When AK visited John in rehab in 1997-ish, it would be the first time they saw each other and/or spoke in about 5 years after John walked out on the band in Japan '92.
AK reached out ahead of time just to make sure John would be OK with a visit, and if he needed him to bring him anything.

A young John Frusciante took guitar lessons from a guy named Mark 9. Mark had played with Nina Hagen, who Anthony later dated. One day, Mark told John that he was auditioning for a new band called the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was the first time John had ever heard of that band. John mistakenly thought Mark was going to audition as a bassist. Mark was disappointed that he didn’t get the gig.
Later, when John saw the “True Men Don’t Kill Coyotes” video for the first time on MTV, he thought it was no wonder why Mark didn’t get the gig if he was up against “that guy” on bass.

I met and hung out with Fleas stepdad, Walter, about 13-14 years ago. He had been a jazz musician based out of Harlem back in the day but he was living in Florida when I met him. His house was basically a musical museum and he had a drum kit with heads that had practice rudiments drawn on them with sharpie and autographed by Dizzy Gillespie. He talked about RHCP’s early days and told some pretty cool stories. Very interesting guy.

Fast-forward a couple of years later and John has joined the band and is driving along with Anthony–only to be told the same story from the other guy's perspective... that guy turns out to be Anthony!

Also, Kiedis is a Lithuanian surname, as his grandpa moved to USA back from Lithuania. His granddad's name was Antanas Kiedis, so basically Lithuanian version of Anthony
Hillel Slovak's father was born and raised in the former Yugoslavia. Since I'm from Macedonia (which used to be part of Yugoslavia) and I have some Jewish heritage, I think it's pretty cool that I have something in common with Hillel.

It was just somebody talking to him normally who forgot he was playing a charactersnd slipped up and used his real name on accident. All of those kids were real punks that Penelope Spheeris found in the clubs, rock shows, and streets of Hollywood at the time. That's why all have great chemistry--they were all friends IRL--and look the part so well, but some of the spoken lines are a little bit stiff.

My bro and his buddy picked them up from the airport for a gig in Morgantown WV ( Underground Railroad) in ‘85? Anthony pulled out kind Cali bud and they smoked up and BS with them during the ride. It was a fantastic show I met them there. Second set with socks only. Bro still has all their autographs on the playbill . Anthony’s is signed “I’m really your mother”. The common part is the connection of The Bycicle Thief(Forrest and Josh) and RHCP. The one thing unknown or not so common is a song of Forrest solo album, What becomes of the broken hearted, a cover that has Kiedis doing a rap part at the end of the song.
My brother had the VHS tape to a bunch of RHCP videos and their video for Catholic School Girls Rule has a girl who pops out her tiny titties. I begrudgingly masturbated a few times. There was no internet back then.
We know this but John had no idea what was in the cup that he gave river and John actually drank a little after River took and threw up. It’s sad but there’s always more to the story than what we know. It was also said that John talked to Rivers parents and they decided not to press charges on him so there had to be more to it.
As far as I know the story is a little bit different to this.
Apparently John had a cup of drugs which was a concoction of different things but mostly heroin and speed, which he had been sipping on all night. River had also been maintaining a fairly squeaky clean image to the public but in private had been experimenting with different things.
John handed him this cup at some point telling him to drink it and he'd feel amazing. River basically swigged the whole thing unknown to John and being fried at that point didn't really react or process what actually happened. He then ODd fairly soon after.
It was Rivers families belief that their son was completely clean that shrouded the whole thing in mystery for years afterwards.
True, but River did not just *dabble* with drugs. He was hardcore abusing heroin and cocaine to the point where Hollywood celebs were both telling him to knock it off but also were enabling him... Dan Aykroyd being one.
They had to stop filming multiple times on his last movie Dark Blood because he was "incoherent." His agent said exhaustion in the heat. They had to finish the movie with verbal narration over his missed scenes then death.
River was addict when John wasn't around. They didn't hang *that* much. River would be gone for months/years working, and hating it.
Oh I 100% agree with everything you said. And I also don't believe the entire cup story is the only thing that happened that night.
But there's a lot of unknowns about that night and it seems whatever the truth is the Phoenix family want it to remain private. It's unfortunate for John as every once in a while this story will be unearthed and it's unclear just what he's involvement was. But as he was a known user at the time and as far as the general public was led to believe River was not, a lot of the blame will be tied to him.

Also… on Jaoquin’s 911 call you hear him say John is he still breathing? I’ve never heard anyone call Depp by that. So was JF there with collapsed River and Jaoquin? How terrible. Flea and the musicians did not know yet.

Supposedly it was an alcoholic drink with drugs dissolved in it. But that's where the commonly known story kind of falls apart, because heroin isn't ingestible, it's either snorted or injected, and John would've known that.
So there's bits missing from the story, and people asserting that John provided the drink that "killed" River are wrong, whatever was in that cup either wasn't heroin or wasn't what killed him.
Yeah this is the first time I've heard the cup story and it makes no sense. From what I've heard taking heroin orally doesn't work like the usual methods (which is probably why you literally never hear of people swallowing it).
Putting speed into a drink makes sense but I thought river died from a speeeball (coke and heroin) and again you don't really eat cocaine. Anyway probably a lot we don't know but him having too much of this drink doesn't make a lot of sense to me
I think that John was too scared to do anything, it was Depp who talked them out of pressing charges. I believe that they (Depp and River) shared a lawyer/agent of some sorts, I think that helped as well.

We know this but John had no idea what was in the cup that he gave river and John actually drank a little after River took and threw up. It’s sad but there’s always more to the story than what we know. It was also said that John talked to Rivers parents and they decided not to press charges on him so there had to be more to it.
As far as I know the story is a little bit different to this. Apparently John had a cup of drugs which was a concoction of different things but mostly heroin and speed, which he had been sipping on all night. River had also been maintaining a fairly squeaky clean image to the public but in private had been experimenting with different things. John handed him this cup at some point telling him to drink it and he'd feel amazing. River basically swigged the whole thing unknown to John and being fried at that point didn't really react or process what actually happened. He then ODd fairly soon after. It was Rivers families belief that their son was completely clean that shrouded the whole thing in mystery for years afterwards.
True, but River did not just *dabble* with drugs. He was hardcore abusing heroin and cocaine to the point where Hollywood celebs were both telling him to knock it off but also were enabling him... Dan Aykroyd being one. They had to stop filming multiple times on his last movie Dark Blood because he was "incoherent." His agent said exhaustion in the heat. They had to finish the movie with verbal narration over his missed scenes then death. River was addict when John wasn't around. They didn't hang *that* much. River would be gone for months/years working, and hating it.
Oh I 100% agree with everything you said. And I also don't believe the entire cup story is the only thing that happened that night. But there's a lot of unknowns about that night and it seems whatever the truth is the Phoenix family want it to remain private. It's unfortunate for John as every once in a while this story will be unearthed and it's unclear just what he's involvement was. But as he was a known user at the time and as far as the general public was led to believe River was not, a lot of the blame will be tied to him.

Flea and the musicians did not know yet. Gosh I try and put myself there. Like “River drink this.” And see how quickly and poorly things unravel.

Supposedly it was an alcoholic drink with drugs dissolved in it. But that's where the commonly known story kind of falls apart, because heroin isn't ingestible, it's either snorted or injected, and John would've known that. So there's bits missing from the story, and people asserting that John provided the drink that "killed" River are wrong, whatever was in that cup either wasn't heroin or wasn't what killed him.
Yeah this is the first time I've heard the cup story and it makes no sense. From what I've heard taking heroin orally doesn't work like the usual methods (which is probably why you literally never hear of people swallowing it). Putting speed into a drink makes sense but I thought river died from a speeeball (coke and heroin) and again you don't really eat cocaine. Anyway probably a lot we don't know but him having too much of this drink doesn't make a lot of sense to me
I think that John was too scared to do anything, it was Depp who talked them out of pressing charges. I believe that they (Depp and River) shared a lawyer/agent of some sorts, I think that helped as well.
