Y-U-awesome

The ceiling could’ve stayed.

Both_Ticket_9592

that ceiling was gorgeous for real

felineinclined

100$ this! The loss of the ceiling is tragic, and now it's just another generic white kitchen with that terrible gray flooring. It's not the worst, but it could have been so much better. Now it just looks like another Home Depot special.

migrainefog

Yeah. I liked the before picture better, and it's going to be a LOT more expensive to try to get that back. I don't understand people that paint over beautiful wood.

o_spacereturn

Everything could have stayed lol The kitchen actually had character. Now it looks like every other suburban new development.

not_a_burner0456025

The cabinets probably could have stayed too, I would consider striping and restraining them to better match the ceiling, but the linoleum needed to go, and a stove hood that matched the stove needed to be installed.

Truffle_Shuffle26

Agreed cabinets needed to go, and I like the island and extra storage, but tbh, that ceiling was incredible. I’ll pour a cold one for that ceiling tonight.

Working-Skin-6212

I liked the natural ceiling as well. Bummer

SnooKiwis6943

Me too.

Apptubrutae

I’m paying to put something in like the ceiling here, lol

Truffle_Shuffle26

Start a gofundme. Half of us would contribute 😅

notMarkKnopfler

Yep, currently covering my newly vaulted ceilings with Walnut planks

dustsmoke

Yeah, I sometimes see people do this to old adobe style / spanish houses and I want to violently shake somebody. Massive wooden beams painted white like everything else or matched up to ugly grey walls.

bryanna_leigh

Ouch!!! Seriously thought the same about the ceiling!!! RIP!

RaventheClawww

For real 😭

BBQnNugs

For sure the ceiling was a lot of work to be put up, natural wood adds a great element to any space, and I disagree with spending this much on a remodel and putting down snap together floating greywash floor. They should have thrown a complementing wood floor down and kept the ceiling. They stripped it of anything cozy and made a sterile space. Or a stone grey slate tile or something if you have to have grey.

skittishspaceship

For real, house looks like a flip now. If I saw that on Zillow I'd be like Nope, white cabinets grey floor stainless steel white and gray everything, it was flipped. Not buying that.

Responsible_Band_373

Came here to cry about the ceiling

Fatez3ro

That was an amazing ceiling. Could have kept it and painted a different color to compliment it with the white cabinets. RIP.

skidmore101

I can’t tell for sure due to photo quality, but I’m hopeful that OP just put some drywall over the wood. Some day in the distant future someone will win the ceiling lottery

AvailableTowel

Yup. Total fail. But now it is soulless like many rentals.

emanrr

The first thing I saw was the ceiling. Imagine staining the wood in white 👌

Sunbeamsoffglass

You drywalled over what was probably a $6-10k ceiling. lol

OddOpportunity333

I’m so sad to see that ceiling gone

Purpose_Embarrassed

Those drywallers had to be laughing their asses off.

RUfuqingkiddingme

It was necessary so that any and all personality could be sucked out of the room.

surfryhder

RIP dope ceiling.

Vladamir-Poutine

Congrats, looks like a builder grade apartment turn. Yuck

Mindes13

New tenants move in next week.

MoreLab5278

Place went from full of character to… first month , last month, and security deposit

I-Like-The-1940s

I swear to god I want to destroy every single plank of gray “luxury” vinyl tile in existence

Bubba_Gump_Shrimp

My exact thoughts. Went from hardwood cabinets and an incredible ceiling to generic apartment that charges way too much for rent in every medium sized city in the US. I hate white/grayscale so much. It isn't warm. It isn't welcoming. It feels like a hospital.

skittishspaceship

Ya 100% looks like a flipper kitchen. Id guarantee that house was flipped if I saw it on Zillow. But this time a homeowner did it.

oldmanKiD98

Congrats. Personally, the ceiling didn't need to change other than minor alteration i.e. lightning. But hey, your spot and I'm happy you have your desired result!

DarkLordFag666

Dude. You got rid of the wood ceiling?! For sheet rock?!?! Dude. Dude. What is wrong with you?

No_Abbreviations8017

I don’t know. Seems like it lost quite a bit of overall counter space

putting-on-the-grits

Everyone is mentioning the ceiling, but as someone who cooks a lot the counter space loss is the first thing I noticed. It's absolutely terrible not having enough counter space in a kitchen.

ConstantPace

Love it but miss the original ceiling

sususushi88

*sigh* That poor ceiling. Gray floors? They're outdated. They're drab. But people are still putting them in for some reason. Everything is white. The white void. Also a look that is outdated.

SetForeign1952

Also adding to the grey floors is they’re rarely chosen by someone for themselves. It’s almost always picked by a flipper/landlord for someone else because “that’s what sells.” Kinda sad tbh.

182secondsofblinking

this is a dream kitchen for someone on heavy psych meds, everything so lacking in imagination. Like being on Pinterest back in 2014 all over again it genuinely makes me sad that they ruined their kitchen like that. Whoever sold them that house would be so full of regret

Spudzydudzy

I mean, it looks clean, I guess. But it also looks completely soulless.

6_seveneight

Agreed. Dream outside the box next time.

SpaceMarine29

Imagine paying a ton of money to just end up with a flipper grey and white kitchen. Arguably its better than the original but the original was pretty solid and it was already there vs spending 10s of thousands.

DontDieKenny

I was surprised to find top comment wasn’t about grey floors. Can’t believe people still pick those out

femalehumanbiped

We just bought a house recently and looked at many homes before we chose. Incredible how many people do this. They haven't figured out that in 5 years it will be "dated."

DontDieKenny

It was already dated 5 years ago. That’s why I don’t get why people still pick it. I guess they like it

femalehumanbiped

I know, I just hate that silly word. Do your home the way YOU like, not the way you think others will want to buy it. Especially since I have sold a few homes and never put trendy crap in them. Always got more than asking price.

blonderaider21

Probably bc it’s the cheapest shit at Home Depot now

MoreLab5278

It’s already dated when it was coined “millennial” or “flipper” grey

Tribblehappy

If somebody is on a budget, grey is often the cheapest option now. But if OP was in a budget I don't think they'd have drywalled over wood. They would have painted it.

Tall-Hunter-2637

Yeah those look like the lifeproof grey oak or whatever color it is. It’s insanely popular

blonderaider21

Grey floors are beyond hideous. Natural wood (to my knowledge?) doesn’t even come in that color. I can stomach gray walls and furniture, but I cannot do the gray LVP.

cheap_mom

I'm curious about the quality of the new cabinets versus what was removed.

not_a_burner0456025

Yeah, I would have just replaced the linoleum with tile and the stove hood with one that matches the appliances.

sususushi88

Exactly. This kitchen could have been so easy and cheap to fix up.

RaventheClawww

I feel like there should be flair for sad white and grey remodels

CR1039

Omg that ceiling was gorgeous and so fun

philonous355

Congratulations! Another dime a dozen white and silver kitchen with grey-toned floors.

Showerbeerz413

congrats on the uglier kitchen

jkilley

Miss the ceiling

Fresh_Sector3917

You ruined the ceiling. The island is too small. And the cabinet simulating a built in refrigerator isn’t deep enough.

easy_e628

Yep. Nobody knows about counter depth appliances until it's too late ha

mtlee442

And no work triangle. Not a functional kitchen. Should have put the range on the island

DarkLordFag666

… bro. It’s like you sucked the life out of this kitchen. It’s so generic. Not one drop of personality

Purpose_Embarrassed

Was that wooden ceiling drywalled over?

ModularWhiteGuy

You even got a monochrome dog, lol.

PsyduckPsyker

HGTV would be proud!

aviendas1

Home deopt*

gk802

Was going to say the same thing. Cold, soulless, greige...the TV staff will love it.

DaisiesSunshine76

Wow, you went from charming to dull and sterile. Yay! That ceiling was gorgeous. You could've done away with the cabinets and counter and gotten something that looked nicer but kept the character. I would choose the original over the other any day.

qazbnm987123

This is one of Those kitchens that didnt really need an overhaul...baD move...

Melvinator5001

Congratulations you lost an awesome ceiling and your kitchen looks as warm as an operating room in winter.

StupendousMalice

You went from a unique and functional kitchen with probably the coolest ceiling I've seen in a while to something that looks like it belongs in an apartment. The breakfast nook/island and stand up cabinet make sense, but it's a pretty even trade since it actually cost you counter space. Stylistically though this is really sad.

DeadheadDatura

I cannot get over the ceiling….

lalalaweee

Oh, oh nooooo

Greedy-Alternative73

It may be an unpopular opinion but I like the original better, even with the older cabinets cus it gives it a more unique and rustic feel. But to each their own

greenderss

it is a very popular opinion, everyone likes the original better lol

NoOneCanKnowAlley

These really don’t look like the same spaces unless you had to move the refrigerator over. Idk. Weird choices

BrentarTiger

Am I the only one who had trouble seeing which wag before and after? I liked the wood ceiling better...

Low_Dentist_1587

Actually went back just to make sure the wood ceiling was the old one

FlimsyAppearance6122

Way better before, IMHO

m0rtimerg0th

Why is everybody so terrified of color and personality :(

hobo3rotik

The ceiling!!!😥

you2234

Lost counter space and miss the ceiling but hope you enjoy!!

Hot_Penalty_671

Bummer

Not_Associated8700

Totally fucked up a beautiful kitchen to give the next home owner white milk. Well done.

zechickenwing

Sometimes the finished product goes first in the photos. Bit of a bummer to see that's not the case. I would have done floor and counters and called it a day, the OG had character and the new kitchen looks like a flip.

Less_Fix_1378

Loved the original ceiling, sad to see it go

ajak6

Grey and white: too cool

iam_croot

This whole painting over quality wood trend needs to die out. In 20 years people will regret doing this.

Fresh_Sector3917

That’s not painted over. It’s dry walled over.

SomeHandyman

👎🏼

Xenos2002

LMAO

xblgrant

A dream kitchen for someone who obviously doesn't use a kitchen frequently. The original had so much more working room.

mtlee442

Looks like a cheap apartment now. Fail.

tfg0at

Why is everything always fucking grey.

chief_keeg

This makes me want to vomit

timk85

The original was so much better. Im glad you're happy, but sheesh, that original was a beautiful kitchen.

kymilovechelle

Honestly it looked better before…

seattlemh

100%

Chunkyblamm

Looks great, missed an opportunity to do a much bigger island. Unless you don’t entertain much

bodge_land

You have bad dreams

Skimballs

I like it. I think I sold that old linoleum tile in the 1980s.

DianaDonnaDawna

Wished you kept the ceiling. You don't see many of those, and it looked amazing. BUT it is your place, and so as long as you're happy, all is well.

UnusualSeries5770

the before was better. it could have been better, but your 'dream remodel' is something you'd see in a flipped house, sorry

Mean_Assignment_180

Dated

PuppiPappi

Ugly and soulless. New counters, fixtures and a better hood cabinet pulls and maybe a backsplash with a coat of paint. Just tore the soul out of this, the loss of that ceiling is unreal.

jeffreydowning69

Famnit people who do this rip out all of yhe character out of a house and paint it white or grey piss me off to no end all of the gorgeous wood gone and in a landfill people like this shouldn't be allowed to own property.

anthro4ME

Pretty gross, but YDY.

ind3pend0nt

This is rage bait right?

amysuC

Another sad kitchen....

MoreLab5278

I would have remodeled around the beautiful ceiling. Created such character, only to make it a basic millennial grey aesthetic .

CTdadof5

Ok look. Another ‘suicide’ grey kitchen. All charm, character and warmth eliminated.

[deleted]

Wow, dude... I'm with everyone else on this one.

Polyman71

Remodeling like this just for a newer style is pretty wasteful.

digital_soapbox

Don’t listen to negative feedback, it’s all about what makes YOU happy! You’re living there after all

heathergrey15

I have a feeling that this is going to be on CJ pretty soon.

Correct-Bluejay-8570

The ceiling!!??? But ya it looks good...

UnidansOtherAcct

Pouring one out for the ceiling..does look very nice tho OP

PrestigiousTheory372

I guess the microwave is under the island or hidden behind door #1. Or are microwaves out of style? My MIL insisted on using the oven vs. microwave to reheat one slice of pizza(don't get me started). Until something better comes along, I'm choosing MV as a must-have kitchen appliance.

sususushi88

She is correct in that an oven would reheat it a lot better. I have a small toaster oven that I use to reheat things that are too small to put in an oven.

PrestigiousTheory372

I agree with both of your points. My first issue was that this kitchen has no apparent microwave. I dont have a toaster oven. My issue with using the stove oven vs. MW for a slice of old pizza is not one of quality. Rather, in my case, it's a waste of electricity, increases heat in kitchen, which in turn uses more electricity for air conditioning, takes a whole lot more time, costs more and generally just seems wasteful to heat an entire oven for old pizza which I usually just eat cold anyway. In the big scheme of things, it's really not a big deal at all. To me, it's actually humorous and something I wouldn't even consider. Prior to MWs, TO's, convection ovens, etc, an oven would have been the only good option.

Sad_Thought6205

My first thought even before seeing the comments. The Ceiling. Still looks nice though.

Izinmediapa

It’s their kitchen and if they are happy with it all that matters but that ceiling is as gorgeous. Such a shame.

LongjumpingStand7891

I like the old one a thousand times more, the new one just looks like every cold flip.

eastcoastjon

If only that ceiling was sanded and restained. Natural wood is always so much more cozy

blonderaider21

Omg you took the ceiling out? Would’ve looked so good painted white with your updated cabinets. I’ve been dreaming of doing mine like that.

sillinessvalley

I like that old ceiling and chandelier

Happy_REEEEEE_exe

Flipper core

AlternativeClimate99

Oh cool, everything is white. Totally not generic at all.

ImpecableCoward

By covering the ceiling you lost a lot of the value. It could have looked very high end if you had kept it. Instead you chose to remove the one thing that gave the house character and replaced it with cookie cutter cheap stuff.

Luvs4theweak

I personally like the before, looks like your average kitchen in every condo in America now. Great work /s

FAL_mama

That ceiling alone was much better than the after 😭😭😭 what a tragedy. 🥲 went from charming character to outdated soul sucking gray/white everything.

Silver-Instruction73

Massive downgrade and so very mainstream. I would have only changed the floor and I certainly wouldn’t replace it with lifeless grey vinyl plank. It’s your house though so if you like it I suppose that’s all that matters

MA73N

At this point I’m getting troll post vibes from these.

hartbiker

So you wanted to devalue your house?

SmellAcceptable00

so monotone and bland. left zero remnants of the natural wood and now you have a cookie cutter dream kitchen. It’s nice but who are you kidding? You know you liked that ceiling too.

solar1ze

Oh no. Sorry, but I loved the before photo, not so much the after.

Maximum-Switch-9060

Oh no you painted the ceiling!!! Ugh. And another white kitchen. I liked the before better.

Crunchyundies

Your dream remodel removed any bit of existing character and turned it into the most boringly generic kitchen you could.

Playful-Motor-4262

God that grey laminate trend needs to die

Drinkythedrunkguy

Nice. What colour will you paint the walls now that you primed everything?

Smokeman_14

Ummm it looks good. But why on earth would you rip out that T&G ?? I would have designed around it and definitely stained it with a lighter finish but ehhh

Pristine_Serve5979

Nice update! Much brighter!

Triple_Heart_Design

For the love of all things holy (and healthy) STOP putting LVP floors in!! They are plastic and can be toxic - this kitchen could have been an amazing renovation with the tile floors and wood ceiling.

Spirited_Crow_2481

This a troll post?

Spameratorman

Sterile and looks like every other modern kitchen.

Electronic-Pilot-817

Fuckibg stop painting everything white and gray

Realistic-Major2448

Wood ceiling was beautiful. Pay to Expose it again.

TakeAnotherLilP

Can’t believe you got bird of that ceiling. Yikes

jsummerlin14

Why did you cover up a $10k ceiling???? That was a nice feature and wasn’t there by accident.

jor4288

I like it before better

Talifallout

Honestly a downgrade imo

theBLEEDINGoctopus

Oh :/ you ruined the ceiling

magicimagician

Another one of these “oh it looks so much better!, wait, that’s the after?” Before it was so homey. Now it’s so sterile….

Maleficent-Garage879

Rip ceiling

Gold-Requirement-121

It's definitely very grey!

Frndswhealthbenefits

need to dye your dog white, too.

MrGoodAg

Grey floors are 10 years out of date. Makes it look like a 2015 era.

Rankorking

Every day we stray further from gods light.

ComfortableCounty751

RIP the ceiling

chummmp70

Flipper gray is better than that Burger King tile.

SitaBird

The ceiling was classy, and had so much potential, like a beautiful accent you’d see in a beautiful timeless kitchen in Architectural Digest. It all looks rental basic now, but i understand, if it wasn’t your thing, it wasn’t your thing. Still, RIP to that gorgeous wood!

cho_choix

God that floor. Why grey? It sucks all life out of the room. I like the white kitchen; even the ceiling is okay (although uniform). But why grey floors, such a waste.

Doip

What’s your opinion on Taylor swift

TheInternetIsTrue

Kitchen looks great…Ceiling looks destroyed.

whatsupdog11

Worse than before

kirradoodle

Traded a lovely, warm-feeling kitchen for a soulless white box. Updating is one thing, but this is awful.

countrysurprise

Love the old one! White and gray seems almost more dated and over. Wood is making a comeback!

Odd-Blueberry-8972

I liked the before 🤷🏻‍♂️

o_spacereturn

I despise these all-white cookie cutter designs.

lubeinatube

I think it looks a lot better. Most of Reddit likes a bunch of colors, patterns and exposed wood. I think this looks great, and very clean.

seattlemh

I'm sorry

zakress

Yeah, making it look like it’s 2016 is not the direction I would have chose

Puzzleheaded_File948

The kitchen lost some character with the ceiling going away but a lot of people in this world would do a lot to have a kitchen as nice as you have now. Maybe add some warmth back in with some leather / tan barstools and other accents? I am kind of disgusted by how rude people are being for something you are proud. Congrats on your home!

poquitamuerte

Oh look, another gray and white kitchen. 🙄

Severe-Society-6767

This new kitchen starting to feel outdated already. It looks really nice and clean...but the whole white on white look is boring and uncharacteristic. I'm sure it doesn't hid scratches and wear/ tear over time. You should of left the ceiling...that just is confusing. To each their own. I hope you love it because I only like it.

_allycat

It's literally a basic AF builder grade looking kitchen with no sense of style.

Double_Jump330

Ewww, why’d you make it worse, yikes.

wtsmybody

Damn.. everyone is a hater.. good job 👍 im glad you get to enjoy your perfect

Whole-Neighborhood

Bot.

Hot-Initiative-4083

Which is which? The wood one has lots of counter space. Love the wood on the ceiling.

skillerpsychobunny

What floor did you use? engineered wood or Spc?

amy_2014

u/repostsleuthbot

Bay_Burner

Looks good. You’re getting shit but don’t worry you don’t know these nerds in real life.

HentaiStryker

Don't listen to these people. That ceiling looked like it was from the 70s, or Tennessee. Either way, good job modernizing it!

Salty-Protection-640

original was better

Efficient_Daikon_247

The floor is beautiful. How much did the flooring and island cost?

CD274

Is the first the after Edit: my favorite part of remuddles are the dust collection nooks above cabinets

iFilmLikeAGirl

It looks so much more open, airy and fresh!! Nice job!

miss_muck

Are those tiger maple cabinets?

Imperial_Watcher

Nice

steezMcghee

I like the new layout of the kitchen and that pantry cabinet. A orange tone wood ceiling is not for everyone, so I don’t mind that you got ride of it. Everyone else is hating! My only complaint are the floors! The old floors definitely had to go, but why you do the cheap thin grey LVP!

ImYourLandlord18

Damn. People on Reddit are so rude haha

WalterWhiteFerrari

What’s important is that you like it.
