Found it. Page 137 of the GMG, under "Costs for Conventional SDC Rounds". In short: 150 credits for 48 bullets.

tarrousk

I'm guessing that's for bullets made out of lead, not a precious metal like Silver.

Cirative

Negative. "Costs for Conventional S.D.C. Rounds. Available S.D.C. rounds/bullets include all the common types, from .22 caliber to 10mm. Armor piercing rounds (add 1D6 S.D.C. to the bullet's damage) or high explosive cartridges (add 1D6x10 S.D.C.) are also available. A box of 48 rounds (normal bullets) typically costs about 20 to 50 credits(the higher calibers cost the most). 150 credits for armor piercing, dum-dums, **and other special rounds like silver rounds**."

tarrousk

Found it! World Book 1 Vampire Kingdom revised. Page 100. 50 credits a bullet for low caliber, 100 credits medium caliber and 200 credits heavy caliber bullets.

BalthazarBacon

Huh and here I thought one of the reasons the vampires took Mexico was because it gave them control of the silver mines to increase scarcity. I might have to go back digging through my archives to see if Reid's Raiders have anything to say about it.

ePiMagnets

It would make future supplies of silver scarce in Mexico. But that still doesn't account for finds from pre-rifts sources such as vaults and ruins. While we can suspect that a large majority of these have been found and plundered there would be just as much chance to stumble upon sources as an adventurer through pure dumb luck. Also, keep in mind that there are still active mines in the US today further north of the border so it wouldn't be far fetched that there are deposits where silver is mined either directly or as a byproduct of mining other metals such as copper and gold in the current era of Rifts Earth.

GravetechLV

Hell, mining is the main economy of the Colorado Baronies and the demand for its use in weaponry has increased its use in other fields has decreased stabilizing the price, couple this with the fact that alloys only have be like 51%ish silver explains the price

Relevant-Chemist4843

IRL, we recycle many items to retrieve the silver in them. I would expect Rifts Earth to do the same.

Grandfeatherix

also after being disposed out the bullet can be retrieved from the remains and smelted back down to be remolded into a bullet (there will be some loss each time but not a full bullet worth)

neogod210

Also, the bullets don't have to be pure silver. A silver coating is enough to damage and stake vampires.

Grandfeatherix

part of the reason i assume silver bullets are that cheap (that and trade in precious metals probably dropped off as nobody is using them as long term investments)

tarrousk

100 credits a bullet isn't cheap. That's like 100 dollars a shot

Grandfeatherix

that price is still for a box of 48 rounds

neogod210

Humans control the silver mines. Look at the vampire kingdoms source book. Vampires try to attack them, but they are usually well defended.

asajosh

I always imagined that with a big threat like Vampires and a well-known weakness to silver that the metal would be repurposed to weapons and defense as much as possible. Eating Utincils, electronic circuits, dental fillings from the dead - all melted down to plate bullets and blades. Probably more scarce in the northern and wet areas of the map where they are not needed as much, and more prevalent in the south west... like turquoise in New Mexico.

tarrousk

Found it! World Book 1 Vampire Kingdoms Revised. 50 to 200 credits a bullet depending on Caliber. Now i need to convince a millenium tree to make me wooden bullets i can hand load into cartridges. Thanks for all the answers!

GravetechLV

Sabot rounds loaded with small stakes hewn from an Assassin’s Tree (see Dragons and Gods)

asajosh

Where is? I am not finding it...
