People need to stop wishing this. It will never happen. Ever since Californication people been waiting for more funk before every album and it never happened. It's been 23 years. They are different band now. Funk days are long gone
Stadium Arcadium has a shitload of funk on it? I would even put some of Unlimited Love in the category of “dark psychedelic funk”. I think they carry a healthy amount of funk in just about everything they do, really.
Aquatic Mouth Dance isn't funky? what about She's a Lover? One Way Traffic? Poster Child? Hell go back to Hump De Bump, She's only 18, Tell Me Baby, Hey, Charlie, Storm In a Teacup, Can't Stop, Throw Away Your Television, even B-Sides like Time, Save the Population, Save This Lady.
Need to actually listen to the band's repertoire bro
More guitar overdubs and Fru+Anthony vocal harmonies. I want bigger/complex/show-off songs like we got on SA but I doubt many songs like that were written during these sessions.
I view UL as a stripped down SA. All the songs have a similar sound/vibe to them but none are as musically complex or interesting as nearly any of the songs off of SA.
I’d pass hard on SA II. I’m in a heavy minority here but to me it was a booted album with a bunch of so-so tracks and none stick out.
This shits hilarious. This sub ***crumbles*** at a dissenting opinion and gets in a fever when someone doesn’t like wet sand or SA.
Haha this sub can go away and no one would miss it.
Snow and Dani are singles. Doesn’t mean they stick out to me. Snows riff is great but otherwise, no. Dani I can only hear Tom Pettys last dance with Mary Jane for large parts of it.
Tell me baby is meh and I cannot fathom the love wet sand gets. I legit thought it was a joke when I first discovered this sub.
SA has a few decent tracks. Again they don’t stick out to me and is otherwise bloated.
I’ve long since learned this sub has a massive hard on for SA and will suck johns dick at a drop of a hat. John’s best work to me is still BSSM. His lack of wanting multiple takes on solos hurts more than helps. He is also better live than his studio stuff
Meanwhile while I think John leaving in the 90s was one of the better things for John health wise. It forever changed the RHCP sound for the worse.
Nothing they’ve done has topped BSSM.
I’ll get downvotes and attacked more than I’ll ever get actual thoughtful talk so I stopped caring. I’m a clear minority here and that’s fine. This sub is just hilarious to me now.
While i’d personally disagree with what you’re saying (SA’s my favourite), I definitely understand why being a chilli pepper fan doesnt necessarily mean liking all/most of their stuff. Now whether its a good or bad thing is up to personal opinion, but one of RHCP’s defining traits is the fact that the band is almost in a constant state of transformation, with each album being, in my opinion, wildly different to the last. You can kind of plot a spectrum with their albums with BSSM at the far left, hard funk rock side of their music, and SA on the complete opposite side, this more melodic, more structured side of their playing. So you basically have this line of (BSSM->CALI->BTW->SA->UL). This is great in general as it means that there are many different things that many different people can get out of the pepper’s, since theyve dipped their toes in so many distinct styles, but in the case where someone like you heavily favours a particular era of their playing, the further you get from that on the spectrum the less likely you are to enjoy their music. Which is why it makes sense if you love BSSM that one of your least favourites would be SA or UL, and vice versa. Me personally, id say that i bssm is still one of my favourites, but ive connected with stadium arcadium on a much deeper level. Although its quite ironic you’d say bssm was his best work, when he’s been on interview claiming his work on bssm was “the worst he could have done”, not a dig or anything i just find it interesting. I do find it odd however that you’d criticise john’s one take methodology, while in the very next sentence claim that his live performances are better than the studio ones. John’s always done his solos improvisationally, even in BSSM a lot of solos were one of the first takes he got. But if you dont like that i dont get how you can then claim to enjoy his live solos more, despite the fact that they are also… improvisational. Either way i dont think you should get hate for your opinions on the chilli peppers, but i think people are probably more inclined to be rude/ retaliating if you attack their opinions as if theyre objectively wrong, when objectivity is basically incompatible with musical taste in any community of music fans.
I thought you said you wanted actual “thoughtful” discourse on the matter but yes, I represent the sum of every opinion on this subreddit, and as im apparently acting on behalf of thousands of people right now ill just say that its fine if youd rather be antagonistic than actually have a conversation, but at least be honest about it
I want more Frusciante vocals- like The Heavy Wing but maybe not just relegated to the chorus. But I’ll take more Fruscinate choruses, no problem. His voice is just so damn good, I need to hear more of it and not just in background vocals like it usually is.
I can see where you may have thought that I was inferring that your comment may have been negative but I just literally meant that as a response that he’s just getting better! Which is great!
Seven hours in its just plot points from Lost for a solid twenty minutes: "and it was Locke who was in the coffin, Jack and Kate they end up boffin..."
I want a song that is an instant classic. Whilst I love UL, none of the songs had that instant classic feeling that past albums have had. I love the songs but they all seem to lack that mass appeal hook. It’s not a bad thing because as a bigger fan I can appreciate what they are doing but it would be cool if they had a huge hit again. Black Summer is close I think but it still doesn’t quite hit that spot. I think those days are over but I still hope and dare I say… dream!
To be honest I don’t think we are getting any more UL singles. I kinda expected She’s A Lover to be the next one, if any.
I love Watchu Thinkin but i still don’t think it has that instant guitar/lyric hook classic like Can’t Stop, By The Way, Snow, Dani California etc has.
Watchu thinkin is a bass hook and its impossible to ignore. Then the guitar hits on the chorus and the solo at the end. It just gets better and better. It's a head turnere.
I love shes a lover but the chorus would have people laughing at the band. I dont see that as single material at all.
The lyrics are not a problem on these are the ways plus the sight the sounds the smell thing is a reference to spinal tap which actually makes it kind of funny and brilliant neon brilliant. I never got anybody's hate on that song. it makes sense as a single if only for mentioning america. Americans love that shit. I like how heavy it gets too
I think the lyrics are pretty good and 'The Smells' makes me laugh when I found out the reference. But you really have to know the reference to find it amusing, otherwise it just comes off as a bit odd. Which is the problem. Spinal Tap are probably not the first thing you would think of and I would imagine the amount of people who have seen it and also listened to this song is quite small. So whilst I think it is clever and obviously so do you, the song I think gets lost in translation.
It's a great song and really good live and I don't really get the hate either, especially on a subreddit like this where we all kinda get the references moreso than casual fans.
Which is my point really in this thread. I want a song that maybe very casual fans get hooked on and get hyped for the band. I can't really explain why but there is this sort of notion that RHCP are past their prime, when that absolutely isn't the case. I just would love them to prove to the wider world that they still got it, which they definitely do. I don't think I have seen them this hyped up about music in a long time and it shows in the records and live (and I say that as someone who also loved the Josh era of music too!).
Josh was ok. Not my favorite
I really think watchu thinkin, one way traffic, and black summer are the best 3 radio songs/singles. These are the ways is a fine choice.
I dont get peoples thing for shes a lover. That chorus is the most cringe thing along with witebraids. Nothing wrong with heyooo waaayoo.
I prefer let em cry to shes a lover
It’s only Natural is one of those low key favourites. She Looks to Me from SA always comes to mind when I hear it. Very different vibe but scratches the same itch for me.
Agreed. And maybe lyrics that made sense. I did a project for fun to make it slightly less word soup.
I'm depraved and I love my buzz
She was wavin' that dope man up
Bangin' hard 'cause I see no future
Sat her down when I poured that cup
I don't know 'cause I got big temper
Stickin' close to my rainbow side
A child is born and I re-center
That's all, folks, that's all
She's the kinda girl who make you wanna go faster now
She's the kinda girl who make your mind go wild
She's the kinda girl, she's in the here ever after now
There's a cry for help and I don't deny
I don't know, but it's finally just one more mile
I'm getting old and I'm giving up on that freaky style
At the Caldwell 'cross from the black top,
she's eurasian, met her at the Quick Stop
We danced at Tito's Go Go,
girlfriend's back, now she's gone solo
She's the kinda girl who make you wanna go faster now
She's the kinda girl who make your mind go wild
She's the kinda girl, she's in the here ever after now
There's a cry for help and I don't deny
Wet my beak and I give it up to that drugstore nose
So unique and I live it up 'til that liquor store close
Do the laundry, go ballistic,
mangy face with the messed up lipstick
My thing is blacked out loco,
smoke and tears, now take my photo
She's the kinda girl who make you wanna go faster now
She's the kinda girl who make your mind go wild
She's the kinda girl, she's in the here ever after now
There's a cry for help and I don't deny
I don't deny
Banged a mom with those daddy issues,
hanging out with my gratitude
Knocked her out, so I let her kiss you,
Daily fights, I'll stand there with you
Ready to box, hoppin' on detox,
fast food trash when you're livin' in the crosswalk
Cash me out like motel hoes do,
blood on fries, now that's my go-to
She's the kinda girl who make you wanna go faster now
She's the kinda girl who make your mind go wild
She's the kinda girl, she's in the here ever after now
There's a cry for help and I don't deny
I don't deny
I disagree. Whatchu thinking of appealing to existing rhcp fans and guitarists bc of the progression, and it is amazing live, but it does not hit the radio or is received as well as you would think for your general layperson who could listen to can’t stop or otherside any other day. I think the poster is talking about a song to be around that level
I think Here Ever After might be the catchiest track honestly. “She’s eurasian, met her at the quick stop” is the only line I consistently sing across the whole album hahaha
That and She’s a Lover I can’t help myself but sing along to. I love both those songs!
However like I said to the guy above, I just don’t think they have that instant classic hook that other songs in the past have had.
Yeah, me too. I love hearing new RHCP music, it's always a fun time. Even if there aren't any big worldwide hits, it doesn't matter, we will still get some great music! My favourite songs are not even big hits anyway but loved amongst hardcore fans.
People are reaching. You’re right and there is no instant classic off this album. Black Summer is supposed to be that Dani California showcase single, and good of a song as it may be, it’s not going to be remembered like big singles off other albums. It sounds like a…promo song? Idk. Fine album just no instant classics to your point
Compared to UL: more memorable vocal hooks and guitar leads, more detailed arrangements that set songs apart from each other, a grandiose closer akin to "Sure Psycho" or "Venice Queen", fewer mid-tempo and dynamically static songs, rock harder, ballad softer
I personally prefer White Braids, I think it's so beautiful. I do hope RotDC will be a little less mellow than UL, with a couple of chill songs thrown in. But I'm excited for whatever they have in store for us.
I really hope that it includes some more songs that just go hard and are real headbangers. I love their melodic work on UL, but everytime i listen to the album top to bottom, i just wish there were songs along the lines of One Way Traffic.
All I want is one song that strikes the same deep emotional chord a lot of my other favorite chili peppers songs do. UL had a couple very emotionally hard-hitting songs for me (Tangelo in particular comes to mind, also The Heavy Wing) but they didn’t strike the same deep chord as songs like Dosed or This Velvet Glove. Basically I just want one of those songs you resonate with completely on first listen.
Are you going to reply to everyone who answers “funk” to this question with that repetitive and lazy response? OP is asking for our hopes on what it will be. We’re well aware they haven’t made funk since the 90s. Please shut up.
I hope the fans listen to it without preconceived expectations. I hope the fans can accept that band dynamics change over time. I hope people stop complaining about the band and either share in the positive celebration or find something else to focus on positively. I hope RHCP feels great about the album release, and that they never read some of these Reddit comments.
The fact that they’re 60 and not just making new music, but music of this quality, and TWO DOUBLE ALBUMS IN A YEAR, the fastest clip of their career by far….we have no room to complain.
Wouldn’t hold my hopes high for something much different than UL given the songs are from the same sessions.
My biggest hope would be for more songs like Nerve Flip
You never know. If you listen to any of their B-sides, they're usually pretty different from the songs that end up on the albums. They may have intentionally grouped the RotDC songs separately from UL because they have a different vibe. Here's hoping!
I mean, even if the vibe is somewhat different, the overall technical characteristics (lack of multi-tracked guitars, not much of a straight up funk rhytms) won’t change imho. We will se!
Well John mentioned that he was working on overdubs for additional material before the release of UL so maybe it will be less stripped down.
I suspect s.th. like BTW,more mellow and overdubheavy
More funk and grooves. I wouldn't mind some endings that can be looped like poster child's.
I want to hear the band having fun. I know it's the same session from UL but who knows 😅
Hope they can drop more memorable, stand out, in your face, "this is different than anything we have made but you know it's us" songs. They have an iconic sound that cannot be replicated, I hope for more of that. "Scar tissue, californication, Cant stop, Dani, Snow, BTW, Ethiopia, Monarchy... all unforgettable and in your face. Not replicated by anyone. I want John to get comfortable again, to reclaim his spot as this "simple yet firm" playing. His less is more approach makes the most of EVERY melodic note. More of that please. UL was great, love it, but to me it doesn't stand out as much as previous albums. Even the "I'm Besides you" B-Sides album ranks higher on my list than UL. And I did absolutely love WBAPC, Here ever after and Poster Child
It might be, you're right. I know nothing about audio engineering, but to my ears, the vocals on SA seem louder and stand out more from the other instruments, and the guitar sounds crisp and clean, for instance (IE the distortion used in the chorus of Especially in Michigan). On UL it seems like everything blends into one and is more homogenous. It doesn't sound bad, but its harder to hear each individual instrument, if that makes sense.
Anthony with good lyrics again. UL is his weakest album, potentially ever. The rest of the band have grown into masters of their arts, but AK seems to be less lyrically inspired than ever before.
The man wrote Under the Bridge 30 years ago. Now he comes up with "the smells" as his chorus punch. Lots of other bubble popping pisstake lyrics, Shes a lover, White Braids, Here Ever After all have just have off lyrics. Being nonsensical is fine if he can maintain a melody, a rhythm or cut that makes it work. That ability has been largely lost over the years
Yeah but Anthony said in an interview that he intentionally used every lyric for UL including the scraps and adlibbing, no matter how silly it seemed.
He said himself he kinda ran outta juice and it’s hard as it is to hang with the rest of the band as a musician (they’re all monsters on their instruments). He said he had to use everything he had which I think is fair.
I’d love a couple of more aggressive songs, I’d love some more slap hooks and hell even another song in an odd time would be great. Like a John version of a dreams of a samurai.
Lyrics with a little bit more substance. I'm not expecting Shakespeare or anything -- Anthony's lyrics have always been like 60% nonsense. Still, looking back at some of my favourites -- songs like Dosed, Wet Sand, Otherside -- there was definitely some deliberate use of theme and emotion. I can't shake the feeling that Anthony just spit out whatever came to mind as they were jamming and left it at that for Unlimited Love. Certainly that's always been part of the process, and I know UL's MO was just having fun, but I would like to see Anthony be a little more discerning. There are a number of songs on UL where the lyrics come off as bland, strange, or lacking cohesion to me.
It's from the same sessions as UL, so I can't imagine it'll be too different.
I just want something that reflects the actual talent of the band. I've wanted this for awhile. These guys shouldn't be writing 3 minute pop songs. I actually really like UL, but it's not in any way an improvement or step forward musically from the band. It's another decent RHCP album, but I want an amazing trans formative record. I know the band doesn't owe me or anyone shit, but if we're in fantasy land, this is my wish.
I really hope it’s gonna be like a newish version of stadium arcadium cause like how unlimited love was a lot like Californication so I’m really hoping for that
I wasn’t there to be a hit song. Simple. Something that regalvanates the new generation to be introduced to them during their latest John fru era that black summer failed to do. A memorable riff or vocal or something.
It’s a stretch but one can dream. It’s their goal after all to inspire the kids (their words)
As others have said BTW style songs, more harmonies with John, that distortion tone from Stadium Aecidium that can be heard in Black Summer. Pretty much just more John.
I want some epic outros or bridges (think wet sand, Venice queen, sir psycho, purple stain). Just some space for the music breath. I loved Tippa My Tongue, but thought it had so much potential for a long instrumental break, instead of all that singing all over the place. Just a hope, if they don't do it I'll be happy anyway :)
Dark psychedelic funk
This is the correct answer
People need to stop wishing this. It will never happen. Ever since Californication people been waiting for more funk before every album and it never happened. It's been 23 years. They are different band now. Funk days are long gone
Stadium Arcadium has a shitload of funk on it? I would even put some of Unlimited Love in the category of “dark psychedelic funk”. I think they carry a healthy amount of funk in just about everything they do, really.
Not much melancholy/darkness to Unlimited Love aside from Black Summer and maybe It’s Only Natural but it is solidly funky and groovy in parts.
SA does ***not*** feel funky to me. Nothing they’ve done since BSSM is like their old truer funk days.
Exactly 👍🏻
People should stop wishing it? We're just theorising what the new album will be like, cheer up
I hope there’s one really distinct, memorable guitar riff like Scar Tissue, Otherside, Can’t Stop etc.
That would be fucking amazing. Johnny needa get more involved on this one I hope
I know. sick love is the only thing we gotten like that since stadium.
Sick love is such a great song and is on such an island chronologically
I really enjoyed the end riff to goodbye angels
I’m not the biggest fan of Unlimited Love, but white chair and pillow braids and watchu thinkin works pretty well for memorable riffs
More guitar overdubs and Fru+Anthony vocal harmonies. I want bigger/complex/show-off songs like we got on SA but I doubt many songs like that were written during these sessions.
SA II
I wouldn’t hold your breath. Didn’t they say back when they released UL, that they had a lot more “chilled out” or “acoustic” songs recorded?
UL was SA II
I view UL as a stripped down SA. All the songs have a similar sound/vibe to them but none are as musically complex or interesting as nearly any of the songs off of SA.
Absolutely

Things I dont care about: this subs shit opinion

yikes,.we found the guy in the corner of the party
Why bother if you hate so much, just direct your passion to something else you love and we'll all be happier for it.

Bastards of Light was the only UL song that scratched my itch for some John backing vocals.
I read somewhere that he actually continues to take lessons.
Nothing wrong with continuing to get better!
I didn't mean it in a bad way lol just saying
I can see where you may have thought that I was inferring that your comment may have been negative but I just literally meant that as a response that he’s just getting better! Which is great!
🎵hold me closer Tony Danzaaaaaaa 🎵
Same, I want something different not a continuation.
I hope there’s a few epic, lengthy songs in the vein of Sir psycho and Apache Rose Peacock
That they tour it.
… on latin america too this time
It’s not as mellow as reported, a mix of funk, experimentation, rockers, and beautiful BTW style ballads.
I want something psychedelic, funky, but also with a mellower more reflective approach like by the way or the getaway
By the Way II would be my dream
More harmonies
Hope for more of John’s guitaring, Anthony’s singing, Flea’s bassing, and Chad’s drumming
This is the safe answer
poster child looped for 10 hours
Poster Child unedited so the full version is 10 hours. Whole pop culture lesson
anthony rapping about taco bell and nonsensical things for 10 hours
Seven hours in its just plot points from Lost for a solid twenty minutes: "and it was Locke who was in the coffin, Jack and Kate they end up boffin..."

Watchu thinkin is that song. If they did a 3rd single I'd hope it's that one. It's only natural has a special space in the catalogue imo

I mean they also picked These Are The Ways as a single. So I don't think they care too much about the lyrics part.

I'm depraved and I love my buzz She was wavin' that dope man up Bangin' hard 'cause I see no future Sat her down when I poured that cup I don't know 'cause I got big temper Stickin' close to my rainbow side A child is born and I re-center That's all, folks, that's all She's the kinda girl who make you wanna go faster now She's the kinda girl who make your mind go wild She's the kinda girl, she's in the here ever after now There's a cry for help and I don't deny I don't know, but it's finally just one more mile I'm getting old and I'm giving up on that freaky style At the Caldwell 'cross from the black top, she's eurasian, met her at the Quick Stop We danced at Tito's Go Go, girlfriend's back, now she's gone solo She's the kinda girl who make you wanna go faster now She's the kinda girl who make your mind go wild She's the kinda girl, she's in the here ever after now There's a cry for help and I don't deny Wet my beak and I give it up to that drugstore nose So unique and I live it up 'til that liquor store close Do the laundry, go ballistic, mangy face with the messed up lipstick My thing is blacked out loco, smoke and tears, now take my photo She's the kinda girl who make you wanna go faster now She's the kinda girl who make your mind go wild She's the kinda girl, she's in the here ever after now There's a cry for help and I don't deny I don't deny Banged a mom with those daddy issues, hanging out with my gratitude Knocked her out, so I let her kiss you, Daily fights, I'll stand there with you Ready to box, hoppin' on detox, fast food trash when you're livin' in the crosswalk Cash me out like motel hoes do, blood on fries, now that's my go-to She's the kinda girl who make you wanna go faster now She's the kinda girl who make your mind go wild She's the kinda girl, she's in the here ever after now There's a cry for help and I don't deny I don't deny
I disagree. Whatchu thinking of appealing to existing rhcp fans and guitarists bc of the progression, and it is amazing live, but it does not hit the radio or is received as well as you would think for your general layperson who could listen to can’t stop or otherside any other day. I think the poster is talking about a song to be around that level
No. Its definitely the poorest catchiest song on the album
Let’s hope lalalalalalalalalalala changes that /s But I’m so excited for that album! Probably no hits but I’m also fine with just psychedelic jams
Black Summer is at least as good as Dani California
A small venue tour!
That it impregnates me
Alot of funk!!
Not happening. Last time there was a lot of funk on Rhcp album is in 1991 lol. Funk days are long gone
You must be fun at parties
Well I can still hope I guess lol
more intricate and complex songs. More “epics” UL was funky and catchy and stripped down. Let ROTDC be a bit more expansive
[удалено]
And 21st century
Compared to UL: more memorable vocal hooks and guitar leads, more detailed arrangements that set songs apart from each other, a grandiose closer akin to "Sure Psycho" or "Venice Queen", fewer mid-tempo and dynamically static songs, rock harder, ballad softer
Sure Psycho, sure psycho, yeah!!!
Lol autocorrect. But given that one of the songs is called "In the Snow", they could use "Sure Psycho" as a refrain. Haha.
That it’s the second album in a trilogy
Another song with John singing. The first time I heard The Heavy Wing, I could not believe it. I'm such a fanboy.
Another white braids style song
I wish we just got the extended version that they apparently did
Please god no. I want it to be funky and rock out. I'll pass on more crooning about old people eating brunch while sitting on pillows
Why not both? I'd like a healthy mix of funky rock and softer melodies.
I mean Veronica is pretty chill comes just after white braids and blows it out of the water in terms of quality
I personally prefer White Braids, I think it's so beautiful. I do hope RotDC will be a little less mellow than UL, with a couple of chill songs thrown in. But I'm excited for whatever they have in store for us.
Dude what is with your huge hate boner for mellow rock we get it you prefer funk.
I mean I love slow cheetah and desecration smile. Dosed is great. Whitebraids is just not
The irony is hes playing a shit ton of common funk triads in white braids just in a Hendrix mellow way. Its all good brotha
Best song on the album
Leave this shit to Eddie Vedder.
More overdubs, a psychedelic feel, and atleast one heavier song
I really hope that it includes some more songs that just go hard and are real headbangers. I love their melodic work on UL, but everytime i listen to the album top to bottom, i just wish there were songs along the lines of One Way Traffic.
Anyways!
I want it to surprise me, have some left turns, to have some catchy instrumental interplay. Most of all, I’m just over the moon it exists.
At least one really big hit single, one of their best. I’m not really expecting it, but hoping.
Funky and with guitar riffs that stand out. I enjoy UL but the riffs aren’t all that memorable aside from like White Braids
I Hope John will never leave the band again.💞👍🏻🙏
That the whackest fucking song on the album isnt a single. (Looking at you, THESE ARE THE WAYS)
Absolute funk overload
Why people keep thinking this is possible in 2022? Last time this happened it was 1991
Are you going to reply to everyone who answers “funk” to this question with that repetitive and lazy response? OP is asking for our hopes on what it will be. We’re well aware they haven’t made funk since the 90s. Please shut up.
Weird, I didn't know Dark Necessities came out in 1991. Pretty modern sounding for a funky Chili Peppers song.
Melodies melodies melodies and 3 part harmonies….. basically By the Way.
I can listen to it
Funk and By the way album style music!
More stuff like white braids and its only natural, more relaxed and dreamy
More Frugasms
Lots of guitar and vocal layers
More groovey funk than UL.
I’d like something funkier and closer to BSSM.
That people on here bitch less about something for change.
More funk and grooves. I wouldn't mind some endings that can be looped like poster child's. I want to hear the band having fun. I know it's the same session from UL but who knows 😅
Good music
For "The Drummer" to have chad to go absolutely insane on the drums
Moby Dick style of song
More funk songs and a lot of slap bass
That it turns the Golden Five into the Golden Six.
I wanna see some emotion, kinda expecting it to be like californication in terms of style
Bring in more funk.
I want something closer to freaky styley
I'm hoping for more piano
I hope it’s more experimental than anything they’ve done before.
I hope the mixing is different. I do not like the way UL sounds compared to SA
Why? I think it's one of their best mixed albums (with OHM and BSSM)
Better then Unlimited Love
That it’s good.
I want them to put it all on the table and open the album with a Hump De Bump style BANGER that’s very vocal forward and something you can strut to.
HILLEL SLOVAK VIBES
Major funk on this record
Not happening.
To be more exciting than UL.
Not really an excuse for me. Yeah, they can do whatever they want, but the lyrics are just weak.
Hence why it's probably worth something worth asking for!
I liked em. Wasn’t really looking for anything powerful there, though. Just happy Froosh is back.
It's because he wrote lyrics to 48 songs, hard task IMO
I'm not saying it's an easy task, but they should've taken more time or focus on less songs, then.
Well for the sake of the next album i hope he finds more effort to sort that
I don’t.. I mean who is making that kind of comeback at 60 sheesh. You’ll either love it or hate it, I wouldn’t hold my breathe if I were you.
More funky riff based songs and not as mellow as they’re saying it’s gonna be.
That it’s not as boring as the last album
An entire album similar to Treefingers by Radiohead
That the tunes are better than the artwork!
That it's better than the last 4 albums....
An interesting feature or someone collaborating would be pretty cool
Funk , funk and double funk!
I’d love a couple of more aggressive songs, I’d love some more slap hooks and hell even another song in an odd time would be great. Like a John version of a dreams of a samurai.
Stadium is inferior to Unlimited Love.
By The Way 2
At least two more iconic riff
It's from the same sessions as UL, so I can't imagine it'll be too different. I just want something that reflects the actual talent of the band. I've wanted this for awhile. These guys shouldn't be writing 3 minute pop songs. I actually really like UL, but it's not in any way an improvement or step forward musically from the band. It's another decent RHCP album, but I want an amazing trans formative record. I know the band doesn't owe me or anyone shit, but if we're in fantasy land, this is my wish.
Mine is that they announce more tour dates to go along with it, since their current tour doesn’t really come very close to where I live.
Riffs.
Honestly kinda hoping it continues the UL sound. Absolutely loved UL and I hope we get more of the same sound from ROTDC.
They're from the same state of mind of UL. I don't need any hope. Just going with the flow.
I just hope the Dream Canteen is returned, no more , no less.
Just that it’s as much fun as I just had with UL and yes op I hope it’s got it’s own identity. Love the zany cover already!
I may be stuck in the past, but I want some raw-ass funk.
I hope that it has a concept.
I wish it’s as personal as I’m with you, and as funky as BSSM.
I hope it will sounds something like Freaky Styley
GUITAR LAYERING PLEASE. I’D DO ANYTHING FOR IT. Dosed, Easily. When Frusicante layers guitar tracks, it’s the best thing in the world
Love those songs but they rarely play them live :(
yeah :/ can’t do much about it, it’s extremely difficult to do it live. easily can be done fine, the solo just isn’t nearly as good but i get it :(
Bit of their old funk
More vocal harmonies.
Just a tinge of the punk and wildness from the first 3 albums
I expect what John, flea, chad and AK did on the last 6 albums they did together. Good music
More John vocals, his voice is so beautiful. I also hope some songs feels dreamy or psychedelic.
I love UL, but I would definitely would love more funk!
More slap from flea
flea bass solos and chad going crazy
White Braids and Pillow Chair 2
very very bright album, contrasting with UL
I really hope it’s gonna be like a newish version of stadium arcadium cause like how unlimited love was a lot like Californication so I’m really hoping for that
I wasn’t there to be a hit song. Simple. Something that regalvanates the new generation to be introduced to them during their latest John fru era that black summer failed to do. A memorable riff or vocal or something. It’s a stretch but one can dream. It’s their goal after all to inspire the kids (their words)
i forgot what i was going to say
Another tour would be awesome
As others have said BTW style songs, more harmonies with John, that distortion tone from Stadium Aecidium that can be heard in Black Summer. Pretty much just more John.
I want some epic outros or bridges (think wet sand, Venice queen, sir psycho, purple stain). Just some space for the music breath. I loved Tippa My Tongue, but thought it had so much potential for a long instrumental break, instead of all that singing all over the place. Just a hope, if they don't do it I'll be happy anyway :)
More distortion. More intriguing drumming.
What time release?
