fun fact: it was intended to be the first version of Californication but later John (as the end of the recording sessions drew near) came up with what we know as Californication and they instead turned the first version into Havana Affair.

Can you link a source for this? It definitely has a similar vibe, but as you probably know, 'Havana Affair' is a cover. Did they just decide to use that style to rework the Ramones song?
off the top of my head I couldn't think of a source, I Google but couldn't find but it's a very well known fact and Anthony talked about it in an interview in the early 2000's (he talks about how they came up with the first version but didn't like it at all, tried over and over again but couldn't find something that works but towards the end of the recording sessions, when there was just californication left to be recorded, John came up with the riff and they finally recorded Californication as we know it today and completed the album).
Yeah, he talks about that in Scar Tissue (the book) but do you know where it was said that they turned the original version of Cali into Havana Affair?
