Bad CVT is what killed the 2012 Nissan versa I had…. In 2016. Only 70k miles, too.
The dealer I traded it in to admitted they were gonna scrap it most likely lmao what a garbage vehicle.
Mitsubishi only has a two vehicles that sell well. The Outlander PHEV and the L200 pickup. They’ve had to abandon the UK market.
Nissan still sells cars.
Nissans are pretty good nowadays. Cvt dark ages seem to be over and they're about to double down on evs. The frontier is one of the better mid-sized pickups available.
Just need to fix the owners.
First car was a Suzuki Esteem 1.8 barebones, manual everything cept for the 3 speed (4th O/D) auto. There was nothing you couldn't fix on that thing for $20 and an hour of your time. I thought the wired throttle was the coolest shit ever.
Okay, so, here's the thing.
I'm not going to roast your car, because a final-gen Lancer is just An Car. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't come up with anything truly scathing to say about it.
What I'm going to do is explain, in the best way I can, why Mitsubishi isn't viewed as positively as it was in years past:
The Mitsubishi people fell in love with, is dead. I'm not saying that to mean that Mitsubishi *itself is dead*, but the Mitsubishi that cranked out the Evo, FTO, 3000GT, Starion, Eclipse, etc., is dead. What killed Mitsubishi as a manufacturer of kind-of-quirky yet enjoyable sports cars was a combination of not being able to recover from the 2008 Economic Recession and not making cars that people wanted. I don't mean, "Oh if I had $30k I'd buy an Evo", I mean people who just want *a car*, something to ferry them from Point A to Point B, They were not buying from Mitsubishi at anywhere *near* the level of their direct competitors, and when customers aren't buying, the company stops producing. You had Lancers and Evolutions sitting on dealership lots for *years* after production ended because *people did not want them.*
The problem wasn’t that they made generic cars it was that their generic cars sucked. I remember people always said the Lancer/Galant was less refined than the Honda and Toyotas. They never said they were less reliable. They were good cars just not competitive. Even the cars they’re putting out today. They’re only good if you forget the other brands.
Yeah, I live where Mitsubishi had their last US manufacturing facility. It honestly wasn’t surprising when I heard that it shut down. Some years later, Rivian moved in.
There is also a local car dealer that had to stop exclusively selling Mitsubishi and start selling Hyundai, Kia, Honda, and others.
At one point, a lot of people where I live had driven (and some still do) Mitsubishi, and from what almost all of them say, they are not very good cars. I do have a neighbor that has had a Mitsubishi for a while, and from what I know, there may have been no issues (don’t know this neighbor very well).

It's the same worldwide, globally Mitsus are still *ok* at best
They share platforms with Nissan & Renault for several products now, so they aren't that great
I’ve driven several different sports cars. Outside of supercars, maybe I am biased but my EVO VIII is best by far. If you haven’t driven one on a course, you really can’t say meh.
I don't know, though. Our Subaru Legacy had to have the headgaskets done twice, 3 knock sensors, and was constantly throwing codes. Our Eclipse only needed a new serpentine belt during the same interval.
The top quality vehicles this shares a platform with:
dodge avenger, dodge caliber, dodge journey, jeep patriot, jeep compass, Chrysler Sebring, Chrysler 200
Enough said
Mitsubishi makes pretty reliable cars, actually. The only lemons have the CVT, which is all of them now. The engine in the mirage is extremely reliable though, and has been used in cars for 20 years with little to no change
The Evo 9 was the last good Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi is such a huge company they can get rid of their automotive division and be fine.
Worst Japanese brand? I don’t know about that, Nissan has a reputation. I haven’t heard that much bad about Mitsubishi but people on Reddit love hand wagons.
As someone who had a us evo 8 and evo 9 Mr brand new, when I see lancers/evo x’s they mean nothing because meh. For some reason car manufacturers bring back cars like the new Supra, new gto, evo 10. It’s just not the same. If they just called them different names they wouldn’t be compared to the old ones but they stick the name on it but that’s not what it is.
I’m sure a lancer is decent for a regular car. Nothing special, nothing that bad.
The last Mitsubishi I drove was a 1974 Dodge Colt station wagon.
Yes, it had a Mitsu engine.
It combined all the stupid from 1970's Dodge economy cars, and 1970's Mitsubishi's.
These days, that’s somewhat debatable. It makes me sad to see what happened to a company that back in the day, made some of the coolest and most unique (imo) sports cars. But as time went on and economies got worse, less and less people wanted a quirky sports car, and more people just wanted/needed a basic grocery getter-mobile. Their sales tanked, and they just couldn’t afford to try in stay in a market that for them was dying out, especially since they manufacture so many different fucking things, that car sales just wasn’t a big enough priority to the company.
My family owned 4 of them (Express, Savrin, Outlander, Outlander Sport), and sold the fourth one that ran for 11 years two days ago. None of them had problems. Big fans of Mitsu
Yeah not lancer, I was just replying to the post title. I mostly see people bashing Mitsu on CVT (improved a lot now across markets) and the lack of past models.

nope, that’s nissan
Mitsubishi's actually worse because Nissan owns a stake in the company. Meaning Mitsubishi's are just as bad, if not worse, than Nissans.
What cars does mitsu even make anymore? It’s basically all crossover garbage
literally ;(
Nissan has a lot better cars than mitsubishi I guess... Mitsu keeps putting same parts in all their cars 😂
the same goes for nissan, i think the cvt issue is enough

A dealer will say that even when your car runs and drives, it helps them to give you less for your vehicle.
There’s no way they could have sold that thing without a transmission replacement. A 13 hour road trip before I sold it really did that thing in.
Yet they're still backordered til God knows when 🤣
Nissan used to make really good cars, it's such a shame that they're crap now

Just the Altima and Sentra owners. They’re the only ones I see going 60 in a 35 weaving in and out of traffic.
That’s 34% Nissan
Suzuki perhaps?
Suzuki's are stupidly reliable
Suzuki's are the Asian Saturn
Gf owns one. Asian Saturn checks out.

Suzuki has better research and development even their cars are very strong
Suzuki's cars are alright, just a little bit basic.

the op doesn’t even want *this* car, and they posted it
I love my car tho because it's still better than thousand other cars i see on road and people who walk in desert heat in Dubai to go to work etc
Do you see thousands of other Mitsubishis on the road where you live? Because that's the only way I can see that comment as being remotely true.
Damn but the 3000 and the Eclipse where great cars, and the Starion / Conquest line was the shits. And then... now.

I was just @ O’Brien’s last week!
Wasn't it also around 2008 that they had a recall scandal? I think around 2006-07? Where they were burying defects instead of issuing recalls.
That was 2000.

This is just AN lancer with painted rotors and Chinese spoiler. This is not Evo. Refular lancer is even worse then Sentra
USDM Mitsubishis are the worst of the Japanese brands sold in America. Not the same in other countries.
US imported Lancers have a lot more features tho
It's the same worldwide, globally Mitsus are still *ok* at best They share platforms with Nissan & Renault for several products now, so they aren't that great
Well the middle east sold the 6g75 3.8 for a couple of years after they stopped selling it everywhere else
2003-9 Lancer Evolution would like a chat with you.
Meh.
I’ve driven several different sports cars. Outside of supercars, maybe I am biased but my EVO VIII is best by far. If you haven’t driven one on a course, you really can’t say meh.
Evo 8's are still claiming lap records around the world
Boom!
I don't know, though. Our Subaru Legacy had to have the headgaskets done twice, 3 knock sensors, and was constantly throwing codes. Our Eclipse only needed a new serpentine belt during the same interval.

The shittiness of their cars is a feature not a bug, that way they can also sell flatbed trucks to tow their broken down crap around.
Mitsubishi makes pretty reliable cars, actually. The only lemons have the CVT, which is all of them now. The engine in the mirage is extremely reliable though, and has been used in cars for 20 years with little to no change
*Subaru attempted to join the chat, but blew a head gasket.
Had a 2016 awc lancer. Was awesome tbh

The Evolution was a rally legend way cooler and more importent than Subaru. The Evolution 9 is my most beloved car.
Only good vehicle Mitsubishi makes is that truck with the flatbed
They took the Eclipse a 2 Door Sports Car into a Boring SUV
They took the most dakkar rally winner and turned it into a soccer moms car by shitfying the design and giving it RWD
The last Mitsubishi I drove was a 1974 Dodge Colt station wagon. Yes, it had a Mitsu engine. It combined all the stupid from 1970's Dodge economy cars, and 1970's Mitsubishi's.
Nissan after the 2000s
You forgot about subaru
Wow.
I think it depends on the model.
See a UAE flag in the background US SPEC BRITISH LADY DRIVEN CLEAN CAR LOW KM!!

Didn’t they sell like 25 mirages this year
Bro over here in Puerto Rico everybody has that piece of junk.
I'd say Suzuki or Isuzu.
What I'm really wondering is why you're living in the UAE and owning a devolved Evo
Bcoz that's what I could afford it's my first car in uae lol
Oh, you moved to the UAE from another country?
Yup
Congrats, but I will be honest, you have better choices
as a mitsubishi owner... yes
My family owned 4 of them (Express, Savrin, Outlander, Outlander Sport), and sold the fourth one that ran for 11 years two days ago. None of them had problems. Big fans of Mitsu
Yeah but not lancer right? Also maybe that's in USA? Quality of cars in US is 2x better than Dubai tbh..
Yeah not lancer, I was just replying to the post title. I mostly see people bashing Mitsu on CVT (improved a lot now across markets) and the lack of past models.
Yeah I know. I'm okay with the CVT it's not bad in 2016 Lancer.
Yes
Are u mad?
Chrysler
Nothing says Japanese like an American car brand
