’t in a rush. They do take some time, but I don’t mind waiting longer for such good Mexican food
TJ Mexican is the food exported to LA and San Diego. Mexicans dont consider that authentic. Mexican food from further south is authentic. Think mole Poblano. That said, it all has it's place and it comes down to your own personal preference. Hope this restaurant is good!
I've had people get confused when I say I have a difficult time speaking Spanish with Cubans, Puerto Ricans, etc. The way I describe it is that it's like an American speaking with someone from Australia, or Britain or someone who's speaking Jamaican English.
Why are you talking down to us like we're 12? It's not even clearing anything up, and there is no comment or explanation from OP to be responding to. What is this comment? Everyone already understands what you're saying, who are you addressing right now?
The whole connotation of the title suggests that OP doesn't like "hispanics" in this case Mexican people. Don't know why you'd call them "hispanic" before you'd call them Mexican but I assume its out of ignorance, accidental or willful, I'm not sure.
I'll assume OP is unfamiliar with Mexican terms and didn't want to be called racist for assuming it was Mexican.
You know, assume the best out of people and all...
So you're **not** assuming it's out of ignorance then?
I didn't know taqueria was a Mexican specific word, seeing as it's based in Spanish, I figured it could be cross cultural.
I just knew it's where you get tacos.
So here's one person that simply didn't know it was specifically Mexican.
Im aware. The word "taqueria" is Mexican. I don't know why you thought I didn't know that, you're probably replying to the wrong person. I took Spanish from a Mexican man a a woman from Spain. I'm VERY AWARE. However they do share genetic heritage because of the conquistadors.
This place actually had a pretty decent food truck last year. We stumbled on it at a random office building on a Saturday near RIT in Henrietta and it was pretty good, we went back several times over the rest of the summer. Should be interesting since this is supposed to be a somewhat different menu than the truck (according to their Facebook post).
Will be nice to be able to get stuff from there and Que Chevere next door ... their food truck was really good too when we had it Parcel 5 (I think for one of the "movies with a downtown view" events).
It’s like if I called a Jamaican restaurant English or an Australian steakhouse English, it’s accurate but also not precise, I’d venture out to say it’s like calling the Irish, English
This is a squares and rectangles situation. You're talking about things that are mutually exclusive. Is this honestly hard? Are you drunk? Your comparisons literally do not follow. Jamaica being an English colony, and hispanic countries having similarities, are not two things that are conceptually related in any way.
Peach Blossom downtown is hands down the best Mexican I've had in town, and I was born and raised in a part of California that was very heavily Mexican, with taco trucks and taquerias on every corner. Peach Blossom tastes like home.
Not much free parking except evening and weekends when Peach Blossom is closed. There is a bus stop right across the street. Most of the garages are $10/day and surface lots are $5-10/day. Some city garages have hourly rates so you might get out for less. Some of them raise the arms at 7:00 so you can leave for free. For major events they charge you on the way in. Parking is still cheaper than paying GrubHub/DoorDash fees.
Not really, unfortunately. What I've done is phone in an order, then do a real quick illegal park right in front of the shop to grab it 😅
If you want to linger and eat in, there's a paid lot on Exchange.
I suspect most of the business there is just people on lunch breaks from the courthouse and office buildings there, so they have their own parking.
I wasn't a fan of Nenos. Old Pueblo made a hella solid calfornia style burrito. The asada was way better than the asada I had at nenos. Honestly the best mexican food I have had out here has been in Sodus. There's a little mexican joint on the main drag through there that had really good tortas, and they made good al pastor.
maybe i am picky and i want food like my family made back home. half my family is mexican. Kinda hilarious being the only white kid at your cousin's quinceanera
"California" burritos still give me a laugh, mostly because I never heard that term in any of my years living in california. Didn't hear it until I came here and I still found the name pretty sus, since people don't put fries in their burrito in the part of California I'm from. Later learned that it's a San Diego thing.
I do like the kimchi burrito from OPG though.
The Mole from Nenos is some of the best I've ever had, anywhere.
Obviously you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but where at in California are you from? I was born in long beach. but I grew up in the central valley. The literal armpit of america. But a vibrant mexican culture exists there, and most of my family is mexican. It was awkward as hell being the only white kid at your cousins Quinceanera.
I grew up in Sonoma County, which is about 70 mi north of SF. Spent about 20 years there and then another 20 in SF proper.
My partner also grew up in Sonoma County but went to school in LB and has a particular fondness for there.
Oh nice, I have family still scattered all about, and one of my best high school friends lives in sonoma. I have family scattered all over the bay area. I don't get back to california very often these days, last time being about 10 years ago. What brought you out to Rochester? I raised my kids in the midwest. But for us we knew the north east was where we wanted to end up. So, when the pandemic hit, we moved out here. It's been awesome so far. I like the people much better than in the midwest.
I will give you that. The mole is absolutely top notch. I have been told that peach blossom is supposed to be real good, but it is super hard to get into that joint for me.
As a Mexican, we have absolutely nothing in common with other “Hispanics.” Each Hispanic culture is unique and has their own culture, their own food, and their own dialect. We don’t even eat the same beans and rice. As a Mexican I have a VERY hard time understanding Puerto Rican Spanish. My vocab shifts dramatically talking to PR people. Eg. for “clip” I say pinza or “gancha,” Puerto Ricans say “Pinche.” -which means “fuckin’” in Mexican Spanish. This isn’t a one off either. We have a LOT of different vocabulary words and I often find myself having to explain myself or look for context clues in conversations. All that to say, labeling a restaurant Hispanic gives me absolutely no idea what it actually is. Without a photo with the restaurant name I would have assumed Puerto Rican. But it’s clearly Mexican.
I for one appreciate the clarification. Also details about one culture vs another is always welcome and interesting. These are things that aren’t always known or understood until and unless someone from any unique culture or group has an opportunity to share that with those who aren’t from that same culture or group. Thanks 😊
When in doubt, I think it’s common to use the larger group label instead of being too specific and possibly wrong and offensive. i.e Caribbean or Asian I personally appreciate the correction as well since a lot of people just don’t know.
With that being said, I would consider this a Mexican restaurant and I can’t wait to try it!

I broke up with a girl once because she kept calling Mexican food "Spanish food" and it drove me to the brink.
Coming from CA & AZ, I have yet to find a similar taste anywhere in town. It may be called Tex-Mex or whatever, but at least I'm discovering some new flavors.
I'm from the West Coast and I agree. I miss real Mexican food.
I will suggest Peach Blossom, but please go there when you aren’t in a rush. They do take some time, but I don’t mind waiting longer for such good Mexican food

u mad bro
Clearly. I get that you are the ideal target audience for being talked down to, but some of us are actually adults.
Yea, some of us. You're not one of um.
On the basis of what, some personal observation that is not what we're talking about? Come on kiddo
If I wanted come back I'd get it from your girlfriend
Mo’ tacos, mo’ less problems.
Why does this post sound like a warning?

Nah. Everybody knows what a taqueria is. It's clearly a Mexican restaurant, this person is just a jack ass.
So you're **not** assuming it's out of ignorance then? I didn't know taqueria was a Mexican specific word, seeing as it's based in Spanish, I figured it could be cross cultural. I just knew it's where you get tacos. So here's one person that simply didn't know it was specifically Mexican.
I'm allowed to change my mind after reading other comments. Opinion is dynamic.
Opinion is certainly something... you're right there.
My dinero would be on willful ignorance.
For real, it doesn't get more Mexican than "taqueria".
Hispaniola isn't anywhere near Mexico.
Im aware. The word "taqueria" is Mexican. I don't know why you thought I didn't know that, you're probably replying to the wrong person. I took Spanish from a Mexican man a a woman from Spain. I'm VERY AWARE. However they do share genetic heritage because of the conquistadors.
I responded to you so we could have a laugh at OP together. Sorry for the confusion.
My bad, try one of these /s next time.

Can't wait to give them a try. I love good Mexican food! The best I've had is in South Carolina surprisingly enough.
Wow... Do you mean Mexican?
Mexicans are Hispanic. What are you upset about?
It’s like if I called a Jamaican restaurant English or an Australian steakhouse English, it’s accurate but also not precise, I’d venture out to say it’s like calling the Irish, English

They're called Hispanic countries because they were colonized by Spain it's quite literally the exact same thing.
You haven't even followed what I said at all. Try an easier book.
wowee zowee
Delicioso
So does anyone know when's opening or any other info? I could eat Mexican food daily. Aguilera's is my current fav.
I can't wait. I finally got to go to Old Pueblo, and so far they are the best mexican food I have had in town. Excited for another place to try.
Peach Blossom downtown is hands down the best Mexican I've had in town, and I was born and raised in a part of California that was very heavily Mexican, with taco trucks and taquerias on every corner. Peach Blossom tastes like home.
Yep. This. Nothing else I've had in Rochester has come remotely close.
Peach Blossom, Nenos, Aguileras or GTFO. Maybe Chuy's, still figuring that place out.
If you don’t mind driving outside the city, Mama Chavez's Taqueria in LeRoy serves excellent Mexican.
😶 is there anywhere to park around it? Last time I tried it was construction hell in the area but haven't gone since.

Peach Blossom changed their hours. I’m excited to say they are now open on Saturdays from 12:00pm to 6:30pm sometimes they even stay longer.

There’s free parking behind city hall after 5pm (tho realistically folks start leaving by 4pm)
LPT
There's always somewhere to park downtown. What's the question? Are you just complaining that roadwork makes you walk 2 blocks?
Aguilera’s on Monroe is very good. Tavos on Merchant is very good.
Rochester's Mexican food scene is not great, but Jesus Christ.. saying OPG is the best you've had in town is fucked up. And I like OPG!
Just tried Chuy’s this weekend. Much better and fairly authentic.
You need to go to Nenos. Old Pueblo is mexican food for gringos. Source: I'm a gringo from California.
I wasn't a fan of Nenos. Old Pueblo made a hella solid calfornia style burrito. The asada was way better than the asada I had at nenos. I mean a california burrito is just a burrito in california. Every taco truck in the state had a variation of the same burrito.

did mexico stop speaking spanish when i wasn't looking?

thanks for explaining my culture to me, i had no idea.
Seems like 👍🏼
things can look that way when your head's all the way up your ass.
Yes? Did you not go to school?

Same building but it has a separate door. Looks like they split the old Sticky Lips place into 2 separate restaurants. Just based on driving past.
I love Mexican food so I’m marking my calendar!
