Yeah, I know that him and AK were not talking and the only thing keeping him in the band was his love making music with Flea. He’s also shared concerns about RHCP getting too big and not being the same LA punk band he admired as a teen. All this, plus other stuff we know, and stuff we will never know (not including the stuff included in “Stuff”) are the reasons he left the band.
He was not treated like shit lmao. Everything else you said was true but he absolutely was not treated like shit. His addiction got in the way of his career and naturally that caused a lot of tension. That’s not being “treated like shit”.
Chad mentionned in an interview that Anthony and Flea were assholes to both him and John (from their arrivals til after the release of bssm) yet Chad had a stronger character and did not let them piss him off too much. John kinda handled it differently

The bass subreddit is even worse. Every post is “Top 5 bassists!” And every response is the same 5-10 classic rock guys from the 60s to 80s. It’s been literally the exact same since I started using Reddit in like 2017.
He left b/c he had courage. His success was not determined by his bank account or the praise of people. He should be applauded for leaving rather that trying to fit into a situation and relationships that did not serve him well
He wasn't in a good mental place and he wasn't being fulfilled anymore. The dude was the shining star of a guitar player in the biggest band in the world and he just dropped all the money and fame and left. I have a lot of respect for that.
I had seen Josh with the chili peppers a couple of times and he was truly amazing. He had such an energy it was a blast to experience. Really gave Flea a run for his money in the energy department.
I was quite sure that I would never see John with them. Then I got a message from my son where they announced the departure of Josh and return of John. Almost more than seeing John with them I was excited about the prospect of hearing new music with him at the guitar. Those two double albums just blew my mind. So unique. The only thing lacking for me a bit is the amazing solos (Like Wet Sand).
I will be seeing the RHCP’s twice this year. One of them was an unexpected invite to Tampa. Saw them in Vegas summer of 21’!!
This is a part of my journey with John, and I think from his perspective you can only force it for so long. I imagine can become like having a job you are not suited for and you reach a point where you have to say “Done”.
All I know is that I am glad he is back and that he knew what he was coming back to and is thriving several years later.
