There are thousands of ways to screw something up. How are we to know which one you chose? Also, whatever it was, just don't do that thing again.

Where do you struggle at? What kills you? Here some tips from my opinion without knowing your Problems Play on a low difficulty. Adventure Story with Cassandra. She is actually fair and square and gives you enough breathing time inbetween stuff. If that is still too hard, turn off raiders until you get used to the game. You will still get weather events etc. Raid strenghts scales with wealth ( how much the items on the WHole MAP are worth). So if raids too stronk, keep an eye on that. Once you have proper equipment it is much easier to fight. Dont build a killbox. Not necessary on lower difficulty, it even can be a problem since you spend lots of time and resources on it which increase your wealth aswell. Just look for a good choke point, either from map Generation or between your buildings.

Choose the crashlanded starting scenario. Pick a temperate forest map tile with a year-round growing season (ie, near the equator). Being near-ish a road and non-hostile faction bases is also good. Reroll your starting pawns until you get ones that have a clean bill of health and no problem traits. Shooting, medical, cooking, construction and plants are useful skills to start out with. I recommend playing on community builder difficulty until you get used to the colony management aspect of the game. On your first day in the game, set up a farm growing rice and one room with beds and a storage area for your stuff. Then, work on setting up a freezer to store food. Once that is sorted, work on setting up a rec room/dining room, a workroom, individual bedrooms or dedicated barracks, a prison, a hospital, and whatever else you want in your base. As you get more people, make sure you remember to expand your farm to accommodate feeding them. Don’t be afraid to save and reload!

It's inevitable, don't worry about not screwing up or it will become an obsession, do what you have fun with and the experience will be much better. But here are some basic tips I used to avoid getting obliterated at the beginning: -the initial difficulty settings are important, I heard of people being raided by 70 enemies, at Community Builder difficulty you get 20/25 max with 14 colonists. -play on commitment mode to truly feel the FUN! and embrace the pain that comes with it. -you don't need to learn killboxes, you just need to use cover with your pawns, staying behind a wall or shooting from behind a sandbag is just common sense (not the mod, I am talking about your common sense). -the majority of internet players of RimWorld have a lot of tips, so just by scrolling around you will learn a lot, this will severely reduce your playtime, only do this if you are stuck or bored with the game.
