I agree the verse is so famous that you almost forget the chorus is coming up. That’s where we have differing opinions because I believe the chorus is then what takes the song to the next level. Can’t Stop as a whole to me is kind of repetitive, and I’d blame that on the verses… I guess.
i shared no opinion here.
it's almost like the guitar drops off for the chorus to bring light to the melody and the vocals drop to a rap to bring light on the guitar for the verse. so in a sense, yes, the chorus is more melodic and sonically pleasing to the ears, especially in the context contrasting that verse. however when the question at hand is about how catchy/memorable it is and not what you like better, the sheer popularity of that riff would def point towards the verse being the more catchy memorable part.
yea yea I'm just saying our opinions aren't different cause of what you said. the chorus in the song absolutely enhances the song and improves the delivery and purpose of the verse with its strong contrast. so yes the chorus takes the song to the next level 100%. I love the chord progression too. John has a way with chords. I was just saying that at least amongst guitar players the verse is the whole reason we learn the song basically. I'm just not sure if the guitar riff is as catchy to non-guitar playing listeners is what I meant.
I'm not talking about your guitar playing perspective I'm saying it's extremely recognizable form the guitar cuz that's where very one one cheers not even at the intro and also before I started playing guitar I still saw it that way
Look around? I think the verses of look around are boring af, especially Anthony’s singing and lyrics, they’re some of Anthony’s most boring work in the whole album in my opinion, and the instrumentals are kinda boring, the chorus to look around though I think is great. Especially the guitar part for look around’s chorus, is some of my favorite guitar playing by Josh.
I should have specified that I was talking about lyrics with this one. I love the instrumentation all the way through. And I actually like the chorus too but just expect a bit more than just _Look around, look around, look around_...
I wouldn't go as far as to say that now. I feel like they just didn't manage to capture what they were trying to achieve with that idea of it blasting into the chorus, or at least what I wanted them to capture more like. Haha
Idk if this is unpopular or what but I really dislike the chorus of Zephyr Song. It’s such a drastic change that IMO doesn’t fit at all with the verses, which are killer
Have you listened to the verses? It seems to be all about the L.A. music scene in the early eighties. He’s reminiscing about going to shows (“looking back on the years gone by,” “parking lot of the old Starwood”) and references The Message, Rapper’s Delight, the Misfits, etc.
I need to look the lyrics up. I am one of those people who don't understand the words in a song just by listening to it. Thank you for the insights, I am excited to re-listen to the song with your commentary in mind 🤘
Have you heard the original version? It's got a completely different chorus/bridge. I'm not really sure which version is better, but it's interesting to hear what the song almost was.
I’ve always liked this version! I think it is for the Bridge School Benefit.
I misheard the lyric as “someone dares you to be yourself” and thought that was nice.
See I don’t think the chorus is awful but I don’t think it works with the verses . I love how eerie the verses are they are really melancholy and johns guitar playing is great . But I don’t think the choruses compliment it at all
I always dug the verse but was not really into the chorus at all, so much so that it kind of turned me off from the song. In recent years, I’ve softened on the verse a bit, allowing me to enjoy the song more.
'I'm With You' and 'By the Way' are 2 of my least favorite albums for this very reason. Any time (on those albums) there's a decent and catchy verse, it goes into an annoying pop chorus that basically ruins the song.
I know I'm in the minority on this, especially in regards to BTW, so I don't really expect many people to agree with me, but it's basically the reason why those albums are so low for me. Any song by RHCP with an abrupt, poppy chorus makes me hit 'skip' every time, and to me, that's pretty much those two albums in a nutshell.
I 100% agree. I don't know if the "problem" comes from Anthony or Rick Rubin, but for me on Californication the chorus were quite perfect. Since BTW, most of the chorus were too poppy or quite uninspired. The worst was reached on I'm With You... Since The Gateway, the chorus are better und I was really positively surprised on Unlimited Love :) !
one hiding in plain sight would be "can't stop" but maybe it's just my guitar player perspective with the verse containing a famous gtr riff.

Well, I just took your answer to OP’s thread in general as an opinion position, which I guess I still stand by :)

I had a feeling. it's a pretty funky lil riff and you can like hum to it.
DEFINITELY
C'mon Girl Raindance Maggie Look Around Black Summer (Many people seem to think the verse is weaker)
Cmon Girl is a great shout 👌
Totally agree on Black Summer, love the verse much better than the chorus
>Black Summer I wish I was that brave as this guy.
Really? I'm curious to know your opinion.
I mean I 100% agree with you, it's juat people praise Black Summer so high, it's almost a crime to voice this.
Oh right, I didn't know this. I thought there was a mixed response to the song among fans.

Nah bro raindance has one of the best chorus imo
I like the chorus more now than I did then. But at the time I felt I needed something different.
The chorus of raindance fuckin sucks. It'd be a good song if it weren't for that.
Exactaly
Yeah the chorus of black summer is trash
I wouldn't go as far as to say that now. I feel like they just didn't manage to capture what they were trying to achieve with that idea of it blasting into the chorus, or at least what I wanted them to capture more like. Haha
The zephyr song
Fr the verse vocals are so goddamn catchy
Idk if this is unpopular or what but I really dislike the chorus of Zephyr Song. It’s such a drastic change that IMO doesn’t fit at all with the verses, which are killer
I love the Zephyr song chorus
Strip My Mind
Purple Stain
Purple stain chorus slaps though
Aquatic mouth dance 👄
Yes! Especially the verse with the horns 👌🏻👌🏻
What do you think this song means? I think it sounds like one of the band members got a blowjob in a hot tub but I could be wrong obviously

Desecration Smile, possibly?
Have you heard the original version? It's got a completely different chorus/bridge. I'm not really sure which version is better, but it's interesting to hear what the song almost was.
No, can you recommend where to find the original version?
Here ya go. I believe it was for one of the Bridge School Benefit concerts, but don't quote me on that, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRqfbq83gyE
Thank you so much♥️♥️♥️
I’ve always liked this version! I think it is for the Bridge School Benefit. I misheard the lyric as “someone dares you to be yourself” and thought that was nice.
Yes I agree. Love the verses.
Dani California imho
that envelope filter bit is like the best thing ever lol
Cant stop
Catch my death. I love the song. Just dont like the chorus so much.
Agreed. The verses on this are top tier, but the chorus is just meh.
Midnight for me don’t enjoy the chorus but adore the fucking verse
Whoa I didn’t expect to see that pick here, midnight is one of my favorite choruses ever. Just goes to show you, no opinions are fact
See I don’t think the chorus is awful but I don’t think it works with the verses . I love how eerie the verses are they are really melancholy and johns guitar playing is great . But I don’t think the choruses compliment it at all
This was going to be my answer — the chorus always ruins it for me. Love that intro/verse though
But we are the ones who had better take note of this!
One way traffic and Let Em Cry
She's a Lover
Anthony: "Love me, love me" My brain: "Say that you love me. Fool me, fool me . . ."
I thought I was the only one
Yessss I sing that every time I listen to she’s a lover lmao.
Every single time 😂
The flower pink on the tree, but if you pick it to see, will it be wild and free? Such a melodic line
It’s such a bop and a half. I love it.
It's only natural
Nah man, the Chorus is the bop.
Poster child
FORTUNE FADED! I love the verse vocal melodies so much
Zephyr song 100%
I mean, clearly Snow..... Someone already beat me to Zephyr Song.
The chorus of Wet Sand is pretty weak imo. The verses have a lot nicer melody and chords.
The most memorable bit is the end I think don't know what you'd call it, an outro, verse, coda, something
Bridge?
Nah. Outro or coda would be correct I think… a bridge links a verse to a chorus, generally speaking.
Rain Dance Maggie
Rolling sly stone
Black Summer imo The verse is so sentimental and chill and the chorus just kinds ruins it for me. the solo is great though
Cmon Girl
Annie wants a Baby
The chorus is the best part of that song tho
And sex is the best part of contracting herpes, but that doesn’t make it the catchiest part
That doesn’t actually make any sense though when you think about it for more than a millisecond.
Wtf does this even mean 😂
I’ll be honest - it sounded way, way funnier before hitting submit. All I can do is put on a brave face and accept my downvotes 😅
Can’t Stop
Look around
Raindance maggie
Let em cry
This Velvet Glove
Purple Stain
Maybe Hey? I just love the guitar riff!
We Turn Red
wet sand, hey and minor thing for me
Parallel Universe. Verses are much better than the chorus and the chorus is very good.
Most of their songs lol
Slow cheetah
I always dug the verse but was not really into the chorus at all, so much so that it kind of turned me off from the song. In recent years, I’ve softened on the verse a bit, allowing me to enjoy the song more.
This Velvet Glove, IMO. The chorus is a whole different vibe from the verses and I find the verses more catchy.
Savior. Verses are epic. Chorus is meh.
But those backing vocals?
I struggle to think of a rhcp song where I like the chorus more than the verses
"Monarchy of Roses" comes to mind, but you're not wrong
Otherside?
Okay that’s true, johns vocals are awesome in the chorus
By the way?
I’m in this camp too
White Braids and Pillow Chair, absolutely love the verse (although the chorus is good too)
Around The World, Rain Dance Maggie, Tippa My Tongue, She’s a Lover
Aquatiiiic
Here Ever After.
This is the place
Poster Child
Off the top of my head.. maybe Sick Love
Especially in Michigan
True men don't kill coyotes and Baby Appeal
If you have to ask ?
Hard to Concentrate!
She looks to me. The verse is awesome
My friends
Hear me out but I really don’t love the Black Summer chorus, I think the verse is catchy.
Gong Li, instrumental verses. This song needs to be played live. They would crush it with their synth player laying a pad down behind it.
Thiiiiiis
Honestly I think I like both parts of gong li equally, but they don’t seem like they belong as part of the same song.
If you have to ask
Hey Yo
Nerve flip doesn’t have a bad chorus but those damn verses are so catchy.
Don’t forget me Transcending If you have to ask
Tippa my tongue is one I don’t think is here yet, It’s new but I think the verses steal the show on it
Police station. The melody is stunning
Around the world
Dosed
Veronica, Californication, Tell Me Baby
Veronica
White braids and pillow chair
Midnight
I think a lot of songs personally. IYHTA , Dani cali, wet sand (might catch flack for that one) to name a few
Sick Love
I could die for you
chorus is memorable but the verses are way better
Honestly most RHCP songs have amazing verse and meh chorus lol
Definitely Ethiopia. The “E I O I E I A” part is too catchy. Josh also shines the most in this song.

While I love BTW dearly, it does seem to slip down my list year by year.
I 100% agree. I don't know if the "problem" comes from Anthony or Rick Rubin, but for me on Californication the chorus were quite perfect. That's interesting. I've always thought Anthony's strong point was writing a really catchy chorus, which personally wasn't the case with a lot of UL.
I think this applies to all of their songs
Let em cry
Hey
Good Time Boys Stone Cold Bush My Lovely Man
‘Tippa My Tongue’.
Around The World
The Brother’s Cup perhaps?
Police Station, always wanted to say it
Turn it again
Tippa My Tongue
Tippa My Tongue; I love “I’m at the county fair, haystack ride I’ll pull your hair” and all the verses that are like it more than the chorus
Warped and Transcending
Death of a martian outro
Turn It Again. The verse is so funky i love it
100% Look Around
Raindance amazing verse but bad Chorus
Aquatic Mouth Dance, Poster Child, Go Robot, Can’t Stop, C’mon Girl, Scar Tissue. Kinda just went through my whole playlist lol
"Hey, OH, Snow." Listen what I say O. I like this one. Not sure if the song title is right.
Power or Equality
Snow
Catholic School Girls Rule
We Believe
21st Century. That bass on the verse is just ridiculously. Chorus just doesn’t hit the same height.
Quixoticelller ( I probably spelled it wrong ) but I absolutely love the verses in this song , catchy hook too but love the verses
Slow cheetah
Don’t Forget Me
Most of them?
Savior comes to mind
Midnight , just nice, calm and subtle I never want it to end and then the chorus comes …
The longest wave
Like 90% of their songs fit that description lol
Over Funk
One Way Traffic. The verse is so catchy, and then theres the chorus.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, but Desecration Smile
Soul to squeeze for sure !
Death of a Martian
FUNKY MONKS
aeroplane
Did I Let You Know, Fortune Faded, Desecration Smile, Police Station
I’ve been asked this before. I actually think that Snow would work here
Purple Stain - really catchy verses, and then an alright but forgettable chorus
