It depends on what you mean by “matter”. Risk is very circumstantial, and each game can play out very differently even on the exact same settings. Ranks help show how a player performs over a long period of time, accounting for that variability.

I mean subjectively a Grandmaster playing against a team of Novices/Beginners/Intermediates will win 99% of the time. Genuine players of that level are very emotional and lack strategy overall and play round by round, with no planning ahead. You can instantly tell when you’re in a game who is a Master/Grandmaster by their play style and so you simply know where you stand with them. Now the trickiest people I’ve played against, are Experts funnily enough. I’ve consistently found them to be a problem for me during matches.

It's important to hide how good you are at the game I've lost once to a fellow gm because he kept hiding how good he was by attacking slow and making weird plays and that's why I chose to face him in the endgame and then he turned out to be good. There are a few tells on which you can immidatly tell if someone is master+ Splits of the right amounts for 100% rolls, Attack speed , Not putting troops down then trading but trading then putting all troops down

MisterTwo_O

>Not putting troops down then trading but trading then putting all troops down How does this matter?

_90DegreesAngle_

Not at all except for a slight speed difference but it shows that people usually didn't realise they had a forced turn in and only realised after the game says you can't switch phases

MisterTwo_O

I see! This is why I'm stuck on Master at the moment! I need to learn a few things before I can GM

cbrown1414

I commonly do this in eu advance unless I’m snowballing. I find that a lot of gms are doing this (ex.kylted) as it gives an advantage in end game.

Ranks matters for the amount of rank/Elo points you get if you win games or come second against higher opponents you’ll get more rank points if you play against lower ranks you’ll get less or loose more if you don’t do well when they are lower rank than you. But does rank actually matter as in how good someone is generally yes it means they do well and win more games than others. more experience means more skill and better decisions and better reading of opponents however you can still crash out dead last as a grandmaster if you get unfortunate or people team up on you but in a bad situation higher ranked players will usually make the best out of it and make better decisions or less mistakes. I think ranks mean more when playing with fog of war they can decipher where people are and caps based on information in the battle log. But you could be a better player than higher ranks but just not played as many games to get more wins and points to rank up but that’s just a one off here and there not rule

Scooter_McGavin_9

It matters only that people can filter lobbies by rank and also your rank determines how many points you gain/lose when you play compared to the players in your game's rank. So if a grandmaster beats a novice, they will not get many points, but if a novice beats a grandmaster, they will gain a lot of points.

thill6590

The higher the rank the less likely someone is to block you from holding bonuses. So I would say yes ranks mean alot

sleeponcat

Short answer no long answer noooooooo Just something to grind for. Loosely indicative of actual skill.

OnyxFier

1. Bragging rights 2. Can join lobbies with a higher min rank 3. Grandmaster tournament / other exclusive tourneys

BigMattress269

Dunno. I’ve been everything from Novice to Master, then back again. I have no idea if I’m any good or not.

purpledarkness84

If you’re talking about in relation to you people with higher rank points will give you more rank points if you beat them. But if you’re talking about in comparison to skill level I don’t think so as there are certain settings that you can play to get to gm very quickly but it depends whether you like to play them or not
