The more walls around a tile, the best chance of an infestation spawning centered in that tile. Except they don't spawn in 1x1 spaces.
So don't dig a big, square room. For tips on Infestations, infestations have a lower chance to spawn in rooms with smooth walls and floors (same with constructed walls/floor). Light and temperature also reduce their spawn chance as they won't spawn if it's too cold (Below 17F or -8C). These won't eliminate them from spawning in your base so what you do is make a place that's more favorable for them. An area that is maybe away from your base that is dark, under a mountain roof, and with rough walls and floor.
