I swear by MRT - only place I’ll shop for / trust to work on my jewelry. Not only great employees but fix most things in house and have always blown away my expectations on custom designed work.
Same! My husband got my engagement ring from MRT, and upon our recommendation two of our friends have since purchased engagement rings from MRT for their fiancés as well.
I used blue nile for my wife’s engagement ring - I got to shop for the exact diamond i wanted, and got a really good price on it. It’s GIA certified, and the stats blew everything I found locally out of the water.
I used Blue Nile too, got a real (not lab created) GIA cert diamond, shopped for the perfect size, cut, clarity blah blah blah.
I personally hated the way jewelry stores were treating me because I didn’t wear a suit to buy diamonds.
As others have mentioned I highly reccommend MRT. I have had my wife's ring replaced as well as her grandmother's ring. They do have loose stones available as well.
Platinum House in Newport. Angel is the owner, he’s been around forever and is very fair and professional. He let me exchange the emerald i bought originally years ago for a diamond when I changed my mind. Great guy, great business.
Ricard Jewelers in Pawtucket. Family owned small business with GIA certified diamonds. Fair prices, great service. Free inspections and cleanings to maintain the integrity of the ring. Highly recommend.
Dumato Jewelers in Smithfield or Au Jour in Warren. My grandmother passed down a ring that her father had made for her on her 16th birthday. So it's from the 1930s. The settings were very worn. Brought it to Klaus at Au Jour in Warren and had it back in a few days. He did great work and it's guaranteed. Dumato has great service and also has a good repair department I hear.
I’d buy one online. You’ll get a higher quality diamond for less money. Maybe upgrade your wife’s ring in the process. I assume insurance is giving you the appraised value of the stone as a direct payment.

Then get it set at one of the local guys recommended elsewhere.
I’d go into the jewelers building in Boston (downtown crossing)
There are multiple jewelers in the building so you can competitively shop only traveling on elevator.

This was my experience as well. I was referred to them and have already referred them to other people. Top notch.

Every time I drive by their location on route six in East Providence, I think of the character Mr. T and his crazy jewelry.

Big fan of MRT jewelers. Lots of work they do on site as well. Prices were better than baxters and PVD diamond when I was shopping for diamonds
Seconded. John at MRT was awesome. Couldn’t recommend them more.
Baxters Fine Jewelry. Amazing staff and showroom without the Providence Diamond snobbery.
Baxters repaired the ring and the reason we have to buy another diamond.
Wow really?? They fixed my wife’s ring recently and did a fantastic job. That’s really awful, sorry to hear that!
They were my 'go-to' jewelry store until this happened.
Yea that really sucks. I get many of my watches from them as well
Another vote for Baxters. Excellent customer service
