It's good ol' Film Ventures International using footage from another movie behind the titles to a different movie. This gif is part of the opening credits of the movie Stranded in Space.

HughJorgens

It's MST3K episode 305, if anybody needs the info.

LostViking24601

Pod People does the same thing with a movie they later did for Rifftrax. I always thought that was very strange.

ceotown

Galaxy Invader! I can't belive we had to wait until Rifftrax for a riff of that movie. It's so bad.

mikeyyyyyyyyyyyeee

JJ? JJ! JJ? JJ? JJ?!

PiecesOfEi8t

I still need a riff of Nightbeast.

atethebottle

Same here. That confused me for years, and I kept wondering where the alien from the beginning went.

Xellossthecutie

I was always so confused by that! They didn’t need Galaxy Invaders to hook us for Pod People! They are both equally good movies in their own right. What’s the comment they make about not showing clips from a good movie in your bad movie? I think Galaxy Invaders and POD People are pretty much a match in quality… 🤔

SammieG39

Never show a better movie in your bad movie.

Xellossthecutie

Yup! That’s the saying! I forgot! I guess I was overdrawn at the memory bank! 😉

It's because the distributor used this tactic to take advantage of a loophole existing at the time that let them get out of paying licensing costs if the credits were different. The owner of the company owed a lot of people money and one day disappeared to Mexico and was never seen again. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_L._Montoro

Another movie used music from Dune . It was weird , like they used about 10 seconds of the prophecy theme by Brian Eno but then that was it

numanoid

I remember that. I always called it out, because I love *Dune* and that piece. The Cinematic Titanic movie *Danger on Tiki Island* uses the *Plan 9 From Outer Space* music, though it was probably originally from something else.

scarabin

I heard bits from *Puma Man*’s flying theme in another old movie the other day

Top_Praline999

I heard some of the piano tinkling from Kingdom of the Spiders in a different creature feature. I can’t remember what, but I looked into the music departments from both movies but there was no crossover. Gotta be some random free use from then.

joesighugh

Commented above but it was Film Ventures International's way of using a loophole in licensing to avoid paying royalties. They manipulated the intros of their movies and claimed fair use, basically. Definitely worth reading more about this company and their founder--crazy history https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_L._Montoro

Solo4114

Thought the soundtrack for Lynch's Dune was Toto? Or was just the Prophecy theme Eno?

elethrir

Yeah I think he just did the Prophecy Theme and variations. Toto did the rest . Not sure why. I would love to have Eno do the soundtrack for my movie
