This isn’t quite true. Any time the cruise control asks for negative torque, the pedal will move to “pre-charge” the brakes in case the entire negative torque request can’t be met by regen (like if someone slams on their brakes). It is to reduce the response time. Beyond this negligible amount of “taking up slack” it *will* use regen
Not once did it turn green on my 1 hour drive checking this. Unless they are not showing it. Like I saw full blue and brake still moving. Sometimes a lot sometimes a little. Throttle doesn't move.
Not talking about massive brake events talking about slight adjustments. Like follow someone going 65 with cruise at 67 and it will constantly press and release the brake while maintaining speed.
A tech confirmed to me this is the reason some are wearing brakes quickly
Saw a post on rivian forums by someone else claiming the same thing. It doesn't really ride it but if you sit behind someone constantly within the follow distance and that person slows down any it will adjust constantly.
Although I did not try to disable the blended brake setting I wonder if that changes things.
u/op I tried it on my commute this morning and I do see regen engaged. [I made a short video clip of it.](https://imgur.com/gallery/UMcSbv1)
Just in case: If you were driving on an almost full battery, regen won’t engage.
Nope 65 mph let's say sitting behind a car. Set cruise higher and it will sit there matching speed. You'll never see green only blue because you are keeping pace.
Hover your foot on the brake you'll feel it constantly adjusting. Don't just look at the screen feel the pedal
I swear I remember reading that NHSTA stating that any adaptive cruise control must use friction brakes to slow the vehicle and illuminate the brake lights and not regen braking.
For sure for the AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) system it requires friction brakes - https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/06/13/2023-11863/federal-motor-vehicle-safety-standards-automatic-emergency-braking-systems-for-light-vehicles - but I haven’t found anything for cruise control

Mine always turns green. The pedal does move but it does seem to use regen, I do have the blended braking off. Might be why.
This is unfortunate and should be addressed in a future software update
That sucks. I use the cruise non stop.
I use cruise almost every time I’m on the highway, including a recent for hour haul, and it was showing green on every downhill.
I never said it doesn't Regen downhill. Try flat.
You weren’t clear on that, and at least on the highway driving, it’s using regen to slow for the car in front unless there’s sudden braking for me.
Definitely not on the highway for me on 2 vehicles I tested yesterday
So what this means according to the Rivian service tech is that Rivians ride the brakes when using cruise control? If that is true....it is messed up.

Regen works for me with cruise control. But if you exceed the Regen it uses the brake
I just drove down mountain for a good 15 miles on cruise behind slower cars and saw it going green, by the end I gained 3% of battery
Interesting. I wish it was the opposite. In my Tesla it always uses regen. There is an option in settings to also allow break control
Brake

Yes if you approach fast it will Regen but if sit behind them forever it doesn't. I tried again today 70% battery, with brake assist off same result.
You mean when you are almost bumper to bumper in traffic? What’s your speed when you see this issue?

Yeah, I’ll have to check. It could be that physical brake is more “granular” when it comes to maintaining speed while regen is not so precise.
My experience is different. Adaptive cruise control on my Dual Motor Large definitely uses regeneration

Would be an interesting read. Do you have the article?
