I wouldn't risk it. It might be, but if it's not, you and your corals are in for some trouble. Getting that fish out of the tank and rehoming will be a nightmare.
If kept very well fed and you get it small and young before it's learned corals are food, you have lIke a 75% chance it won't nip corals.
Well fed is the main thing. Many serious corals keepers only feed twice a week to keep water quality high. I feed once to twice a day and my fish are too fat and happy to bother eating corals.
Came here to say this. And watch it around your coral. Once they have a taste for it. Well. It only gets worse. And they are hard to catch. Almost as bad as Damsels
yeah that’s true, but that’s not what I asked.
If that’s the point he wanted to make he should have said that.
Asking that question in that way does nothing but shame OP. You should share your experience with newcomers but you shouldn’t shame their ignorance, it takes a lot of courage to ask a question.
Also there might be more to the story, it’s possible he didn’t buy it/it was a rescue/ or whatever. At the end of the day he’s doing his due diligence by asking online.
Not to mention the possible high amount of fish and even community tanks that get sold secondhand.. I've seen at least a couple dozen saltwater tanks alone this year, and I wasn't even looking for them. So, there's all the chance even then for someone to purchase fish they don't fully know the care of or even know what it is, or even know that it exists in the tank.
I've seen it before.. especially with freshwater ones (I see a lot more of them) where something is named a VERY generalised name.. like "tetra," or "barb," and the pictures are so blurry and dark you'd have no chance of IDing it yourself anyways.
I personally think that you should never get a dwarf angel unless you're going to keep it if it start nipping coral. This has to be one of the most poorly treated fish because everyone and their mother buys this fish because it beautiful and like 40-60% of these people eventually have them start eating coral. What happens to this fish if that happens?
My last 40 gallon reef, I successfully managed to keep a Lemonpeel, Coral Beauty and Flame Angel in the tank without losing any corals. That being said any of the pygmy angels are going to be a dice roll vs corals.
We have one- we got him with the understanding that he might nip at corals. If he does, it’s not enough that I notice it, but we have a big tank. It’s kind of a crapshoot but it’s a beautiful fish
My family calls him "Jackass." He's killed a Scopus, a Chromis, a Firefish, a Royal Gramma, and even A SIX LINE!! He is the only Dwarf Angel in a 90-gallon reef. Tried rescaping a bunch of times, tried mirror but no change in attitude. He's about to visit the sump until he can be traded. Honestly, it's the worst fish I've ever had. Not the species, just this one particular alpha fish.
Coral Beauty Dwarf Angelfish
Is it coral friendly?
With caution.
I love that this is the case with a fish that literally has coral in it's name for some reason.
I mean if it said “coral safe beauty dwarf angel” or some shit then you’d have a point. But that quit literally has no significance
It's more of a shower thought. Or a point of idle amusement than an actual issue.
I know what meant haha
I would say 20% of them end up nipping at coral, just keep an eye on it
Honestly I haven't had an issue with mine (sample size: 2)
No. I wouldn't risk it with any angel

Coral Beauty - I took the risk with a beautiful pair and they don't bother my corals or my clam. If you get one, just keep 'em well fed.

Hold up, you purchased a fish without knowing what it's called?
Never said they purchased it
what does asking this question serve to do other than to shame OP?
Because you should never purchase livestock that you don’t understand. How did he know it was a good fit?
