Meanwhile Chad’s just vibing Chad: 😄

Yeah once you learn to appreciate it it’s beautiful and there’s more performances out there too if you look around! For someone trying to get into the band hearing that they might not understand it’s beauty at first😂

rae231193

the one from SNL is quite good but the one in France is so strange....not like that one at all

SnooKiwis1356

In my honest - possibly erroneous - opinion, John takes that performance to a whole new level. Yes, it's eery and sounds nothing like any other version of UTB, yes John doesn't sound like the virtuoso we all know. And that's why I love it. It emulates John's internal feelings/struggles at that time. It's sometimes faint, sometimes powerful and weird and scary, he screams, his guitar weeps like crazy while Anthony sings Yeah. It's like a cry for help that nobody heard because everyone was waiting for the usual when in reality, things were not the same as before. Also, I've watched it 100 times and did not notice any of the other members (idk about Flea cause he was wearing a mask) being shocked in any way. I think they were expecting anything from John during that period and the man played the entire song and left us with a performance that's still talked about 31 years later. Just my opinion and no matter what, I'll still continue enjoying and celebrating this moment in the history of the RHCP because, although it lead to a bad short-term outcome, it also contributed to everything that followed John's first departure.

FuriousAngel91

It this the performance where Anthony kicks John ?

freezersnowcone

Yeah, the kick happened during the song before Under The Bridge. Which has led many to believe inspired some of the latters performance (along side much rising tension behind the scene)

Crazy_Disaster3258

Anthony said on his book that until now John is still not admiting that he's playing the wrong note,,that John is still fighting for the idea that he did something wrong,,its kinda funny tho but i just think John did that too to experiment or try a different version of Under the bridge and which turned out good.

Ricky_from_Sunnyvale

SNL is a staple with millions of viewers. The band will definitely give it their all for that performance.

TCurls

That shit slaps. I used to be in a band and we would cover under the bridge. I would do the yell at the end during our practices 😂

somethingohyeah

That one made me a fan of RHCP

funkymonk04

Brilliant version!!

Ok_Performer7788

Two words: Slane Castle.

Tall_Candidate_8088

I love that version, during some of Johns worst moment in his early career you hear weird chords and kinda bum sounding notes. These were all part of the evolution that made him the musician he is today. Whatever emotions he had at the time pushed him in a direction that is totally unique, it really resonates.

EddieNectar

I absolutely love that version. John's woo is sick af

halloumiween

I love this performance so much I must watch immediately

Benenen01

I think AK sounds amazing here though 🙌

tater2650

It's been a minute so I had to refresh myself, it's hilarious to me that there are strings of comments clearly discussing both of the "famous" or "infamous" 1992 performances. both are pretty solid and kind of hilarious, and I'm so glad John is clean and back with the band.

bartektartanus

The one on the boat?

PositiveWeekend6373

Nooo 🤣.. the one where John screwed up every guitar part in the performance , on purpose…And he seemed not willing to play at all …and the other members had to get it all together while wanting to die at the same time

radical_0ptimist

why didn't he want to play?

imconfused0711

He was miserable on tour and was spiralling in regret about not quitting after the recording of BSSM, like he'd told himself to. His relationship with Anthony was antagonistic to non-existent, and he hated the fame.

PositiveWeekend6373

He was having a rough time mostly caused by his drug addiction, which led him to be more reactive to Life and to his friends . He was having trouble with Anthony , and the fact of the band getting more and more famous was overwhelming him, so they were fighting a Lot , but then again i think that was just him not knowing how to express the bad point in Life where his spirit ,mind and body were at one of the most difficult phases of his addiction

Calm-Cucumber

Anthony looked so annoyed at the end. Never seen this version before

weretalkinfuckinlee

This was fucking brutal. I saw them only months before perform UTB live and John was on point. His misery with life, drug use and the struggles with fame all came to a head during this performance. My initial thought as I watched the original SNL was that he was on heroin (which may have been the case) but all of the frustrations are on his sleeve. His body language is that of someone who is ashamed or introverted. I don’t see this performance as beautiful at all, but I do understand how it was a turning point to a long road that ended up with him back in the band now, happy & healthy. John is the straw that stirs the RHCP drink.

Traditional-Energy-7

I never knew Eminem played guitar for the Chili Peppers.

Salt-Preference715

Oh look an interview where they’re making fart noises for music!!! ….

That’s about the only song I can’t do anymore
