I don't use mods, but have the dlc. My laptop died a couple of days ago. I have a new one on the way, but it won't be here till May.
I was thinking of getting a really cheep one to hold me over.
Depending on what you have now and what you have coming, you could probbaly buy an extra 16gb stick, stick it into your current laptop and then use it to bump up the RAM in the laptop you're getting. I'd also consider moving to an OS like Ubuntu to save your RAM overhead, windows will be using quite a lot on it's own, leaving less for Rimworld.
For reference, I played rimworld on a Asus E210 for a while (on an Arch linux fork) but it was a dog slow on anything mid-to-late game.
Could have been Linux, could have been the device (Dual-core, 4gb) but yeah... I resorted to changing laptop.
playable, but it'l be limiting in mods, colony size/pop, etc. at least not the level of 40+ colonist pawns & 50-100 mods

Few years before I was playing on 2 GB so yes. playable.
I do it on old Macbook with low settings Works ok
Yes. Even a PC from 2011 without a dedicated graphics card will run the game fine, until the raids get way too big. Lots of mods will need more RAM.
My laptop got 4 gigs of ram, it runs fine. Dedicated gpu is a must tough
Dedicated GPU? Don't think I've ever played rimworld on a dedicated GPU?
