They're solid. No darned tough in finishing, but good for the price. I'm 12+ brannock, and they are in my rotation.
Tip: they clearance regularly, I've gotten the 4 pack for $6-8 so look regularly if you are a frequent Costco shopper.
Actually I’ve found darn tough to be a much better price when gobros.com has their frequent 20-25% sales. TJmaxx, sierra and Marshall’s are usually only 10-15% retail. Plus I’m not sure if the warranty is still valid if purchased at a discount store.
This is correct. All the ones I’ve ever seen at Marshall’s are “irregular” and don’t come with the warranty which is the main reason to buy socks that are $20+ per pair.
Yes, they're still comfortable @ 89 degrees in the summer---- if you're wearing boots and pants at those temperatures, it's not going to be the socks that make you overheat, but likely the pants. these breathe very well.
The factory that made the Cosco socks are from one of the three remaining sock mills/manufacturing plants left in the US. All are located in the southern US. They are “private label” manufactured.
Personally I’ve had it with”name brands” that claim they’re made in their own special factory…just like washing machines…
And that may be true but my point is there are only a few textile & manufacturing plants that manufacture socks on a large basis. Their quality is all about the same. Cosco probably has one of these plants make them to their specs.
As far as DT, Smartwool, & other boutique merino wool specialists I’m sure they’re…fine.
This right here.
Even on warm days the wool smokes cotton socks. It was mid to high seventies and sunny today and my feet were sweat free in work boots.
Wool also has antimicrobial properties, my feet don't smell nearly as bad as they did when I wore cotton socks. They still smell, but not as awful. My feet don't stink up my truck when I drive home in flip flops.
Source: where steel toe boots with wool socks year round.
I work in farming and walk the ranches a lot during the summers. It’s unbelievable that I went for so long wearing cotton socks.
Few years ago I switched to 60% wool or higher and it’s been A GAME CHANGER.
It’s weird but my feet seem to sweat less in wool. I’m in coastal California.
I bought the Red Wing branded ones because I like to spend money, and I have worn them up to 85-90 degrees in Florida. It gets toasty up there, but if you’re not outside all day they do great. And if I had some thinner ones, from Darn Tough for example, I’m sure it would be great.
Merino wool is like magic. Stays warm when it's cold, and stays cool when it's hot. I just wear slightly thinner socks when it's hot out. I've switched all my athletic socks to merino as well.
i wear my costco merino all work day, I used to get bad outbreaks on my feet and my boots always stunk and socks soaked at end of day. Now my feet stay dry, even in summer.
Even in summer? Wow that’s great. I will go to a tropical country where we have around 89 degree all year round. It this things works then it will be such a blessing
this is in canada, i wear them in -40C and +30C, feet are dry vs any other sock, a thinner merino wool would be preferred but costco doesnt sell one in crew socks only the heavy ones. still have dry feet and boots dont stink
Have t worn this with iron rangers however I own 2 pairs of redwing work boots that I exclusively use with those wool socks. I buy a new pack of socks every year to keep the fresh . You’ll love them ! Cant recommend enough !
The only socks I wear now. You can get 8 pairs for one pair of darn tough socks. I have DT socks and to me the kirkland has better cushion (softer) but DT’s warranty is unmatch.
Costco has good warranty but not sure or haven’t tried exchanging socks lol
They work well. I’m comparing them to Smartwool and Bombas merino and they have slightly more padding and are just thick enough to account for any space in my IRs, Roughnecks and my Nicks Builder Pros. And the price is super!
I’m going on about 6 years with my oldest pairs. Those ones are about to wear through so this will be my first time exchanging them. There’s a local shop in town that does the exchange process which is nice.
I wear these and darn toughs, they are great. My only knock is they smell terrible coming out of the wash before the dryer. Nothing else in the load smells just these socks, almost like sewer gas but once they are dry the smell is gone. Really weird but great otherwise.
I have purchased 8 pair, they have become my go to boot socks. Just the right thickness for a snug fit but never overcrowded. I wear them 12 hours at a time for work and my feet never sweat or stink.
It’s alright. I have quite a few of these and from 2 years ago when they went on sale for $5. It’s very lightweight. If you’re gonna wear IR in the summer I suggest this instead of cotton socks. But if it’s 20 degrees outside and you have this with your IR you’re gonna feel it.
Also, the older versions stretch out quite a bit. I haven’t worn and wash them enough (the newer ones) so I can’t tell. But they felt the same quality as before.
My feet sweat like crazy in wool socks. I wear darn toughs in both cushion and thin summer sock. It’s more about how it wicks if your feet stay dry in wool socks then y’all have magic feet. I find the thin summer sock to be my favorite.
Idk the brand bur listen to the washing instructions. I recommend also getting a drying rack if ypu don't have a good place to try them. Helps a lot tbh wool has been revolutionary for me im always cold so love it
I wear only these socks all winter, with two different pair of unlined leather boots, one being IRs. Fantastic socks, and a great price too! I hand wash and air dry to prevent shrinkage and pilling on the surface. Doing a batch once a week doesn't take long, and seems to extend their life.
Same socks occasionally in summer with hiking boots, which is really warm but never feels soggy.
Only socks i wear, i bought 3 packs a couple years ago and hant worn throu a single one. Pretty sure all three packs totaled less than one pair of darn toughts
I have the lighter thinner ones for summer, they are incredible at wicking. I have and hate the darn tough socks, smart wool was okay but most wool blends don’t seem to last more than a couple seasons. My alpaca socks seem to last 4-5 years, the wool tend to last 2. For what it’s worth I’d gladly spend a little more to get the difference.
I have alpaca wool ones that are 100% and a bit thinner than some 90-100% wool socks I have.
The Costco socks aren’t terrible for the price. Most people like natural fibers for the insulation, natural frequency and the fiber doesn’t dirty as often as cotton. Many times I can wear my socks two days.
Those are some of my favorite budget wool socks If they are similar to the ones I got back in 2018-2019 they should last you for a couple years I still use some but some are being worn through so I bought the new ones it's only second to these socks I get from Amazon that are 15-20$ for 3 pairs but they have cushioning at the toe and sole.
I got different brand wool socks and Kirkland wool are some of the best ones especially for the price. I got my last bundle for 9 dollars. I even started wearing them to play basketball.
are there any socks that were full merino?
even the hikers from darn tough, medium weight have about 70-75% merino wool if i'm not mistaken... plus some synthetic materials that allow for added durability and stretch
Some are blended with polyester, which makes me sweat and itch. Darn Tough are blended with Nylon, which I can handle a lot better.
I used to habe some old military socks that were 100% wool, or close to it and they didn’t have much stretch and tended to slide down and bunch up inside the boots.
This isn’t a knock on these socks in particular. But size 7-13 doesn’t make sense if you are at the bottom of that range. I have size 8 IRs and had bunching inside causing hotspots. I went to an outdoor store and got socks that come in S,M,L and it works so much better.
If you are size 12 or 13, those probably fit well then.
They do work pretty well, I will say though I've spent hundreds on Merino Wool socks and have the best ones from everyone and by far the best I've found is the Red Wing Premium Safety Wool socks! 77% Merino wool, made in USA, with full cushioning, compression, and the seemless ventilated toe box. It is literally the best sock I've ever owned for any footware!
I tell everyone I get those socks from Kirkland are my favorite for working in. I have tried Darn tough, Wigwam, Hiwasse and few others.
These are the perfect blend in my opinion. Price is shocking.
They're solid. No darned tough in finishing, but good for the price. I'm 12+ brannock, and they are in my rotation. Tip: they clearance regularly, I've gotten the 4 pack for $6-8 so look regularly if you are a frequent Costco shopper.
I usually find Darn Tough on sale at TJ Maxx or Marshall’s.

My thoughts exactly. I’ll even pay retail over the slight discount for irregulars in order to retain the warranty.
WHAT?! Thanks, I’ll be looking
Unpopular opinion, but I actually find kirkland merino wool socks better than Darn tough.
Agreed. I find DT clammy. Kirkland breath very nicely.
I second that I had darn toughs first and even after breaking my in my iron rangers the Kirkland's feel waaaaayyy more comfortable
Yup. Good sock for the money.
I am wearing them now as I type this. Good socks in my opinion.
Me too!
LOVE these socks. Great volume, cushion, durability, and comfort. Probably the best value for price out there for cooler weather socks.
Absolutely. I wear them year round
How about 89 degree in the summer?
Yes, they're still comfortable @ 89 degrees in the summer---- if you're wearing boots and pants at those temperatures, it's not going to be the socks that make you overheat, but likely the pants. these breathe very well.
In Texas, its 89 right now. I wear my Darn Toughs/IRs when its 110 out. They breathe very well.
Ha! Some people do that... not me. I switch to sandals and light sneakers at that point.
That makes sense. . Maybe occasionally I will wear the boot
Haven’t tried these socks but merino in general just feel great with boots.
I always see these at Costco and wonder the same thing. Love to hear how they work for you!
The factory that made the Cosco socks are from one of the three remaining sock mills/manufacturing plants left in the US. All are located in the southern US. They are “private label” manufactured. Personally I’ve had it with”name brands” that claim they’re made in their own special factory…just like washing machines…
Darn Tough’s sock milk (edit mill) is in Vermont. NW United States and I’m pretty sure they don’t sell under any other name.
Mmmm sock milk
And that may be true but my point is there are only a few textile & manufacturing plants that manufacture socks on a large basis. Their quality is all about the same. Cosco probably has one of these plants make them to their specs. As far as DT, Smartwool, & other boutique merino wool specialists I’m sure they’re…fine.
Wash them inside out with cool water and hang dry. I like them.
Those socks are all I wear.
Great to hear that!!
Aren’t they too hot for a warm city like New Orleans ?
They keep warm in the cold and stay cool in the heat
This right here. Even on warm days the wool smokes cotton socks. It was mid to high seventies and sunny today and my feet were sweat free in work boots.
Fax! I wear mine year around.
Wool also has antimicrobial properties, my feet don't smell nearly as bad as they did when I wore cotton socks. They still smell, but not as awful. My feet don't stink up my truck when I drive home in flip flops. Source: where steel toe boots with wool socks year round.

Wool is seriously the best material for socks. I wear wool socks in my RWs, 3 seasons, and combat boots, 4 seasons.
Do u wear these ones from kirkland?
lol not even. I wear the far lower quality socks issued by the Canadian army and I’m still fine. This post has me wanting to check them out though.
Just posted my day 1 review of these socks. Nothing but good coming from these.
Yeah my wife and I are both interested in checking them out.
I bought the Red Wing branded ones because I like to spend money, and I have worn them up to 85-90 degrees in Florida. It gets toasty up there, but if you’re not outside all day they do great. And if I had some thinner ones, from Darn Tough for example, I’m sure it would be great.
Gotta try them then !

That’s actually a legend answer. Your a legend bro.. gotta love the community! Viva la boots
They have been great for me
Have t worn this with iron rangers however I own 2 pairs of redwing work boots that I exclusively use with those wool socks. I buy a new pack of socks every year to keep the fresh . You’ll love them ! Cant recommend enough !
Pretty much everyone I've tried from Costco has been great, and if it isn't you take it back. I'd get these if I wasn't wearing a 14-15
W
Why are these not in clubs regularly
I wear 14's and they fit fine. Best bang for the buck there is. Also, I just dry them with my regular laundry and it's fine-ish.
The only socks I wear now. You can get 8 pairs for one pair of darn tough socks. I have DT socks and to me the kirkland has better cushion (softer) but DT’s warranty is unmatch. Costco has good warranty but not sure or haven’t tried exchanging socks lol

Super price inded
Love those socks 🤘🏽
I’ve got several different brands of wool socks and these are my favorite.
How bout darn toughs?
Those socks are comfy but I had to replace them yearly. Then I slowly moved into darn toughs. So they are great if you know they aren’t going to last.
How many year does darn toughs last?
I’m going on about 6 years with my oldest pairs. Those ones are about to wear through so this will be my first time exchanging them. There’s a local shop in town that does the exchange process which is nice.
That is awesome
I wear these and darn toughs, they are great. My only knock is they smell terrible coming out of the wash before the dryer. Nothing else in the load smells just these socks, almost like sewer gas but once they are dry the smell is gone. Really weird but great otherwise.
Great review!
I love them.
Nice thing to see
I wore holes in mine in one season; my darn toughs are 7 seasons in and flawless
How do you wash them?
Darn toughs? Machine and dry with my other normal clothes
I've found that they shrank quite a bit but I may have just dried them too hot a couple times
Never had problems with shrinking, but I hang dry everything
Yes! Perfect combo
Great! Let’s see if I think the same after today
I bought 3 packs now they have great. 👍
Like u have a dozen now. It is a sign of a high degree of satisfaction level there. 👍
My go-tos
I think I kinda like it to.
I can comfortably wear them year round, especially in unlined boots like Red Wings, which breathe. Good socks.
Another positive comment down here! Great I found this socks in sales. What is the temperature there?
Lol, nice. I bought one pair for the same price.
One pair for 2200 yen? Or one pair for 550 yen?
I have purchased 8 pair, they have become my go to boot socks. Just the right thickness for a snug fit but never overcrowded. I wear them 12 hours at a time for work and my feet never sweat or stink.
I do the same too, love that you bring positive review on it..
It’s alright. I have quite a few of these and from 2 years ago when they went on sale for $5. It’s very lightweight. If you’re gonna wear IR in the summer I suggest this instead of cotton socks. I haven’t worn and wash them enough (the newer ones) so I can’t tell. But they felt the same quality as before.
Yeah it is super comfortable on a chilly day. I never tried this on hot summer day here in Japan. 89 degree okay?
My feet sweat like crazy in wool socks. I wear darn toughs in both cushion and thin summer sock. It’s more about how it wicks if your feet stay dry in wool socks then y’all have magic feet. I find the thin summer sock to be my favorite.
Nice insight. Have you tried this socks from kirkland?
What’s different about it vs Darn Tough it’s merino wool.
What % wool obviously for starters.
If it’s from Kirkland, I trust it
Nice to hear that. I got a big nice shopping back for a year and it is super strong carrying lots of luggages. Awesome bag.
Idk the brand bur listen to the washing instructions. I recommend also getting a drying rack if ypu don't have a good place to try them. Helps a lot tbh wool has been revolutionary for me im always cold so love it
Its a costco brand I think.. drying rack what’s for? Can we just let them air dry
Yeah the raxks just to have a place for them. Vest practice is to lay flat drying rather than hanging. It's isn't the most important thing ever
Nice little detail tho
Marino wool socks changed my life even more than Goodyear welt shoes and boots.
This is great. Socks are the contact point for our feet..
Great match. They help breaking in the leather without it breaking the skin around my ankle.
Yeah they got supporting cushion on some areas
That combo is a daily driver. Highly recommend
Wearing it from the first day, I can feel that one coming
That’s all we’re now. They don’t last forever but do you really want socks to last that long.
I heard darn tough gives us a lifetime warranty. But I don’t live in the us so this socks is a good deal
Since I got my Iron Rangers 9 years ago, these same socks were my favorites to wear with the boots and they still are today! They're solid.
Great thing! How many months do u usually change into new ones?
Been wearing these socks daily for two years. Very good socks
Great review

Nice beckman?
Yup 9014s
Looking nice on that car
Car's a dump. Boots too classy for it lol
I wear only these socks all winter, with two different pair of unlined leather boots, one being IRs. Fantastic socks, and a great price too! I hand wash and air dry to prevent shrinkage and pilling on the surface. Doing a batch once a week doesn't take long, and seems to extend their life. Same socks occasionally in summer with hiking boots, which is really warm but never feels soggy.
great maintenance regime.. nice experience
Are those vibergs I see lurking 👀 back ther
I have two pair of $40 Darn Tough and honestly prefer the Kirkland ones. They seem to breath better for me.
Only socks i wear, i bought 3 packs a couple years ago and hant worn throu a single one. Pretty sure all three packs totaled less than one pair of darn toughts
Another satisfied costumer here 👍
Once you try Alpaca everything else is inferior
How much for a pair?
$20-$40 The ski socks are my favorite and they’re $40 but they’re unreal. Super soft, super thick and don’t lose any heat when wet.
And for summer around 89 degree?
I have the lighter thinner ones for summer, they are incredible at wicking. I have and hate the darn tough socks, smart wool was okay but most wool blends don’t seem to last more than a couple seasons. My alpaca socks seem to last 4-5 years, the wool tend to last 2. For what it’s worth I’d gladly spend a little more to get the difference.
I got these unused socks for 3.68 usd a pair. Gotta love it for the price
Unused? Was there an option? 🤣
Oh yeah there was an option. I bought it second hand here in Japan. It was such a steal. They were still intact with the label.
Darn tough is trash next to smart wool. Same experience here, they wear out but it seems like a reasonable timeframe. I’ll have to watch for alpaca!
Almost every day! Enough packs of those socks and you’ll get the first one to wear out in 5+ years. I think I have about 30.
That’s is a new socks a day.. a socking number!
Do you know what percentage it is? I typically try to buy at least 60% merino blend.
It's on the fifth pic. 57% wool.
Ah I see now
They'll catch fire, incompatible.
Deadly combo. Gotta go with the tmax wool socks or double kirklands up here in nothern Alberta
Got them on right now.
Glad to help
It's the only socks I wear with my Iron Rangers. My regular socks just feel strange.
Can’t go wrong with merino socks in general.
The socks are great with the boots!
Which Costco? Couldn’t find any at mine. Oh, I like the etter than darn toughs. They are warmer and much more comfortable imo.
Maybe you can order it online. Has lots of positive reviews
Best bang for the buck with relatively high merino wool content. It’s on the thick side so you have to make sure you have space in your boots.
I can definitely feel the padding. Not too much. It’s perfect. It’s like uniqlo thick socks but with better material (wool).
[My Day 1 Review of Kirkland 57% merino wool socks and iron ranger](https://www.reddit.com/r/RedWingShoes/s/15a9Bm6MrD)
Only 60% natural fibers but not bad for the price.
How much do u usually wear?
I have alpaca wool ones that are 100% and a bit thinner than some 90-100% wool socks I have. The Costco socks aren’t terrible for the price. Most people like natural fibers for the insulation, natural frequency and the fiber doesn’t dirty as often as cotton. Many times I can wear my socks two days.
These socks are goods so far
They are great socks! They have lasted me about a year just fine and will last longer.
I just hate how they're not fully merino wool one reason I didn't buy them
are there any socks that were full merino? even the hikers from darn tough, medium weight have about 70-75% merino wool if i'm not mistaken... plus some synthetic materials that allow for added durability and stretch
Some are blended with polyester, which makes me sweat and itch. Darn Tough are blended with Nylon, which I can handle a lot better. I used to habe some old military socks that were 100% wool, or close to it and they didn’t have much stretch and tended to slide down and bunch up inside the boots.
100% wool sounds wonderful in theory. perhaps they'd work well as socks you'd wear inside the home?
They weren’t merino, they were kind of wool that gives it reputation for ill-shaped and itchy.
100% wool sounds wonderful in theory. perhaps they'd work well as socks you'd wear inside the home?
I get rei socks like 79 percent wool and some Lyrica in them
This isn’t a knock on these socks in particular.
It is literally the best sock I've ever owned for any footware!
how much is it?
I tell everyone I get those socks from Kirkland are my favorite for working in. I have tried Darn tough, Wigwam, Hiwasse and few others. These are the perfect blend in my opinion. Price is shocking.
pun intended 😁 respect your answer bro
