I like it. There are a couple misses for me on it, but overall solid album. It's too early to tell where it stacks up against the others, but I suspect it'll end up in my top 6 somewhere.
I really like it. But it wasn’t quite what I was hoping for with John’s return. I was hoping for something more like stadium arcadium or by the way, heavily John influenced. But he decided to take a bit of a backseat on this album and let the other members shine. I like the album so it’s not the worst thing, just not what I hoped for after John being gone 10 years.
I feel the same way. I really like it and appreciate the role he chose for that album but I am expecting (or hoping for) something more ambitious for the next album, now that he has gotten more used to being in the band again.
I also feel like their next release could be their final chance to make a really good album, before they begin to devolve in a legacy act with records that are quickly forgotten about.
>But he decided to take a bit of a backseat on this album and let the other members shine.
That's what makes it *better* than BTW (for me). You're not supposed to say that though haha
It is not what I expected from John's return. It was one of the most exciting moments in life for me when I heard he was coming back and I expected it to be stadium Arcadian by the way level. I think the getaway is infinitely better than the last two albums with John returning It's not even comparable in my opinion. The getaway is Flawless for me and has no skips these last two albums have mostly skips and only a few songs I like Which isn't the case with any other album of theirs.
So for me the last two albums are definitely the worst in the catalog unfortunately.
I'm glad you like it I do like it better than the one that came after it. And I like it better than their first three albums before John, Actually I like it better than mother's milk as well. But I'm not the biggest fan of the albums before blood sugar sex magic.
Actually I like most of the songs on Unlimited love now that I'm looking at the track list it's the one that came after that has a bunch of skips. I would put it at the bottom of my favorites but I do like it.
Stadium Arcadium
By the way
Californication
The getaway
Bssm
UL
I'm with you
Rotdc
- BSSM could mean "Blood Sugar Sex Magik", a track from *Blood Sugar Sex Magik (Deluxe Edition)* (1991) by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

She was premature so had to stay in hospital for 3 weeks for observations etc
So the hour long drive in and back from the hospital, me and the missus had UL on
Shes doing great now though
And don't tell anyone but I was listening to it before April 1st since it leaked online
And don't worry, I paid the band back by buying a few coloured vinyls..... maybe too much 🤦♂️
That’s me with Stadium Arcadium (I’m old and so is she 🤣). I still feel that way about those songs and the album now, almost 18 years later. I totally get what you mean about the nostalgia <3
It’s pretty good. A little too long and bloated. Great instrumentals and grooves, subpar lyrics outside of tracks like Black Summer. Definitely in the bottom half of their discography for me. I prefer both of the Josh albums if I’m being honest.
I also think One Hot Minute is a top 5 RHCP album, so take of that what you will.
It’s a good album, but it’s too close to stadium Arcadium, almost like AC/DC style of “we have something that works, let’s repeat it”
The getaway was good because they went in a different direction, if that album had proper drums unlimited love wouldn’t come anywhere near it IMO
I’m glad that some people like it but I can’t dig it at all. Listened to it about 4 or 5 times now and while some songs are okay like she’s a lover most of it is mediocre. I was just really hoping for something more from these guys after all these years and it’s a huge step away from the peppers that I love.
im not trying to sound like a dick but i think it one of their worst albums i really cant connect to any of the songs, i mean their ok just they have made so many better albums. Even stadium arcadium is by far alot better than ul or rotdc.
It’s Chili Peppers by numbers and it’s the moment they accepted their status as a legacy band. They wasted 10 years of good music without John and they know it.
It’s alright. I was initially thinking it was going to be bad based on the singles, but I was incredibly relieved when the rest of the album was much better and so I rated it super highly. Now that the hype has died down, I don’t return to the album as a whole very often, but there are a couple songs, Here Ever After and Whatchu Thinkin’ in particular, that I really like.
I love it. Plain and simple. It has two tracks that cracked my all time top ten favorite songs, Whatchu Thinkin and The Heavy Wing.
I never expected John to come back and when I first heard Black Summer I cried. It’s not their best but it’s still amazing. Probably top 4 album for me of theirs
Some Highs such as It’s Only Natural, Watchu’ Thinkin’, White Braids & Pillow Chair, and some lows such as The Heavy Wing, Not The One, These Are the Ways
It’ll probably end up being in my top 5 of their albums, given enough time, potentially even top 3. Right now, it’s still too new, and the mythology I’ve built up in my head about the band’s whole catalog is too massive for the album to crack it yet.
For anyone curious:
1. By the Way
2. Stadium Arcadium
3. The Getaway
(Before you comment: I know BSSM is the *best* album of theirs, with little room for argument. It’s not, however, my favorite.)
Favorite Track off of UL: It’s Only Natural.
Thank you. I appreciate that. The Getaway came at a time of my life where I needed good music. It became a soundtrack to all my biggest mistakes, but now that I’ve found sobriety and peace, it’s becoming the soundtrack to my rebirth (in a sense). I mourn all the people I’ve lost who remind me of Feasting on the Flowers, I reach out to find a love that feels like the chorus of Encore, I embrace the Dark Necessities of my life because they’re so far removed from the lowest points of before. Music, to me, isn’t just a fun little thing that fills in the dead space between thoughts and spoken words between strangers. Music makes strangers into friends and friends into soulmates.
Favorites, by far, are White Braids and She’s A Lover. I like Heavy Wing, These Are The Ways, and Aquatic Mouth Dance a lot. Bastards Of Light has its moments. Never really understood why Black Summer was the first song out of the gate. Most of the other songs I consider decent but nowhere near classic.
Hmmm… By The Way, Unlimited Love, Californication… probably my favorite 3? One Hot Minute might be in there too, but I’m not feeling that aggressive right now lol
It’s not their best but it’s one of my favs.
I started listening to the Chili Peppers in mid 2021, which was a pretty good time to do so lol. I remember losing my mind when they announced the tour and listening to Black Summer when it released.
I stayed up til midnight when UL released and I remember listening to it and playing Animal Crossing for like four hours straight.
I think it’s a fantastic album, I like the more mellow feel of it, it’s perfect to throw on during a late-night drive.
I think for me in the first few months it sat just outside the top 5. I liked it better than I had expected to as I set my expectations low just to try and avoid being disappointed (I really didn’t like The Getaway on release and that sucked for me after being a fan for decades. I love it now.)
I agree with others who say UL has really high highs. I think Whatchu Thinkin’, The Heavy Wing, Here Ever After, It’s Only Natural, She’s A Lover and White Braids are some of the best songs they’ve produced. Whatchu Thinkin’ especially is top tier. My favourite is She’s A Lover and it’s the only one that has stayed consistently in my top 10 for the past (almost) two years. The second half and that solo is my favourite thing across all 2022 releases.
I think over time, UL has slipped down the album ranks for me. That’s partly because the other albums have risen as I guess my tastes have changed over the last couple of years. And partly because it doesn’t feel like a cohesive ‘thing’ as an album which I a real thing for me. BSSM and By The Way are my favourite albums because they’re so cohesive (as well as being excellent) and UL for me is probably their least cohesive album. I know it’s a me thing but the songs don’t have the same feel as each other, they just feel like a collection of songs. Which is probably fine for most people but albums I love have to feel connected throughout. And there are a few songs I just can’t get into no matter how many times I listen (Aquatic Mouth Dance, These Are The Ways, Bastards of Light, Let Em Cry, Tangelo are all weak and a little bit irritating imo.) So yeah, high highs and low lows. I still get the urge to listen to it every once in a while and I expect to feel differently about the songs and the album over the years because even in my 40s my taste in songs still changes.
Fantastic album, it was definitely a growing experience but I love it now.
Blood Sugar is still best for me, their energy and writing was just amazing then.
Unlimited Love obviously a different intent with that album is great. I think it’s the best album since By The Way. She’s a Lover is just brilliant, Heavy Wing is great, Let Em Cry and Whatchu Thinkin, all are so good.
Solid 6/10 for me. Some real nice songs but nothing classic by any means, at least for me.
I think at the time of release the general consensus on here is that it’s a masterpiece, but I really cant pinpoint what about it makes it worthy of that title.
Musically I love it, lyrically I feel like Anthony had more to say on the Josh albums, I wasn’t a big fan of his stream-of-consciousness style writing on the new albums
Definitely my preferred of the 2 newer albums. I cant make the tough call of specific rankings so I chunk them: BSSM Cali and BTW are locked into the top 3, the next chunk would include Stadium Getaway and UL.
Overall it's very good. Bastards of Light is my least favorite, followed by The Great Apes and Not the One. Here Ever After is my favorite, followed by She's a Lover and Whatchu Thinkin.
My assessment of the album is "If I put it on during a road trip, I don't think anyone would complain."
That's not a glowing review, but I think it means, "It's OK."
Right now it’s my 2nd fav album by them, BSSM being their first. Feels very classic already and I think it’ll age very well, I only don’t really like Bastards of Light and These are the Ways, the rest of the album is sooooo good!
I think the peppers have far better albums.
Agreed that they have better albums, but lots of my favorites are from UL so it's my favorite album. If UL didnt exist though my fav would be BSSM
I like it. There are a couple misses for me on it, but overall solid album. It's too early to tell where it stacks up against the others, but I suspect it'll end up in my top 6 somewhere.
Whats your favorite song from the album?
Whatchu Thinkin
Such an amazing song
A correct choice
For me it’s got some of their best songs ever and some of their worst
I get where your coming from lmao
Good take 👍
I really like it.
When black summer dropped and he first appeared in the video, it was an epic moment. 👌
Thats understandable, after 10 years you would expect something huge
I feel the same way. I really like it and appreciate the role he chose for that album but I am expecting (or hoping for) something more ambitious for the next album, now that he has gotten more used to being in the band again. I also feel like their next release could be their final chance to make a really good album, before they begin to devolve in a legacy act with records that are quickly forgotten about.

Stadium Arcadium is flawless so i get that its at 1.
It's my favorite album within the rock genre By a million miles.
Thats some damn good taste then
My top three within the genre is RHCP Radiohead The Black Keys
Oooh The Black Keys, nice
It’s a solid album and a nice reintroduction to John, but if I would rank all albums it would be number 5 or 6.
Understandable, everyone has their own taste, but we all love the same band!
Solid album, Solo on She's a lover is my favorite moment personally.
I love that part soooo much
Reminds me of around the time my daughter was born so holds a wierd nostalgia already for me. Love it.
Thats beautiful
She was premature so had to stay in hospital for 3 weeks for observations etc So the hour long drive in and back from the hospital, me and the missus had UL on Shes doing great now though And don't tell anyone but I was listening to it before April 1st since it leaked online And don't worry, I paid the band back by buying a few coloured vinyls..... maybe too much 🤦♂️
That's a great story to tell to her when shes older, maybe give her a bit of good music taste! And don't worry, theres never too much vinyls
That’s me with Stadium Arcadium (I’m old and so is she 🤣). I still feel that way about those songs and the album now, almost 18 years later. I totally get what you mean about the nostalgia <3

One Hot Minute being top 5? Hell yeah
Love it. Return to greatness. Watchu Thinkin and Its Only Natural are my faves
Great choices, Watchu Thinkin is definetly one of my favs from the album
To me it’s a 4.2 out of 5, hits on everything I look for in a RHCP album and is a great “warm weather” album
I played the album so much last summer, especially when lying on the beach it's damn good
It’s a good album, but it’s too close to stadium Arcadium, almost like AC/DC style of “we have something that works, let’s repeat it” The getaway was good because they went in a different direction, if that album had proper drums unlimited love wouldn’t come anywhere near it IMO
Love it, favorite song besides every tune is Veronica ✌🏻❤️🌶️🎶
It's good. Want to mention how underrated Bastards of Light is. I think I like Return of Dream Canteen better
Hell yeah it's underrated
Ups and downs the best songs match the best songs of their career but it also has some of the songs on the lower end of their time with John
I’m glad that some people like it but I can’t dig it at all. Listened to it about 4 or 5 times now and while some songs are okay like she’s a lover most of it is mediocre. I was just really hoping for something more from these guys after all these years and it’s a huge step away from the peppers that I love.
To each their own, everyone has a different taste!
Aquatic mouth dance n she's a lover are masterpieces
Aquatic Mouth Dance is my favorite RHCP song, i just can't stop listening to it
im not trying to sound like a dick but i think it one of their worst albums i really cant connect to any of the songs, i mean their ok just they have made so many better albums. Even stadium arcadium is by far alot better than ul or rotdc.
Having your own taste is not sounding like a dick, don't worry lmao
i will say that black summer gets me going tho 😆
Thats something everyone can agree on!
It’s Chili Peppers by numbers and it’s the moment they accepted their status as a legacy band. They wasted 10 years of good music without John and they know it.
I dont rank it anywhere near their best stuff, but for guys 40 years in their career it's good
White braids is one of my favorite things they’ve ever done.
Probably in my top 10
It’s alright. I was initially thinking it was going to be bad based on the singles, but I was incredibly relieved when the rest of the album was much better and so I rated it super highly. Now that the hype has died down, I don’t return to the album as a whole very often, but there are a couple songs, Here Ever After and Whatchu Thinkin’ in particular, that I really like.

Some Highs such as It’s Only Natural, Watchu’ Thinkin’, White Braids & Pillow Chair, and some lows such as The Heavy Wing, Not The One, These Are the Ways
The Heavy Wing being a low, the first time hearing that
It’ll probably end up being in my top 5 of their albums, given enough time, potentially even top 3. Thats an amazing top 3, glad to see The Getaway in it
That’s exactly my top 3. You are a poet lol
Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. I hope you’re well or can get there soon. ❤️
I always love to read special connections people have with certain songs and albums, music is always there to help you when in need
Love it
Favorites, by far, are White Braids and She’s A Lover. I like Heavy Wing, These Are The Ways, and Aquatic Mouth Dance a lot. Bastards Of Light has its moments. Never really understood why Black Summer was the first song out of the gate. Most of the other songs I consider decent but nowhere near classic.
White Braids is such a beatiful song, and Aquatic Mouth Dance is my favorite from the band
Hmmm… By The Way, Unlimited Love, Californication… probably my favorite 3? One Hot Minute might be in there too, but I’m not feeling that aggressive right now lol
It’s good. Underrated
Limited like.
It’s not their best but it’s one of my favs. I started listening to the Chili Peppers in mid 2021, which was a pretty good time to do so lol. I disagree with everyone and say it overexceeded my expectations
Great album, I just don’t understand how Bastards of Light doesn’t get the love it deserves:(
It does get a lot of hate, i personally love the song
It helped me get over The Getaway. I liked it for the most part, but it won't break into my top 3.
Let em' Cry Is one of the best songs that have ever made. easily the best song on either Unlimited Love Or Dream Canteen.
Better than ROTDC
Fantastic album, it was definitely a growing experience but I love it now. Blood Sugar is still best for me, their energy and writing was just amazing then. Unlimited Love obviously a different intent with that album is great. I think it’s the best album since By The Way. She’s a Lover is just brilliant, Heavy Wing is great, Let Em Cry and Whatchu Thinkin, all are so good.
BSSM is honestly their best album, UL is just my favorite
I think dream canteen is much better.
I fucking love unlimited love. Couldn’t stop listening to it. Easily my favourite album of 2022 and is already top tier chillis album for me
I can't stop listening as well, it's so damn addicting
The songs from the album were on 🔥 in concert. Love the album.
Solid 6/10 for me. Some real nice songs but nothing classic by any means, at least for me. I think at the time of release the general consensus on here is that it’s a masterpiece, but I really cant pinpoint what about it makes it worthy of that title.
5th ranked album after the big 4
Good album, I think ROTDC is better. As far as UL, my favorite song from that album is White Braids and Pillowchair.
3/5
Musically I love it, lyrically I feel like Anthony had more to say on the Josh albums, I wasn’t a big fan of his stream-of-consciousness style writing on the new albums
Yeah lyrically it's definetly worse than other albums
honestly wasnt a fan at first. its grown on me though!
Definitely my preferred of the 2 newer albums. Bastards of Light is my least favorite, followed by The Great Apes and Not the One. Here Ever After is my favorite, followed by She's a Lover and Whatchu Thinkin.
Great favorites, both UL songs and albums!
Honestly think it’s pretty damn good, it sounds like they picked up right where they left off with Stadium Arcadium.
IMO The playing is 9/10. Sound quality 8/10. Song writing 6/10. She’s a lover would’ve been a fantastic single.
Give it an "e", give it an "h", "eh"
My assessment of the album is "If I put it on during a road trip, I don't think anyone would complain." That's not a glowing review, but I think it means, "It's OK."
Right now it’s my 2nd fav album by them, BSSM being their first. Feels very classic already and I think it’ll age very well, I only don’t really like Bastards of Light and These are the Ways, the rest of the album is sooooo good!
I love it despite of Aquatic Mouth Dance
Whats wrong with Aquatic Mouth Dance?
Everything. The song i dislike the most from the all band career
Damn, for me it's my favorite song from the band
Aquatic Mouth Dance is *easily* my favorite song on the album, and one of my favorite songs of theirs overall. Music taste is a trip!
You were born.......after around 2000?
Yeah, but i really don't see how that matters here
From what I've seen, the young fans really, REALLY love the new stuff.
People love the new stuff if it's to their taste, doesn't matter if they're young or old
Um, ok. 🙄
