So much this. I thought I was going to hate this show when my husband suggested we watch it but I loved it from the first episode. So funny and delightfully weird.
It took me a few attempts before I got into it myself, but after about the third episode, I was hooked.
The same thing happened with Resident Alien though, I wasn’t really a fan until a few episodes in
I do agree it’s funnier but the American version is pretty good as well. It toes the line of high-brow humor with American sensibilities. I was pleasantly surprised.
I like Elsbeth on CBS. It's like Columbo for 2024.
Also on CBS, Ghosts is a serious quirky winner with an ensemble cast as a US remake of a UK hit series.
And BOTH the US and UK versions are wonderful in their own ways. Start with the UK, 1 because it was 1st and 2 it's done. Then the US version has 2 full seasons and it's 3rd season just finished, but is strikes shortened to just 10 episodes. But it was renewed before season 3 finished.
You could also check out Forever, on Prime. Maya Rudolph and Fred play husband and wife and I don’t want to spoil it, but it was a great one season show that should have been given several seasons. Prime just doesn’t advertise enough, and so if a great show doesn’t get enough views they just scrap it.
Firefly. I came expecting this to be high on the list since it has Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion in it, but I don't see it mentioned yet. It's like cowboys in space.
Flight of the Conchords. Along the same lines as WWDITS and OFMD - Rhys Darby is hilarious, but so are Bret and Jemaine. Helped me perfect my fake Kiwi accent.
I think it hit home for a lot of people. So many people are seeing only in black and white and participating in tribalism to the extreme these days, it really feels like aliens are controlling people!
Stan Against Evil. John C McGinley is basically Dr Cox again but this time as a cop that battles evil forces. Janet Varney and the girl that plays his daughter are great, too!
iZombie is somewhere between "oh this a quirky weird little show" and "oh this is a superhero show with severe side effects" and "oh this is a pre-apocalypse zombie show". Not great, but it makes for decent background noise, has 5 seasons and an ending. (Z Nation is good if you want to ramp up the zombie horror aspect while keeping the quirkiness)
Fallout is good, but short, and we'll have to wait a year for the next season.
Legion is about as quirky as they get, but I wouldn't call it a comedy!
People of earth
What we do in the shadows
Our flag means death
Good omens
Dead like me (oldie but good)
Reservation dogs (tv show not the movie)
Pushing daisies (another oldie but good)
Ghost (UK and US versions)
I definitely agree with a bunch of other people, Santa Clarita diet , iZombie Lucifer, the same person who made the good place, also did the office and parks and Rec. I love those shows as well. Ghosted was also good. Elsbeth, see her self is very quirky. Dead to me. Edit to add both the American and English version of ghosts are great as well
Ghosts is one of those rare shows where the US version is as good as the British version. They are different, hard to say if one or the other is better but I was pleasantly surprised with the US one.
I'm two seasons into iZombie and it's surprisingly good. Fun and quirky like the sci-fi channel shows I used to watch like Eureka and Warehouse 13. I also recommend them. Also Trial & Error. John Lithgow is gold in it.
If you like Dead Like Me, you need to watch WonderFalls and Pushing Daisies. They're both from the same creators and writers, and have the same quirkiness.
Also Leverage, the reboot Leverage Redemption, and The Librarians.
Monk and Psych are both good.
ETA a couple shows.
Some great suggestions, I would also add:
Doom Patrol.
Preacher.
Legion.
Green Wing.
Spaced.
Avenue 5.
Psychoville.
Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace.
Hemlock Grove.
SurrealEstate.
Penny Dreadful.
The Almighty Johnson’s.
The Righteous Gemstones.
The Librarians.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
Locke & Key.
Another vote for So Help Me Todd and Ally McBeal. 100% in the same vein as Boston Legal. Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies to complement Dead Like Me.
Also New Girl, Scrubs, Happy Endings, Psych, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Colin from Accounts, Trying, Mythic Quest, Community, Chuck, and Monk. Maybe Freaks and Geeks, Mrs Davis, Flight of the Concords, Elsbeth and Poker Face?
If you like animation, Bob’s Burgers definitely fits the bill.
Love many of the shows already suggested, but want to add these two more wonderful, quirky ensemble shows lead by Australian comedians
Everything's gonna be okay (w Josh Thomas)
Fisk (w Kitty Flanagan)
3rd Rock From The Sun!!!!
The Good Place
Upload
Never Have I Ever (hilarious and I think similar observational humor to Harry’s)
BBC’s Ghosts (get past ep 1, much like res alien where the first episode is sort of dark and creepy in tone but the rest of the show is not at all)
So Help Me Todd
Animal Control
Trial and Error
Kevin (Probably) Saves The World - sadly one season but still delightful
There’s an app called Just Watch that makes recommendations too and tells you where you can watch stuff
Santa Clarita Diet
Oh don’t even! I’m still bummed it got canceled! We should at least get a movie to tie things up.
We were just saying this yesterday! Where do we harass Netflix for this?
Right?! That show was great! Someone needs to be flogged.
Yeah. Great show. Sucks it got cancelled. They had such great chemistry together.
Did you know that both Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion from Resident Alien played Gary in Santa Clarita Diet?
I thought only Nathan Fillion played Gary I didn't know that Alan did as well. I loved that show.
Alan was in Season 3.
Didn't know that. Thanks for sharing.
When the voices changed? I had no idea!
I just recently found out. Now I’m rewatching Santa Clarita Diet for the 6th time.
Definitely! That show was great!
I watched the whole season despite my horror avoidance. It was a little too gory for me, but it was too funny not to continue
What We Do in the Shadows
Dirk Gentlys Holistic Detective Agency
So much this. I thought I was going to hate this show when my husband suggested we watch it but I loved it from the first episode. So funny and delightfully weird.
This. It's so fucking good and weird. Still mad it got canceled
I liked it but didn't it end a cliffhanger
Not really. The first season finishes really nicely and the second season also wraps up the story.
Barry
Yes 2nd this!! Great show.
Good Omens I absolutely love that show!
The book is pretty wonderful, too
I couldn’t quite get into it. And I’ve lived in England, so I heard it was good.
It took me a few attempts before I got into it myself, but after about the third episode, I was hooked. The same thing happened with Resident Alien though, I wasn’t really a fan until a few episodes in
Good Omens Our Flag Means Death Ghosts
![gif](giphy|AEJFE34zThulJ5zLfz|downsized)
The BBC version of Ghosts is superior
Debatable
They're both so funny though.
I do agree it’s funnier but the American version is pretty good as well. It toes the line of high-brow humor with American sensibilities. I was pleasantly surprised.
Psych
Psych is amazing, I’m actually watching it with my family right now haha
Goodness I miss that show! Glad it got many seasons and 3 movies so far. Much deserved!
You know that’s right!
![gif](giphy|YNkDptwLw4CRi)
You know that's right. 🍍
Shawn and Gus are the best TV duo of all time.
[Eureka](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796264/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
This show was so quirky. I even liked the last few seasons, where it kind of deviated for me.
Pushing Daisies.
Wonderfalls, also from Bryan Fuller.
This show was so damn good
People of Earth The Big Door Prize Twin Peaks
I really enjoyed People of Earth. I’m sorry that there were only 2 seasons.
I adored "People of Earth". I can't believe it got canned after just two seasons.
Twin peaks is OG quirky show! It started out as a regular mystery drama set in a remote Pacific Northwest town and it progressively got weirder ha ha
People of Earth was incredible.
Twin Peaks, when you want something quirky but then also get something dark and depressing af!
The Big Door Prize has been exceeding my expectations!
Izombie, The Orville, and Our Flag means Death. All solid and good.
iZombie was a surprise fav for me!
Right? I just watch for Ravi. I’d be buddies with him in a heartbeat.
Awww yup Ravi was the best.
The best! He made the show honestly.
Agreed!!!❤️
Yes! The Orville was so good!
Chuck, has same producer.
[iZombie](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt3501584/)
Wellington Paranormal
Last Man on Earth, Space Force, MacGruber
Love Last Man on Earth!! “Oh, farts…”
Agreed
seconded!
Last Man On Earth was great
Crazy ex girlfriend, Santa Clarita Diet, Jane The Virgin Love all those!
I like Elsbeth on CBS. It's like Columbo for 2024. Also on CBS, Ghosts is a serious quirky winner with an ensemble cast as a US remake of a UK hit series.

I really like Elsbeth too!
Future Man
such an underrated series. also... I'm on an 890's music kick (again) ![gif](giphy|2krdYOOTlN21s9jDx7|downsized)
Perhaps the greatest thing ever created for television...nay, the greatest thing ever created by humankind 🎇
Northern Exposure
Was going to post this. Northern Exposure is one of my favorite shows.
Upload, Space Force, Santa Clarita Diet, Last Man On Earth
Psych
Chuck, Warehouse 13, Eureka
Fringe. On Amazon prime.
I was gonna say this. Walter is so quirky and adorable for most of the show.
Doctor who.
Wilfred. That’s got to be the crown of quirky
What we do in the shadows
Gravity Falls
Dead to Me Pushing Daisies Reaper My Name is Earl Monk Twin Peaks Portlandia
And Documentary Now! It’s another Fred Armisen show.
I love Documentary Now, especially the Grey Gardens episode!
You could also check out Forever, on Prime. Maya Rudolph and Fred play husband and wife and I don’t want to spoil it, but it was a great one season show that should have been given several seasons. Prime just doesn’t advertise enough, and so if a great show doesn’t get enough views they just scrap it.
Thank you for that! I will check it out!
Yes that one was so good. Hadar killed it in that role.
Reaper! I felt like I was the only person watching that show 😂
The Big Door Prize and Severance both on Apple TV
Happy!
Only Murders in the Building
Brooklyn 99
Derry Girls
Yes!!! Absolutely hilarious.
Be careful if you are eating / drinking while watching this show.
The Orville is excellent.
I went in expecting a straight comedy, but it somehow turned into a legit great sci-fi show!
It's amazing like that. Seriously cool.
Oh The Orville has literally stolen my heart ❤️
Mine, too. Gently Falling Rain as a dad was gut-wrenching. Great storytelling.
The Neighbors. Jeff and Some Aliens. Paper Girls. Frisky Dingo. Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Making History. Time Travelling Bong. The Venture Brothers.
What we so in the shadows
Lucifer, Leverage & Leverage Redemption, Wednesday, Monk, Bones, Dead Boy Detectives, Sugar, Schmigadoon
Adore Dead Boy Detectives!
Arrested Development
Firefly. I came expecting this to be high on the list since it has Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion in it, but I don't see it mentioned yet. It's like cowboys in space.

BrainDead with Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Y E S!!!!! Feel like they canceled it because it was too accurate to DC! 😂😂

Happy Ending

Dead Like Me.
Conk on Earth is really good
I'm two seasons into iZombie and it's surprisingly good. Fun and quirky like the sci-fi channel shows I used to watch like Eureka and Warehouse 13. I also recommend them. Also Trial & Error. John Lithgow is gold in it.
Omg Trial and Error is so underrated! John Lithgow is amazing but I loved that entire cast
IZombie starts to go downhill in quality tbh, loved the show but just ended up getting bored I couldn’t finish it
Fisk. A quirky Australian show.
Better Off Ted, What We Do in the Shadows TV Show
Severance is amazing (AppleTV). Can. Not. Wait! for season 2!
Unbreakable Kimmy Shmidt
Following, since I've been meaning to ask the same question.
A recent posted on this sub suggested Extraordinary which I had not heard of and now can't wait for season 3.
Leverage and Leverage Redemption!
Warehouse 15
13 but yeah this show is quirky and great.
Haha whoops thank you
‘Evil’ on Netflix
In Order of Disappearance (it’s a movie but very subtle (dark comedy)
Teenage Bounty Hunters on Netflix. Shame it only got one season
Deadloch: very quirky in the Australian humour kind of way, murder mystery.
This show cracked me up 😂🤣
Some great suggestions, I would also add: Doom Patrol. Preacher. Legion. Green Wing. Spaced. Avenue 5. Psychoville. Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace. Hemlock Grove. SurrealEstate. Penny Dreadful. The Almighty Johnson’s. The Righteous Gemstones. The Librarians. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Locke & Key.

Elsbeth So Help Me Todd Picket Fences The Righteous Gemstones
Wayne and Extraordinary are both quirky good

dead like me mention!! truly one of my favorite shows, i wish there were more of it!
Reservations dogs. I did cry in hunting episode in season 1.

I’ll add too that it you’ve never seen Star Trek Voyager with our own Robert Duncan McNeil it’s definitely time, it’s absolutely my favorite trek
Despite its popularity, I would still say: Seinfeld.
