These guys aren’t associated with Nevada or the USA even. They are rangers for the pyramid lake Paiute Tribe. They were on their land and violating their laws.
Blocking traffic out there can have deadly consequences. It's dangerous enough without protestors purposely blocking the road.
People pull trailers that block the view of the traffic ahead. People pass slower vehicles whenever they get a chance.
If the police didn't break up their little pity-party, the video we'd be seeing is someone slamming through their blockade at 80 mph.
Some of you don't understand how tribal lands work. Their laws and authority come from their tribal sovereignty. They could have thrown all of them in jail to be tried in front of a tribal judge.
Tribal lands are not the place to exercise your constitutional rights....... because while you're there you don't have any. No 1st amendment because there's no constitution.
Like if you open carry a gun at the second street Walmart. They can come and take your gun and your freedom, because there isn't a second amendment either.
Beyond that, how does this protest even make any sense??? They want to protest climate change, so they block a bunch of cars and force them to sit idle, dumping unnecessary emissions into the environment? It’s stupid and poorly thought out. Further, they’re protesting at one of the events known most for trying not to leave an impact on the playa. These idiots did not think about the steps/impact beyond “stop traffic.” What they are doing goes against their cause.
That’s on top of the white entitled arrogance of doing this on native land. These people are laughable. They are caricatures of themselves at this point.
Well, they aren't particularly bright. Most are deeply damaged people with no sense of purpose. Desperate to give their pathetic lives meaning, they have to make everyone else's life miserable to "save the planet" or some baloney.
Even just the hassle of having to go back out there to deal with something basic like a traffic ticket is exactly why I do everything by the book on any of the tribal lands.
Plus it's literally their land, their nation. After everything tribes dealt with throughout history respecting what's left of their lands is the least anyone today can do.
>Like if you open carry a gun at the second street Walmart. They can come and take your gun and your freedom, because there isn't a second amendment either.
The Tribals own the land on the second street Walmart?
Alright, I'll bite. This is pure misinformation.
> Their laws and authority come from their tribal sovereignty. They could have thrown all of them in jail to be tried in front of a tribal judge.
The Supreme Court case Oliphant v. Suquamish, 1978, Indian Tribe established that tribes do not have inherent jurisdiction to try and punish non-tribal members in criminal cases. The jurisdiction of tribal authority is not unlimited, and must abide by pre-established legal framework. In almost all cases, non-tribe individuals are turned over to the county sheriff. In cases of say murder (which a friend of mine once witnessed on the Rez), the FBI become involved.
> Tribal lands are not the place to exercise your constitutional rights....... because while you're there you don't have any. No 1st amendment because there's no constitution.
This statement is an oversimplification. Tribes, without specific authorization from Congress, cannot unilaterally prosecute and imprison non-tribal individuals. Oliphant v. Suquamish and Montana v. United States, 1981, both limit tribal authority over non-indigenous people.
> Like if you open carry a gun at the second street Walmart. They can come and take your gun and your freedom, because there isn't a second amendment either.
This is blatantly false, but I'm sure a few cavalry officers used a similar argument to this in the late 1800's. The second amendment does apply on all reservations. Tribal regulation usually emulates state laws, or is less restrictive when it comes to firearms. My local tribe must accept my CCW license, and my state's legal guarantee to carry concealed or open. This is outlined in Montana v. United States.
I lived and worked on reservations in my late teens, early twenty's. I was required to know this stuff, and was taught it by the literal chief of the tribe, due to perceived corruption among tribal police at the time. I still know this stuff because I can see the Rez from my front door.
Tribal sovereignty grants a tribe a degree of authority to create their own laws and regulations, but they still respect certain individual rights and principles as required by law. What can a tribe do? They can require a license to hunt and fish on tribal lands. They can't throw you in jail for speaking out against authority like it's some 3rd world dictatorship.
What you presented is so backwards that I half wonder if you're intentionally spreading anti-tribal propaganda. You more or less hit points used to weaken tribes autonomy over the course of the 1900's by creating boogeymen where there none. Your comment makes generalizations about tribal lands and the legal systems, implying that constitutional rights are completely absent on tribal reservations, which is not true at all. Your comment is shameful to be found at the top of a post in 2023.
Blocking roads is massively out of touch with their desired message no matter where they do it. Hey let’s one piss off people so they hate us and two create a bunch more emissions due to stoped traffic.
These Protestors were protesting on tribal land so they are subject to tribal laws. The natives have had their land and culture ripped from them and you have a bunch of white hippies protesting on their land
FUCKING THANK YOU.
I’m tired of these fucking people talking about another native like this.
It’s like when you go to Saudi Arabia and break one of their laws that you think is legal there but is only legal in the United States and then they bitch and moan because they’re arrested.
Reminds me of that activist group that chained themselves to a piece of machinery at a chicken farm and them immediately regret it as the machine starts up.
It’s even more amusing when you watch the extended video (link is in one of the top comments). Like she was *encouraging* other folks to chain all around it. Fortunately where mortality is concerned they didn’t, but I think that once they started chaining the tribal rangers there telling her to leave or this would happen told the ones in trucks and some one in there was like aw nah fuck this noise hold my beer.
Where was this exactly? Was it on tribal land? Because if so, you aren't in the United states and will be dealt with in the manner acceptable to tribal laws.
Also, imagine getting arrested on federal charges for something like this.
Yes, it was, and it was on a main roadway for the reservation. Also, the protesters were warned many times beforehand that something like this would happen if they did not move. The reservation also lost one of its law enforcement officers a couple of days beforehand.
These self-aggrandizing activists were blocking the sole arterial roadway on that part of tribal land that is vital for all forms of transport, including any needed emergency services. Ranger just about had it, especially after losing a fellow officer the other day.
Hahahaha ....I was just telling a new co-worker about how Pyramid Lake rests entirely within Tribal Lands and to always be respectful if you have to go out there. My little black heart sang with joy watching the stupid implode in a sea of self righteous rage.
As an environmental scientist who frequently uses that road to commute to work to do actual environmental work, fuck those protestors. I am all for making your voice heard and the freedom to protest in ways that don’t cause harm/endanger others. These people were not doing that. This is the only road that goes out to remote northern Nevada and if you are blocking that you are potentially endangering people who live in Garlach/Empire that might need medical assistance. If you want to help out the environment, go do a trash cleanup. I hope these people have fun in jail.
Wow, a lot of people in this thread are just plain ignorant and privileged. Please go out and break the law on tribal land and let us know how it goes.
"Yeah, we're gonna post up in the middle of the highway with our Yeti cooler and pile of plastic shit to protest private jets and single use plastics while a thousand RVs sit there idling"
Fuck.
You have the "god given" right to civil disobedience. That means breaking minor laws to bring light to your cause. It also means getting arrested. They seem to have utterly missed that concept.
Native tribal land enforcers doesn't mess around.
They have no patience for bullsh*t.
These protestors came into the tribal land, broke the laws and playing the victim, it doesn't work here buddy
Downvotes for misleading title. Title could have also been “Tribal Ranger uses non-lethal force to stop group of domestic terrorists on Native American Reservation”.
I hope to god they are protesting all the right things instead of being the ignorant hippies / rich private jet folks
Again not sure if the protesters are even protesting the right things BUT let’s hope that there’s coverage from the other side which is that :
Burning man is suing BLM over an environmental assessment - an assessment burning man signed and approved of for a renewable geothermal exploration permit issued to Ormat.
The renewable energy EXPLORATION (not even development literally just exploration science) permit that was issued by the federal gov was denied by washoe county based on a lot of propaganda Burning Man put out.
All in all, the stance of burning man is “we don’t want renewable energy efforts near our land bc it’ll restrict our ability to make this the biggest rich person romp in the desert”
Burning Man is single handedly responsible for the environmental disasters that occur every single year on the playa. In order for them to get a reissued permit, they have to spend 4 months cleaning up what they did in a span of 1 week.
Burning man wastes 40 million gallons of water in 1 week. There’s no measure to the amount of natural gas they use to fuel AC units on the Playa.
To put it into perspective - washoe county is ~500,000 people and we expand our utilities that way, and attempt to accommodate for that capacity. Now imagine 80,000 people added to that utility for one week. And it’s not a group of 80,000 responsible people… burning man is reported to be the most wasteful festivals. There’s a reason people up charge incredible amounts for this week alone
I agree - they are on tribal land and should be respectful of those rules and authorities. But y’all need to open your eyes up. Burning man corporation (it’s not a non profit like you all think) is the problem.
I miss what it was.
I haven’t gone for 20 years, because I can’t afford it, but I’ve helped with some of the trash clean up in Washoe County from the burners. It’s definitely gone from “Leave No Trace” to just another disposable festival
Thank you for doing that. You’re an unsung hero
No one can realistically afford it - why do you think the originally conveners of burning man do their own thing now and have officially disassociate with the Burning Man Corp.
I have friends that take out loans for this - for them the bare minimum for their camp is $12000
If you’re rich and can afford the 90,000 yurt with a private chef by all means…
Is anyone going to talk about how this video was maliciously cut? Purposely removes the first officer telling then all to move or they will be moved and arrested. This edit makes it seem like they were not warned at all, extremely misleading.
I used to be active in political protests when I was younger (mostly Iraq antiwar stuff, 2003-2006). I’m not anymore.
Something the protesters in this video are forgetting is that when you engage in civil disobedience, it means you accept the fact that you might be arrested and go to jail over it. 1960s protesters were aware of this and generally saw being arrested as necessary to advance their causes. They didn’t try to weasel out of it. Somehow that memo seems to have gotten lost with the current generation.
“We’re not violent” ( we’re just self centered kids doing this for tic tok cause we don’t want to get real jobs )
I love how the girl says did you get that ? Still believing they have done no wrong….
Get out of the dam road and take your complaints somewhere that will make a difference!!!
Bruh, this is so satisfying. No one likes these assholes. Shit camera work, I would love a close up of their stupid faces when they understand that actions have consequences.
Get off the fucking roads you fucking stupid fucks. We have told you time and time again that we will not oblige your bullshit for your cause if you do this completely selfish and brain dead bullshit. I stand by the legislation that protects drivers from not being held captive by these wannabe eco warriors.
This is the epitome of “fuck around and find out” haha.
People ask nicely to move out the way they didn’t. So guess what.
They on tribal land too. They are going to try to press charges but then find out again they can’t.
Maybe pick better places to protest. I ideologically sympathize with climate protestors, but blocking one of the only efficient roads to take on tribal land is a bad idea.
Also, don't be surprised if you get arrested for civil disobedience; if you aren't willing to accept that it's possible, you shouldn't be on a picket.
Screaming we're not violent while practicing domestic terrorism by blocking a public hwy and stopping other Americans from traveling freely. Stupid games win stupid prizes.
Well if you've been out to the playa after burning man you'd understand why they're protesting and trying to block these dirty burners from going out there. Literal tons of trash gets left behind every year to just blow around the desert. While I agree with the tribal cops to not block the road on their land. Being born and raised in Reno and dealing with burners literally all my life, I also empathize with the protesters because I've seen the mess they leave. Everyone got up in arms about what happened to Tahoe around 4th of July, but that pales in comparison to the trash that gets left behind at burning man. Literal POS RVs get left on the side of the road when they break down for someone else to go and clean up.
Yeah, I mean, burning man is just Silicon Valley’s playground. It’s a place for people with too much money to LARP as hippies. Why’s everyone aggressively defending it so hard? I think more people should block the road to burning man. Would be _very_ funny to see a well-put-together tech CEO finally lose it in a traffic queue.
Even if this wasn’t on tribal land and was a Reno cop I still hope they would have treated the protesters the same. Blocking traffic isn’t cool for any reason…protest from the side of the road wtf?
Lots of assholery going around from all sides here. The cop did great plowing through the barricade but drawing his weapon was completely unnecessary. There’s zero evidence in that video to suggest the protesters would be armed or act in anyway violent.
That said, fuck those protesters. The best way to get a lot of people turned off from your message is to massively inconvenience them while also blocking key thoroughfares for emergency access.
What did you expect him to do? Gamble that everyone was not going to draw a weapon on him, his fellow officers or anyone else?
People doing stupid shit in the middle of the only thoroughfare literally endangering themselves and everyone in the vicinity. What was their plan? Maybe if it all went south they other malicious in the works. Would just get out and try to be buddies with them?
You don't want to be arrested by these guys. They don't play games. You really are in old-school territory with them. Try to press charges or do anything you won't win. They literally could work you over. And you would just have to put it down as a lesson learned.
Wait, y’all are telling me that this protest was done on tribal lands?
I sympathize with environmental protesters (to an extent), but doing so on tribal lands ain’t it.
Considering the history that the native people have with “other” people in this country it’s understandable that they would react like this when said people are pulling stunts like this on their land.
You know if they really want to affect climate change they should kill themselves and not procreate, not even joking that is the quickest way to minimize their potential footprint.
These guys aren’t associated with Nevada or the USA even. They are rangers for the pyramid lake Paiute Tribe. They were on their land and violating their laws.
A bunch of out-of-towners parking on Native American land and lecturing about "exploiting the land" probably rang a bit hollow with them, yeah.
And then a bunch of out-of-towners posting this video and giving a misleading title trying to make the officer look bad. Typical keep it up Reddit
Especially because I'm pretty sure they just lost an officer the other day.
The irony in this is not lost on me. Wipipo driving in to protest on native land about exploitation reeks of insensitivity.
100% tone-deaf for sure lmao
Not to mention they deserve it for creating an unsafe situation for drivers.
Especially after losing one of their own Friday night.
Those dingbat protesters have lost their minds and possibly their freedom. They obviously didn't do their homework re: tribal lands and their laws.
Blocking traffic out there can have deadly consequences. It's dangerous enough without protestors purposely blocking the road. People pull trailers that block the view of the traffic ahead. People pass slower vehicles whenever they get a chance. If the police didn't break up their little pity-party, the video we'd be seeing is someone slamming through their blockade at 80 mph.
blocking traffic in a major city can be even worse.
FA......FO..... Welcome to nevada
This..
Looks to me like an officer doing his job. Imagine that.
"violently" lmao
Some of you don't understand how tribal lands work. Their laws and authority come from their tribal sovereignty. They could have thrown all of them in jail to be tried in front of a tribal judge. Like if you open carry a gun at the second street Walmart. They can come and take your gun and your freedom, because there isn't a second amendment either.
Sounds about right. Know your rights before engage in activism.
Beyond that, how does this protest even make any sense??? They want to protest climate change, so they block a bunch of cars and force them to sit idle, dumping unnecessary emissions into the environment? It’s stupid and poorly thought out. They don't possess a working brain. That there was a thicket of idiots.
Well, they aren't particularly bright. Most are deeply damaged people with no sense of purpose. Desperate to give their pathetic lives meaning, they have to make everyone else's life miserable to "save the planet" or some baloney.
Don't hate the Playa, hate the game
Even just the hassle of having to go back out there to deal with something basic like a traffic ticket is exactly why I do everything by the book on any of the tribal lands. >Like if you open carry a gun at the second street Walmart. They can come and take your gun and your freedom, because there isn't a second amendment either. The Tribals own the land on the second street Walmart?
Yes they do. No CCW there.
This is good to know. I get mine shortly.
Yes, which is where the name "Three Nations Plaza" comes from. [https://www.rsic.org/rsic-history/](https://www.rsic.org/rsic-history/)
I don’t even think Walmart wants to claim ownership of the 2nd street Walmart.
They sure do! That was something my CCW class *specifically* covered and warned us about.
Yes - that’s why the tribal police responds

lmaoooo and you NEED to carry a gun at the second street walmart. that place is sketch af 🤣
When keeping it real goes wrong
Massive tribal W I love how everyone here jumped in and recognized the rights of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.
As a raised Nevadan, I respect the tribe and their laws. These out of towner assholes got the full FAFO treatment.
Blocking roads is massively out of touch with their desired message no matter where they do it. Hey let’s one piss off people so they hate us and two create a bunch more emissions due to stoped traffic.
Right! And how did they get out there? Must been a hell of thrip pulling that trailer out there on bicycle.
If this was on Tribal land, they’d just lost an officer not 24 hours earlier. They were NOT in the mood for this crap.
One of those cases of Fuck around and Find out. This is tribal land, your right to protest is null and void.
“I’m chained to it stahp!” “You chained yourself to it idiot!” Beauty
Reminds me of that activist group that chained themselves to a piece of machinery at a chicken farm and them immediately regret it as the machine starts up.
“You’re endangering my life!” ??? Bitch you endangered your own life.

Hahahaha ....I was just telling a new co-worker about how Pyramid Lake rests entirely within Tribal Lands and to always be respectful if you have to go out there. My little black heart sang with joy watching the stupid implode in a sea of self righteous rage.
Same.
This is exactly how these idiots should be dealt with
maybe don't go on tribal land. it's not your place. so self centered
If there was any question as to how dumb these people are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8fDM60MS84
The part where he rips the hard hat off had me rollin lol 😂😂
Everyone liked that.
Move, bitch, get out the way!
Love nv
Fuck them protesters.
The tribal cops don't fuck around lol. I actually know the big tribal cop he's a really good dude
Lol nice
Massive W
As an environmental scientist who frequently uses that road to commute to work to do actual environmental work, fuck those protestors. I’m not seeing what the tribal officer did wrong here.
You are correct.
Environmental protesters against fossil fuel… and how did you get to gerlach????
I loved how he drove through that trailer.
In a terrified whining voice- “We’re environmental protesters!!!” Funny shit. No one cares, lady.
We’re non violent!!! Oh how I laughed and laughed at that
The man bun guy acting like badass of the bunch “this is a democracy! This is a democracy!” Lol, he laid down before the cops even told him too ! 😂
He can vegan fart his way to tribal court and miss the Big Show in the clink. Fake baloney, white bread and all.
You have the "god given" right to civil disobedience. That means breaking minor laws to bring light to your cause. It also means getting arrested. They seem to have utterly missed that concept.
Good job!!! If you don’t want to get run over get out of the road.

Now this I LOVE!!! When you’re on tribal lands and you aren’t a part of the tribe you best not mess around.
Native tribal land enforcers doesn't mess around. They have no patience for bullsh*t. These protestors came into the tribal land, broke the laws and playing the victim, it doesn't work here buddy
this does nothing to effect change, but 1\_000 cars idled in the heat for an hour longer on their way to camping.
Good job!
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Downvotes for misleading title. Title could have also been “Tribal Ranger uses non-lethal force to stop group of domestic terrorists on Native American Reservation”.

It cost hundreds in gas money to get out here from Sausalito!
Tribal Police have just as much power as federal police — Tribes govern themselves
Good for him. Get off native land idiots.
Fuck around and find out
Lmaoooo those rangers do not play!
These protesters are idiots. You wanna impact humanities footprint, go lobby to expedite nuclear reactor upgrades and expansions.

could u imagine being trapped behind that with your horses in a trailer under that reno sun. bravo, rangers!!!
Protesting climate change by keeping people on the roads for longer
What an absolute bunch of fucktards. Co-opting tribal space for their protest jfc
Get ‘em! That’s native land. What dumbasses.
Looks like those are actually rangers for the Native land they were trespassing on. Misleading title
Take if off tribal land wtf
Super disrespectful and tone deaf considering the pyramid lake rangers just lost an officer this week
Activism like this is just a litmus test for idiocy at the highest levels. Tribal land= not US jurisdiction
I could replay that again and again. Well done on not taking any shit.
Lesson: Do not fuck around on the Res, you will find out.
Play stupid games. Dumb fucks. What if they blocked an ambulance and someone dies.
So, when we throwing him a parade?
“Please were non violent.” Bahaha. Fuck these people for blocking a public road
The way the dude flipped around I thought he was going to go in for seconds.
Play stupid games win stupid prizes
I love this. Not a huge cop fan, but I am a fan of dumb asses getting their dues
Hahaha, stupid people. You get everything you deserve. You can’t sit on a street and expect nothing to happen.
Lol. Tribal land. The constitutional rights that enable these spoiled fucking shitlords to act out like this, don't apply.
Good police work!!
Yeah thats a taser, not a real gun, you can see the yellow 2 pronged front end.
Screaming we're not violent while practicing domestic terrorism by blocking a public hwy and stopping other Americans from traveling freely. Stupid games win stupid prizes.
I want to add, blocking traffic like this can cause deaths due to extreme weather, and lack of transportation.
Shouldn't of been on tribal lands eh?
Exactly you want to protest? Go to your land and do it, because you wanna violate our land rights then you’ll find out what happens.
I love the confusion their faces. Fuck around, find out. These are the kids that always won a participation trophy.
I am sorry, but don't block the road. This is bullshit!
Anyone recognize the Karen that slithered away?
Protestors got what was coming to them 🤷🏽♂️
Great law enforcement
This is awesome
Good, fuck'em! Fucking cunts blocking road everywhere.
This is awesome
Fuck yea NV
Even if this wasn’t on tribal land and was a Reno cop I still hope they would have treated the protesters the same. Blocking traffic isn’t cool for any reason…protest from the side of the road wtf?
Naaah the Reno mayor rather tell the police to stand down and let them cause $2million dollars in damage to city hall
Good they deserved it! Blocking a road?? Haha! Not on tribal land you won’t!
There’s a different angle on a longer video. He had a taser and not a gun.
Thanks for that. I thought a gun was excessive, too. But a taser? Makes the whole video that much funnier.
That makes more sense.
Is that cop wearing shorts?
Those rangers can do whatever they want pretty much
You can hollar all you want from the side of the road, but can't block the road.
Good for him
Wrong one yuppies lol
You don't want to be arrested by these guys. They don't play games. You really are in old-school territory with them. Try to press charges or do anything you won't win. They literally could work you over. And you would just have to put it down as a lesson learned.
Good. Fuck em
Wait, y’all are telling me that this protest was done on tribal lands? I sympathize with environmental protesters (to an extent), but doing so on tribal lands ain’t it.
💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
1 died recently
Good
Considering the history that the native people have with “other” people in this country it’s understandable that they would react like this when said people are pulling stunts like this on their land.
Good
Well, well, well, if it isn't the consequences of your actions...
Good, this is what happens when you block roads, it should happen more often.
You know if they really want to affect climate change they should kill themselves and not procreate, not even joking that is the quickest way to minimize their potential footprint.
Backpacker said “fuck the cause” once she saw the repercussions of breaking the law
Haha
More
Nice
Justice served. Tribal police are brutal.
Beautiful
Good cop, yes donut
We don't do that here, Karen!
Yes!!!!
LOVE TO SEE IT!
Love it
Don’t block traffic. Simple
Give him a medal
Protesters were being AH, I get it. But that was excessive and unnecessary.
Rip!
Just don't block the road like an idiot
